We tried 4 talls and his output was the lowest of the 4 so with Higgins returning. It was only fair that he was dropped when he was.

I think you play the promising kid when you have the choice. Otherwise you don't develop the future. It's fine if you're Geelong but making up ground doesn't just happen.

So we drop a better performing Membrey or Marshall instead? Or don't bring back the player who had been our 2nd best forward at that point of the season?

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

His output was a direct result of our rubbish ball movement and entry.
With King playing there was no functional structure to the forward line. It’s easy to say that’s Sharman’s fault and we need to move him but nothing was working so Ratts went back to trying his small forward set up with very limited success.

Kind of depends what his role was though. We're not to know, but he should have been used as HHF whilst Members goes back to playing out of the goal square.
I think the main point is Ratts wasn't very astute with this sort of stuff.

So we should have kept in the forward with the lowest production and impact in the side, and kept out the player who has been our 2nd best forward and arguably the best small forward in the comp before he got injured?

Let's stick to $20 thanks.

I may be misremembering but I seem to recall that Sharman was playing this weird wing/high half forward role from the first intraclub of the preseason and then into the preseason matches. He struggled to get involved in the play and then basically fell out of favour for a while.

Even when he was eventually recalled to the team later on, he seemed to be playing a decoy and/or defensive role, before being moved to defence (and possibly second ruck at some points?).

At no point during the season was Sharman given the role he is most naturally suited to and best at, which is to play as an orthodox marking forward with the aim of kicking goals. This is the role he excelled at in 2021.

No doubt he could be fitter and stronger, but I see this as another example of player mismanagement by and large.

From memory. Ross doesn’t use that type of weird set up.

He does like to use leading forwards though.

Should suit Sharman.

haha surely taking the piss thinking keeler/adams/allison/van es will get a game round 1. 1st/2nd year tall draftees are so far behind with both game knowledge and physical attributes. sharman, wood, owens, marshall majority forward time with campbell in the ruck or swing battle forward are all 10x better options

You'll fit in well here with your 1st post hanging sh1t on someone else's playful fantasy.

Was chatting to someone who was at a saints event.
Couple things obviously a few whispers but

Appaz - we had Pou at no 2 on our board. To concur with most of what’s been said he’s a bit of an arrogant bloke, which I don’t see as bad. Obvs rubbed some people the wrong the way tho.

Ross is more concerned with getting us right for long term then just this year.

Van Es is 95kg already, isn't he? But do agree

“There’s an opportunity for everyone from Tim Membrey all the way down to Keeler” is pretty much what he said. Nothing to read into.
