From this, I think my takeaways would be:

VC Line should be around 105-110 unless you have a rolled gold Captain coming up with a very stable role, something like a ruckman or a piggish half back. Rolling into Midfielders (see Gulden Round 17, Martin Round 10, Green Round 2) doesn't often work.

Getting on a player late is never good. Don't chase form, I missed the majority of Jack Crisps good scores, and the same could be said for Mason Wood. There's a two-three window to make a move on players and if you miss it, even if there form has looked good for 5+ weeks, there is likely to be better options.

Move on from failed midpricers quickly. Looking back trading off of Jai Newcombe, Sexton, Billings, Grundy and Zac Williams were all good trades.

There are fewer downgrades than you think throughout the season. The first five weeks and the last five weeks almost have zero downgrades. Ensure your team has midpricers to shuffle around in the first few weeks and don't be afraid to lock in a red dot for the Fantasy Finals.

These were my two biggest takeaways from the season.

Getting on and off players quickly. Not waiting to give them 'one more game' to see if the role is there or waiting to see if they turn their form around. This is what gives you a jump on the competition.

It doesn't always work out, but it worked for me more times than it didn't.

Here's a couple of examples just from the first 5 rounds;

Billings in Round 2 out Round 4 - FAIL but got off him quickly
D'Ambro in Round 2 out Round 7 - got his 96 before everyone else jumped on but ended up holding too long
Powell in Round 3 - rewarded with 103 on debut
Zorko in Round 5 - one of my best trades for the season

and another notable trade later in the season;

Jeremy Cameron in Round 18 out Round 20 - got burnt with a 33 but didn't let that stop me from bringing him in again for the final round.

Amazing that the winner of AFL Fantasy this year is...Selby's brother in law.

One interesting stat I found from looking at the AFL Fantasy wrapped. Jack Billings did not score a single point for my team. Traded him in for R2 and out in gather round.

Wow I didn't know this, I haven't listed to Selby's pod since early season (because its too hard to use his podcast provider behind the paywall), do we know if he mentioned anything about it, like was he coaching him? Surely?

Not sure about the whole season, but Selby was certainly helping him out on the weekend. They both attended the Freo/Port game where the outcome was decided.

Interviewed the winner on todays AFL Fantasy pod. Worth a listen

I traded Salem in for 1 round during the bye and traded him straight out. The one game he played did not being count in my best 18.

In reflection, what has been everyone's worst trade ins this season?

In no particular order,
- I brought in Luke Ryan at the peak of his price, traded him out after 3 medicore scores. Brought him back in for a Richmond match up and traded him out again.

- As mentioned above, Christian ****ing Salem. 1 week in, the next week out. Didn't even count in my best 18 score for the week.

- Jack Macrae in for a 5 week span where he averaged 70 at best for me.

My worst trades were definitely:

Clayton Oliver - tried to catch a falling knife and get him before he bottomed out, scored 65 and lost cash the first week I got him, then went 106, 99, 94, but then went 85, 86 and 67 before I traded him for less cash than what I bought him at. Complete waste of a trade and very sideways.

Will Day - bye play but never really got moving, scored 92 on trade in, then 109 but then a poor score of 72 before I traded him out.

Jack Crisp - traded Crisp in after a run of 5 tonnes, scored 79 for me first week then 112 (with 3 goals), then 69 before I traded him out.

James Sicily - i've said it like 5 times but reversed my Newman trade (119) to Sicily because I was afraid of the wind at Optus that day. Sicily drops a 53, I lose all my preliminary finals by less than 15 points (would have won with the extra 60 from Newman) and lose a chance at a triple digit rank.
