Pick 9 GWS: Nate Caddy
GWS select Nate Caddy.

Really wanted Sanders to fall to this pick so he could be understudy to Ward but then was in two minds where to go after he was off the board. (and knowing Read would be matched)

Caddy is picked because of the potential he shows in being a burst midfield type from centre bounces. If that does not eventuate he should still be a great complement to Cadman in 2-3 years once they both fill out.

Thought I did, but now done

If you threadmark the picks and trades as they come in it’s probably easier

I'm okay with doing threadmarks for picks.

If it's a trade featuring a shits ton of picks being swapped, I get a bit lost.

When I do the draft order updates during trade period, for the complex ones I usually have the ins and outs for each club on separate lines, and then go through each step of the trade one at a time and put the picks and players for each step against both an in and an out. Then double check that each ‘in’ is also ‘out’ of another club, and vice versa. I don’t update the draft orders until it all lines up, especially when there is confusion about what actually happened with clubs misreporting what they traded. Seems to be the most idiot proof way of avoiding mistakes, though they still happen sometimes…

We will have to start adjusting draft picks because of the bids as well soon.
good luck 🤣

if I were you I'd just match with the next pick if it's within 20%/197 points, or the next 2 picks if it's more than that, and call it a day. dw about the position of the last few picks if they shuffle a bit. They probably won't get used anyway.

Pick 2 bid match is 2013.6 so picks 24 (756), 26 (729) and 27 (703) and gain a surplus of 174.4 points.

Pick 8 bid match is 1240.8 so picks 30 (629), 34 (542) and 36 (502) taking the surplus to 606.6

Pick 10 Geelong: Connor O'Sullivan.
Pick 10 - Connor O'Sullivan

With Sanders gone O'Sullivan is a pretty easy pick here. Exceptional athlete with a really good feel for the game, physically built enough to be playing consistently from year two onwards. I think the real test for him is if he can make it as a CHF. If not will be a fine defender to pair with SDK.

Does the surplus build up or does it go to a new pick straight away.

For example, do they lose 24, 26 and 27 and gain a new pick at #58 (170 points)

Or does it build up and they lose 30, 34 and 36 and would get the 31 (606 points) or use the 606 against the Rogers bid when it comes?

I think you build it as surplus' and deficits go into next year.

Okay.

So the 606 will move into Rogers bid and anything leftover gets put into next year? I knew deficits go into next year but do Surplus go as well.

I guess I wonder then if they had 174 surplus after the Walters bid would they only need to use 30 and 34 plus the 174 surplus for the Read bid?

Pick 11 match is 1063.2 points, match with 44 (362), 46 (331), 48 (302) and 49 (287) and gain a 218.8 point surplus

You only get a surplus on excess points when a first round pick is used to match. Later round picks are demoted with the remaining points determining the new position in the draft order.

Deficits can carry over if you run out of picks up to a value of the full points allocation of a premiership team before priority picks/compensation etc.

Pick 12 Essendon: Darcy Wilson.
Pick 12 Darcy Wilson 186cm 74kg Midfield/ Forward Murray Bushrangers

I have been looking at a lot of vision and I really like this bloke and have him a bit higher than here.
Wilson tested outstandingly at the combine and has a combination of speed and endurance which we severely lack.
Darcy will begin his career as a high half forward in the Jamie Cripps mould who will work high up and then sprint forward to utilise his speed and motor. If Darcy is to become special which he can he will be able to use his speed in the midfield to be a break the lines sort of player In the Patrick Dangerfield mould.
Darcy is a nice kick, has displayed the ability to kick goals and shown the ability to accumulate possessions.
my question mark was his competitiveness and the game that hosed down my fears was Murray’s finals loss to GWVR. He copped a heap of attention all day, showed some anger and fight and kicked some goals late in the game.
Darcy is going to have a magnificent physique in time as he has muscular arms and has a nice frame. He also does the work having put on some weight this year.

Why Darcy?

Wilson, Collard, Tholstrup, edwards and Leake were in my ball park.
I did not consider Windsor because he has only showed the ability to play wing and duursma trade lessened the need there. I passed on Leake only because I think adding McKay and having redman, McGrath, Ridley, Baldwin, laverde, Kelly, hind, Reid, Cox and possibly a Davey or Durham meant we are strong enough for now. Edwards has a lot of upside but we need to get games into Caldwell, Hobbs, tsatsas etc.
tholstrup may lack a touch of class but I like his competitiveness and his ability to get involved forward of the ball.
it came down to collard or Wilson. If I knew collard could definitely settle in Melbourne and is absolutely committed to hard work I think I would have chosen him but Darcy just ticked a box too many for mine.

I also considered bidding on McCabe but hawthorn did us a solid with d’ambrossio so left that alone

gresham langford wilson
stringer wright perkins- would be quite an athletic forward 6 that perhaps lacks a bit in the air

So the sun's will get no surplus at all on the night? They just get a new pick worth the leftover points from their picks used?

Yep, or more specifically the pick they use to match moves up and becomes the matching pick, and then as each pick is drained of points they move to the back of the draft with the half-used pick being shuffled back in the order as appropriate.

The ones that end up at the back of the draft are arranged back into rounds, so they will be in reverse ladder order with any other picks at that point in the draft.

Keeping in the spirit of kinnear beatson
sydney nominate Jake rogers
a very gifted footballer in the ilk of Errol gulden
