Didn't say I agreed with them!

Have been offered a bet of $100 that Hawks will win a flag before the Saints.

There is a strong narrative that the Saints are no mans land, I am not convinced that Ross Lyon is the answer as coach as others. Do have some faith in some of the Ast coaches etc in place around him and that we do have a reasonable list with obvious gaps at the moment ie the forward line and class in the middle. Injury list could be a blessing with need to play the kids

Time will tell, would love to see Windhager, Owens in the middle developing.
Take the bet.

They will play there for periods. Windhanger longer periods. Owen won’t for a while obviously because of injuries. And who knows. He may end up as very good mid sized forward. Interested in why you aren’t sure of Lyon being the answer. That’s about the only thing I’m confident about. As for the !100 bet I’d back the hawks as well. Not because of their list but because one in 150 suggests waiting for the saints will be far to late for my life.

Said at the time of Lyon coming back that it felt like we were after an easy out, I hope to be proven wrong. Ross has stated his game style has changed, I want us to be strong enough and deep enough to develop from within.

Want us to be a club of choice with self assurance that we do not give a flying fk about what others think. Personally really looking forward to our young players having a crack at it.

Well it sounds like it’s all good. Last time was completely different to this time. He had about 7AA on the list. It made complete sense to do anything to win a flag even if it stuffed us up into the future. Now we don’t have that so we must improve our current players and trade and draft well. We also had zero money on our cap previously. We would have plenty more this time.

Personally I am looking forward to Nas signing this week

The posters that post in the down times are like a secret order of dullards who are given the task of standing guard over the ark of the covenant or something. Generations pass and you just sit their talking s**t waiting for someone to arrive to do some protecting.

I wish someone would deliver us a flag so we can go and do some fishing or another boring pastime.
Or the SODs as they are know within the order.

I think we are one more good draft away and some shrewd free agent/trades from being a contender if I’m honest.

Owens Windy and Pou are the mids who in another 1-2 seasons will become the gun mids for us.

We are using 2 of them as forwards this week.

We need another Key back and that will allow us to use Wilkie on the likes of Toby Greene and Dusty etc when they go forward. Battle third tall.

Then you can play really attacking Half backs.

We need another forward Ruck that can chip in 30 goals a season and competently ruck.

again, if by the bye we are struggling. Go all in on player development. If the draft is as good as touted. Go balls deep in the top 20 and I think we comfortably play finals in 24.

What is going to kill us is the injury list for the first half of the season.
First round picks have become so expensive in the last 2 years that l simply don't see how we get another one unless Nas goes to Adelaide. I wouldn't call that a win either.

It’s probably likely to be a neutral at best. He has 10 good years left. Every draft pick is better than what you have until you realise they aren’t.

I think we just need to let this season play out.

I really wouldn’t worry about who stays who goes. There are options and let’s just see what it looks like.

Maybe Ross is the GOAT who has never won a flag and gets the walking wounded into the finals.

Maybe we are missing too many to play consistent footy and we start the rise to finals in 24 with a killer pick.

One thing is for certain, the ubiquitous claim Ross gets the best out of players gets a litmus test this season.

The issue with a large injury list and lack of wins is pressure comes for everyone and the young players and/or the fringe players all of sudden have more spotlight on them than would otherwise be the case when the machine is humming along.

I think the word "rebuild" will definitely build into the St. Kilda conversation at some stage throughout the season, if it doesn't then I agree with you, Ross is the GOAT.

You could argue that only Allison won’t have a club or be at our club from our current injury list next year.

Allison is contracted to the end of 2024 and was showing promise before getting injured.

Top 10 picks are not guaranteed to drag you back up the ladder.
They help but you don’t want to count on it, good development wins out every time.
McCartin
Billings
Clark
Coffield
Not having a shot at them but how did that go getting us up the ladder.
Yep rebuilding just using mainly draft picks gets you no where most times. Obviously exceptions but more examples of failure than success.

Looks like the honeymoon period for cuddly Ross is over and we're back to going at each others throats as the impending doom of the season draws closer. 40 blokes out, Ross sharing the gameplan with the entire competition, Bassat walking around barefoot, it's all happening.

Let's leave the arguments for after we lose by 12 goals on Sunday xo

May as well get used to arguing because the expected loss will start many this week especially from those who don’t expect it.
