I've heard that the McKay rumours were overblown. Apparently our interest cooled pretty much as soon as we found out how much it was going to cost.

We can't even be sure there was any substance to the other rumours. There's been a few players we've been linked to that we immediately quashed. A lot of it is just journalists seeing list holes and thinking "well that makes sense".

Generally doesn't seem like there's many big name players on the move and that's probablu why someone like McKay has the offers in front of him that he does - though I still think he could have been a handy asset for us.

Rather we just keep the money and restructure contracts so we can have another crack next year rather than overpaying for someone out of desperation.

The Naughton one I've got 2 diff sources and those amounts were about right, this was about 3 months ago.

ITT: Heeney, is taking $800,000,000 of the salary cap.

Also ITT: We're cashed up to our eyeballs and nobody wants to come.
Yeah, but imagine if we let him go. We'd be able to sign every single A-grader in the comp.

Even with Naughton, we at least forced the Bulldogs to pay up.

I don't think we can really treat missing out on him as a failure given what the Bulldogs had to pay, and given he never really expressed an interest in leaving.

We're going to land a million dollar player who has the potential to transform our entire midfield and people will find a way to be disappointed in our offseason.
Exactly.

Grundy is coming, Midfield will get better without still being A+ and defence will be again solid. We will improve. That improvement should be enough with luck and consistency from our top liners to be top 4. From there we are a chance. You don't have to be laiden with Superstars on every line to win the thing. Pies certainly were not. They have players on every line that turn up week in week out and turn up and buy in to a plan. We are out there shopping and thats good but we ain't buying no flag by wasting money on a Bum like Naughton. Let him stay at the tin rattlers. Well suited.

Still I would like more reinforcement in that area.

Melican, Tommy and Rampe all missed significant amount of games this season.

And what they can spend on other players going forward has been reduced because we threatened to sign them. Win.
Next few seasons they have less cap to spend.
We like our job keeping the bastards honest.

Former AA ruck, under 30, big upgrade on current stocks

Mid who played 25, 22 and 18 games in a flag side, and 2 subsequent Top 4 sides

And possibly KPD depth, former flag winner and despite past injuries, played a full year, one of the WAFLs best KPDs, just had a good defence to break into at senior level.

No-one wants to come, it's a disaster apparently. Keeping in mind that zero FA or trade periods are open yet.
