so, are we going to have enough mid rookies this year to start 4 on field?

And what 200k rookies are we expecting to get a game rd 1 in any line?

Wilmot and Allison probably best bets down back. Maybe Arlo Draper.
Johnson maybe in mids.
Rucks I don’t see any with much hope
Forwards Drury, Pedlar ($213k).

Very tough.

Allison? never heard of her

Ruck bench will have to be a throwaway DPP this year.

Outside the '200k'ers i feel like theres a lot of good mid rookies, but not sure how many will be rd 1 startes which makes it hard.

Ashcroft and Phillips look bankable (and will throw big spanners in the works if they arent) but then the group of Hollands, MacKenzie, Phillipou, GInbey, Hewett, Wagner, Chesser, Sinn, all have good prospects, but will we get enough of them in rd 1 is the concern.

Of the eagles draftees I think hewett and ginbey most likely early. Chesser likely comes through WAFL I’d imagine

Allison Saints KPP won time trial I believe. He’s D/F.

Weddle, Ginbey and Wagner in defence seem good chances although Wagner got injured yesterday I believe.

Definitely starting Ashcroft and Phillips in mids and then who knows beyond that. I imagine Mackenzie plays early who I’ve got as my third rook for time being. Hewett the other and then who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

Add Humphrey and Sheezel to Phillipou up forward. Not convinced on Sheezel’s scoring but I’d imagine he’s a lock to play each week.

With rookies, is it the pure sum of how much more they average than their price, or is it percentage? Like... if for instance a player is priced at 30 points per game but averages 60, do they increase quicker than a player who is priced at 40 but averages 70? One averages double their baseline score, the other doesn't.

Rookies, whether priced at 30 or 40 will proportionately increase quicker than higher priced players .....the Premo's because of a higher initial "magic number" will drop quicker

Understanding the "magic number" ....the players price based on their average, is important to understand

Understand it's a different format, but it's all explained here:

Not Rookies but Rookie Priced:

Any gold coast or Bulldogs fans have a read on Tom Berry and Dominic Bedendo in the pre season?

Both a few extra years in the system so if named should have better job security than the higher end draft picks you would think?

Being a Brisbane fan I'm pretty optimistic about Berry. Just could never crack our best 22 consistently.

Weird. There’s been talk by a few Melbourne track watchers on the supercoach board that Grundy hasn’t been great at training. Now I’m confused

This is why you can't trust puff pieces like this. Always the same sort of 'burning up the track', 'integrating well', buzz wording. Means nothing when you have actual track watchers on here saying that Grundy is dropping everything, finishing at the back of time trials, and just genuinely isn't as good as some hoped.

There's a free wing spot if Bedendo can make that his. TedDougChris should know more. Or is that Baker's?

I wouldn't pick Grundy, but ultimately I would ignore a lot of "burning up the track" stories. Things I care about in pre-season:

1. Rookies, are they getting roles and if so, what is it
2. Injuries
3. Roles players are playing (although this is experimentation stage so expect some weird ones).

Some players build into a season, others decide to tear into it from off-season. If you've got a premium and they're a) playing as much onball or more onball than 2022 and b) they're fit and not injured, they'll be fine. Grundy will be unique, but I can't see a world where Melbourne has either ruck averaging 100+ with their setup.

The internal discussions are still talking up Bedendo - but we won’t know if he gets Bevo’d for a few weeks yet.

Baker is your typical Bevo option - limited but gets endless game time for god knows ****ing why.

Once I get more intel I’ll share what I have in here

Beat me to it, haha. Another one crossed off the list. Be interesting to see who they play forward now. Does Heath get a go?
Marshall forward Campbell/Heath in the ruck?

Marshall forward Campbell/Heath in the ruck?

Campbell is injured too, so doubt that happens as Marshall is their really only viable ruck right now - but could see Heath shunted forward as a tall body, if available. More likely that no natural tall forward plays and they go with a hybrid forward line of Membrey, Sharman, J. Higgins, Butler, Owens, Gresham and then maybe someone like Battle or Howard shifted forward.

In any case, gonna be interesting to see what they end up doing. Does help Phillipou's case to get selected early and stay in though, as he's a decent size and is training with the forwards right now.

Pedlar is still available :) .....faultless pre-season
