I think it may be L Mac now.
I’ve been a Jy fan (for the handover) the whole past two years, but perhaps let LDU & him focus on their games & be the vice captains for now.

Larkey, Will Phillips, JHF & Bull perhaps other leadership group players (not all next year of course).

All he has to do is work on his 20-45 meter kicking. That’s it. He knows that. We know that. The NMFC knows that. Make things easier for all of us, Jy. We’ll shut up or at least I will, if you just do that this pre-season. It’s so simple. You got this 👍

At the moment based on that alone there are other contenders with bows to their strings that can add leadership qualities

No one gives a feck, we just wana win games of football, plus after the 5 years we've had under JZ anything will be an improvement.
Bullshit that no one cares.

If/when Jy is named captain there will be posters that melt the f*** down because it isn't LDU.

Like there is some weird either or situation happening and that we don't have both or that they are in some way competitors rather than teammates.

Seems like you care though.

LDU is the better player already and with far more upside, a captain doesn't have to be the best player, we all know this shit.
Clarko had Vandenberg as captain if I recall correctly and Stratton too.

Personally i'd go with Lmac and he's a long way off our best player, but once again don't give a feck.

It'll be because of his decision making and bad kicking. It deflates the whole team. Not what you want from a captain and not ideal for winning games of football.

I said that it was bullshit that no one cared.

I am invested in the side. I think that Jy has built into being a leader over many years and that LDU is likely to do the same but that they are at different points in terms of leadership journey.

the only thing that is clear is that it needs to change.

Lol look at the post directly after yours. Apparently kicking is a reason for the appointing of a captain.

The most exciting thing this year was the last 5 weeks where the synergy between the both them them was allowed to grow.
Personally i'd go with Lmac and he's a long way off our best player, but once again don't give a feck.

LMac getting it would make those that will meltdown if Jy gets it turn them into molten cheese.

A lot depends on who wants it.

Cunners should have been captain of the club for some time but it isn't something he wanted. He is probably the most respected person on our list and most suited to be captain, he just doesn't like the media work so it is not really doable.

You don't need to be captain to be a leader, you want to see people show the qualities. I don't really see enough from the younger group in terms of their ability to organise the troops in the heat of battle.

I think something we need to do is teach players what it means to be a leader, whomever is the captain in the short-term isn't going to mean a whole lot to the side on the field. You need to be a whole more than a good player to be a good captain.

Carey was a campaigner but he was a good captain because when shit hit the fan he had the ability to move anywhere on the park and take charge, he inspired those around him to lift when the chips were down. Swallow had similar traits without being a superstar, he was a great player but he was also a tough and hard at it player and he was able to guide a mediocre team on paper to be a really competitive team.

With the exception of Boomer, that's been our problem for more than 20 years.

Your Captain doesn't need to be your best player, but he needs to be damn close. So big pass for me on McDonald.

No coincidence that Barassi and Pagan preferred the likes of Davis, Greig, Schimmelbusch, Carey and Stevens.

Jy odds on to get it but not convinced.

LDU is my preference as leads by example but it's not a big issue.

As long as change made and Jack nowhere near "leading" (to spoons) I'll support the decision entirely.
