I couldn't care less about cordy personally.

Even at his absolute best he's just more of the same B grade key back we have plenty of already.

What we really need is for a guy like howard to really become an A grader (at FB or CHB).

If he serves up more of the same under lyon, I'm happy to cut him loose for peanuts and start again.

So far (hopefully this changes under lyon)... he's shown he's too instinctively attacking and not good enough 1 v 1 to be a gun lockdown defender (ala may or rance etc)

But he's so far also shown he's not good enough to be a real attacking weapon who can hurt teams on the counter attack either.

He's in no-mans land

He's not terrible, but he's also looking so far to be B grade at absolute best as a key defender.

We need a couple of genuine A grade key defenders if we are going to push for top 4 and a flag.
If it isn't within him to do it, I think we should cut our losses and move on

One thing about a Ross Lyon defence is that you only have to do what you do to a team standard, not be elite. I think the combination of Wilkie, Battle and Howard with Coffield, Nas and Paton looks pretty scary in a few years. The defence at times this year looked amazing but fell away later with more entries bombing in.

Key defender depth is definately an ongoing issue.

Hopefully the plan is for us to shoot up the ladder this year and either:

A. A couple of our current guys (howard, battle, wilkie, coff) take another big step forward and become truly elite (ala may/lever/andrews etc)

Or

B: our rocketing up the ladder does enough to impress the likes of makay at north etc and we poach a true gun key defender from somewhere else.

If that happened, one of our current guys becomes depth or is traded for a good return.
We would then use that good return to bring in new, better kpd depth (along with other benefits elsewhere).

Point is, it's no real biggie if Eyre is a spud- he's likely to be never more than a speculative project pick even if we do take him.
Same with cordy- if he spuds it up, no real harm done
No doubt Battle and Coff can improve , Coff is the pick of the bunch to become elite IMO
Wilkie is already a very good player but doubt he will ever be classed as elite except for on here and Howard is just a battler IMO and doubt he has any improvement in him, what we have seen is about it

Thankfully the majority of the rehab group have returned to full training, but the other injury news are not ideal.

You have to wonder how a kid just drafted (Hotton) develops stress fracture in his back? Did he have it before he was recruited or develop it in the 4 weeks he was training at the club? Either way its not a great start for the poor kid.

If you want the best opposition mid fielder kneed in the jaw in a tight PF. Cordy is your man.

My Bulldogs supporting family love him for that and only that reason. (Callan Ward if I recollect).

He probably would have had issues with his back and maybe something during training exacerbated it before christmas.

Bytel and Windhager both had stress fractures in their backs prior to drafting. While Bytel has not had the seniors success, it hasn't been because of his back, and didn't hinder Windy in the slightest.

Bad luck but shit happens

Stress fractures are usually overwork injuries, I think? So maybe he was going too hard on the weights at the end of the year.

Yeah, the emphasis on defenders actually defending first and foremost under lyon teams of the past has me optimistic.

I hope he can mould howard into a proper defender.
At present howard does a bit of defending... a whole lot of attacking, and not much pain being inflicted on the opposition when he does either.

My main point is that if it's looking like even under lyon he can't become genuinely good at defending- then I'm happy for us to make a big call and ship him off for peanuts.

I think most who watch him closely would consider him well and truly elite defensively, and that was reflected in him making the AA squad last season.

Their old man is a massive unit. Mitch is the smallest in is family. Nuts

I would say that Mum is the smallest

Mitch is likely taller now as well

It should say “Premiers?”. Then whenever it happens, just turn the question mark into the “2” of “2XXX”. Would also work for “3XXX”.
Come on boys I’m trying to be serious 🧐 here.
