Moving from Bluemours thread...

My new favourite from the Eagles board

"Eagles get pick 2 & 23
Give Barass & 19."

If a list manager agreed to that they deserve to be sacked on the spot

I just hope the weagles work out what they're doing early in trade week. What they do with pick 1 will have a huge say in everything else that happens.

There's a bunch of WA boys that would be of interest - Curtin, Tholstrup, Edwards, Hall, Hardeman at the top of the pile, but maybe another dozen with chances of being drafted. Temptation must be there to do a massive clean-out and just load up with local talent.

Current draft hand: 1, 19, 36, 38, 55, 57, 75.

Anyone with draft value over age say 24 should be considered for trade - even if it's just low picks for points that could then be on-traded to say the Suns. Barass, Kelly, Sheed, Darling, Gaff, Ryan, Hunt, Duggan, Yeo, McGovern, Cripps, Petrucelle, SPS, Shuey, Witherden.

There'll be a few others that won't get a new contract, and expect Hurn at least to retire.

Will prob also ask the AFL for assistance based on the last two years. Doubt they'll get much if anything, but maybe a second round pick.

If they can then turn pick 1 into maybe 3 first-round picks, it'd give them a very strong hand. Or they could just say 'stuff it we're taking Reid'.

Any trade of Pick 1 depends more on where other teams finish. GWS after last night have picks 8&9, a lot different to a couple of weeks ago having 4&5. If they get band 1 for Himmelberg they'd have 8,9,10.

I'm of the opinion that doesnt get it done. Points wise absolutely, but Eagles are only going to give up Reid if they can get Curtin. Right now he looks a locked top 5 pick which makes it very hard for them to get back in there if GWS and Richmond finish around where they are or higher.

Melbourne is a smokey if Freo capitulate the last 3rd of this year. Could hand Melbourne a top 4 pick to go with maybe 13-15 and a F1. Reckon thats more likely to get it done as it gives WCE the highest chance of getting Curtin

A bored exercise for you all...

Imagining we had 3 picks inside 30 at roughly 5,12,25

If you had to pick 1 player from each of these three groups to make up a trio of picks for us who would you choose? Feel free to add any others you're interested in that I haven't listed. Just have who I think will be around that mark.

<<< Pick 5 >>>
Nate Caddy (Charlie Curnow)
Daniel Curtin (Steven May)
Colby Mckercher (Zach Merrett but faster)
Nick Watson (Eddie Betts/Tom Papley)
Ryley Sanders (JHF with less explosiveness)
Zane Duursma (Degoey/Fritsch)

<<< Pick 12 >>>
Connor O'Sullivan (Weitering)
Darcy Wilson (Jack Crisp/Josh Daicos)
Mitchell Edwards (Tim English)
Jack Delean (Cody Weightman)
Koltyn Tholstrup (Cam Zurhaar)
Nathan Philactides (Ed Richards)

<<< Pick 25 >>>
AshtonMoir (Isaac Heeney/Marshmallow)
Will Patton (Tom Stewart)
Jack Callinan (Brad Close)
Luamon Lual (Isaac Quaynor)
Harry Demattia (Rory Laird)
Ollie Murphy (Sam Taylor)

I've tried to give as close to a player comparison as I can. Obviously, some aren't like for likes but they are the closest I could think of.

Moir looks okay, another Heeney would be useful, but who's Marshmallow?

He's Heeney crossed with a Marshmallow, allergic to the contest
Really liked him (Moir) from the limited vision last year. Silky skills either side of the body. But after watching him a couple of times this year, he's gone backwards in a real hurry. Doesn't want the ball. Seems hurried when he has it. Maybe he's playing possum for a SA club to draft him, but if that's the case, I wouldn't want him anyway.

At pick 5 you have a real variety of types listed.
It really depends if we see a particular type as a priority.

They always say that with an early pick you just take the best player. Problem is it can be hard to see who is clearly the best.

The player that stands out to me is mckercher. He just turns up week in week out and provides so much run. Knocks on his disposal but l thought it looked ok in the highlights l saw. In terms of style he does look like a taller faster Zac Merrett. When just looking at him through the lense of his constant run, it makes me think of him as a left footed Sam Walsh.

I still want us to add run to the team. One of cottrell and Ed Curnow seems to be an automatic selection because of there running ability. There are also concerns around Kennedy and Hewitts run and speed. Maybe Austin will think that hollands and binns will fill those holes and we can look at curtain and caddy.

I’m a little cool on Watson at 5. Maybe a little early for me.

Will be interesting.

Watson could be available at gold coasts pick at 7-8 if we can get our hands on it. A haul of Mckercher and Watson would be exciting to say the least.

If we end up completely doing the wrong thing and winning too many games the remainder of the season, I'm looking at players who may be available around pick 10ish.

Bottom 6 we could end up with one of Watson, Caddy, Curtin, McKercher, Duursma or Sanders - any of these would be pretty handy - but the group below these could potentially be one of many.

One who could potentially be in the mix is Joel Freijah...had a quiet game in the last Vic Country match, but a month or so ago, had a lazy 26 possessions, 7 inside 50's, and 6 goals in a match against the Dandenong Stingrays (which they actually lost). From what I've seen of him, looks a combo of Pendlebury and the Bont - possibly with a bit more of a burst of speed. 191cm, 86kg, so a good size - an inside/outside mid.

Despite the stats, he still looks a bit raw. which is pretty scary....the type who's floor is high, and ceiling could be absolutely anything. I'll be on Freijah watch in tomorrow's game.

Pretty confident he'll be more around the 20 mark than 10. In my opinion he doesn't have the speed to play wing to a high end at AFL level and his inside game is suspect. Not too many wings in the league push forward as well as he does but I feel that would be largely ineffectual vs the quality zone coverage in the AFL. But each to their own, I don't like Moir where as others really rate him too.

And plus, if we lose tomorrow, I reckon we're locked for bottom 5. We have a very difficult month ahead of ourselves and I wouldn't be surprised if we put players in for some surgeries early if we drop the next few. Would be a total waste in my opinion if we went guns blazing vs the Suns and Hawks if it meant our picks going to be 3 higher if we win. Freo and Richmond are at least fighting to keep their picks from looking bad from their trades for Jackson and Hopper.

Kicking skills are very good from vm handball skills are abysmal on both sides, interesting to see who can still run and execute in the final quarter. If TDK goes and Pittonet remains “durable’, looking for a ruckman to come thru with HOK.

I really like the look of Windsor. Seems to have a great athletic profile with speed, endurance and strength. Reads the play well, makes good decisions, uses the ball well.

Just looks like a player who could comfortably do the same things at the higher level.

He definitely has some AFL traits with his speed and penetration but he tends to be rather inconsistent with his kicking and at times goes missing for large periods of games.

Definitely could be a player at the next level though

His kicking was beautiful here in the windy conditions today.

Yeah he was very good today. Seems to be more a Jack Martin type of inconsistent where its a week to week proposition rather in game inconsistencies. Not really sure how that works if I'm honest but some games he looks a fantastic player and others he looks pretty ordinary

Vic Country v Allies straight after this game but only on AFL.com not Fox/Kayo. Should be a cracking game - Harley, Duursma, Walter, McKercher, Wilson, Rogers, OSullivan, Archer Reid, Sanders, Ethan Read - I think I’d prefer to watch that than the Cats v Roos game.

Genuinely much more entertaining footy to watch than anything I’ve seen from Carlton this year. Much more instinctive footy and a lot of highly skilled players with permission to take the game on.
