Sorry if this was posted somewhere already, just catching up. Was reading on another forum that Dougal Howard looks to be on his way to us, not sure how legit it is, just thought I'd pass it on.

Last I heard was that he had no intention of leaving Moorabbin.

My best (maybe hopeful) guess for the Stephens trade is:

We give: Stephens & future second
We get: Future end of 1st round
Yeah had thought of that too. It's probably more likely than my options, but I'd really prefer draft upgrades this year. Especially in the KPD area we'd want to grab the best possible option, with that extra year of development before Rampe goes, and we face potential culls of some of Melican, Francis, Arnold, Edwards.

While I agree with what you said. It didn't stop Heeney from leveraging a 1mill offer from North to boost the contract we were offering.

So imo, local or not, everyone has their price.

In saying that, I have no idea what he's actually on. So that comes into play. IMO, the locals should be willing to take slight unders given they were developed by the academy and get to stay in their home state.

Loyalty is a two way street and should be shown by both club and player.
I agree with this. I think it is fine for players to seek market value, but when they try to extract every last cent possible by threatening to leave and leaking details to the media, they are ultimately taking money from their team mates’ back pockets or hurting their team mates’ chances of staying together / winning a flag.

Something are worth more than money, especially when you are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play the game you love for the club you grew up supporting.

Nothing stopping us from on-trading the future end of first. I think that it is more likely that they trade those picks than keep them.

~ 9 hours to Free Agency Period and we have 616 pages for hypotheticals!!
:rolleyes:o_O:oops:

F**k this.. Lets be ruthless
Stephens to North for a future end of 1st round pick
Grundy to Swans for an early 3rd rounder. If they want more, then they can pay part of his salary.
Dow to Swans for our late 3rd rounder.. If he choses Saints and SOS wants to take him via the PSD, lets get Dow for free 1 pick before St Kilda in the PSD

so Swan get..
Jordan & Hamling via free agency
Grundy & Dow via trades
A future p19
and are left with p11, 23, 31

trade p23 + 31 + future 3rd <to Port for> p44 + Future 1st (this pick swap has been suggested in the media)

Swans take p11 to the draft.. Swans match bid on cleary with p44
Swans hold future 1st, 2nd, 4th(Swans) + future 1st(Port) + future p19(north) and can be very busy next year.. (and we will crack the 1000 pages in this thread)

ps.. Oliver - If Melbourne want him gone, lets offer them a 2nd rounder if they pay $300k of his salary .. Grundy/Pies style.

Let's offer the dogs a 2nd rounder for Bont

Or...

North just takes Stephens in the PSD and we get nothing for being "ruthless"

If Dow wants Saints or is open to either, then they could just offer more in a trade than Pick 50, no PSD necessary, and more likely if we get "ruthless" offering just that

North have been down the bottom so long yet have not used the PSD once even as a threat. I remember when they traded for Callum Coleman-Jones who was out of contract. PSD was an option then but they basically gave a future 2nd rounder.

pick 19. Ccj insisted he would not go via the PSD. And wanted the Tigers to be compensated.

North requested and got a bunch of undeserved draft picks, I'm not sure they're the most reasonable club right now. I certainly wouldn't provoke them by saying future 1st or nothing, because they might pick the latter.

Ive got your replies noted in my little BF book..
If either of you ever use the phrase "Swans get bent over when it comes to trades" .. Watch out!

My post was only half serious, but it kind of pisses me off when people suggest we pay more for Grundy than the AFL journos.. or a happy to accept a late crap pick for Stephens. I reckon Stephens will play 200 games for North, and play them well.. and Grundy is worth less than he was 12 months ago, so we should certainly pay less than the Dees did.
