Not only dropped marks but some of his handballs just dribbled out and cost opportunities
So did Newman's.
It was an error riddled game. I'm really surprised, especially after watching the replay, of the amount of heat Marchy seems to be copping.
He had 3 clangers for the game. One of them was an iffy free that was paid to them, and the exact same thing wasn't paid to us.

Can’t see them dropping Owies - he kicks important goals.

Somebody has to go though.

Cunners seems to be struggling, not able to do what he does best.
It will be between those 2.
Owies has been pretty poor the last 2 weeks. Great goal at the start of the 4th, but aside from that did very little.

Agreed. Yes, a few fumbles and the dropped mark, but he took a few important marks and was involved in other critical plays. I actually thought he was okay after watching the replay. Routine whipping boys.

Mckay and Martin in
Kennedy and Cunningham out.
Pittont stays in I see people’s points on his defensive running but I think pitto is still our number one ruck. The midfield seems better when we are rucking to his taps. And he was excellent against Melbourne. De Koning is a perfect chop out to him and is starting to produce up forward. Mckay is no good as a chop out to TDK and we seen when pitto was out against the giants Briggs smashed us. Pitto is physical at contest and plays voss game style.
I do think though pitto rucks first 5 mins in the last qtr then gets sub out for a runner like hollands then TDK can ruck the last part.
Only worries playing the lions is if we come out of D50 like we did against Melbourne and turn it over it will go straight back over our head for a goal.
The other worry is the matchup on Charlie Cameron . I think our defenders matchup decent with everyone else except against him. Team defence will have to beat him . I think Mcgovern should get first crack, with saad and Newman rotating through him at times. He is a worry if he takes one of our guys to the square

Cuningham is playing as Cuningham does. The hype around here for him is huge but across his career this is exactly what he does. Get dropped/injured, the hype train around him starts again, he comes in and plays a decent game or 2 and everyone lauds his return, then fades again and is eventually dropped or gets an untimely injury. One thing he has maintained better than other seasons though is his tackling. Career high tackles this season which has been a part of our small half forward pressure

Thanks. Have to thank The OldDarkNavy's, Aphrodite and the Mods for inviting me back. Very generous and appreciated
Great to have such a positive poster back here.

Jaspa Fletcher in a SEN article about the "raucous Brisbane crowd"

“It will be loud,” he said further."
“I know they’ve played in front of 90,000 the last few weeks but being 30,000 Brisbane supporters this week, it might be a little change."

Sounds like A) They're expecting about 15K Carlton supporters given capacity of the Gabba & B) It may sound like we're playing at a retirement village after the last 2 x weeks.
I was at the Gabba for our last final there. It does get loud.

I think it's the design of the stands which reflects sound down and in rather than out like at the G.

Still, not as loud as last Friday but it was unexpectedly loud when Rich kicked that goal from outside 50 and ripped my heart out.

Well I guess you're entitled to that view.

For me Weitering's kick 2 seconds before is how that kick is supposed to look.

It doesn't take any sort of expert. It's basic. You want that ball out in front of your team mate away from the defender so that he has no chance to spoil it and doc takes the ball on his chest. You don't want it floated up above doc's head with a defender running in from behind.

Worked out in the end. Happy days but we can still acknowledge reality surely?
In essence if Doc is taking it on his chest, the Melbourne player doesn't fall over and Doc doesn't get the opportunity to 180 and run....

Hurry Up GIF

Cmon weekend!

Harry will come straight back in, he does plenty of work off and at the contest which makes our forward half better
Beyond the goal kicking, Harry did some decent things against Sydney. I'd be of the mind that if he's in close range just permit him to snap or have Marten, Charlie, Owies float past for a handpass.

Having him plunked in the square at least will allow Charlie to roam further upfield where he is just as dangerous to take any shot within 55-60m or deliver it pin point.

Agree.

As sure as the sun coming up tomorrow owies will play.

Going back last year and prior so many were dropping owies because of this that and the other.

What he’s showed to date is playing with heart and applying pressure and being in the right spot just at the right moments are critical for a small forward.

Motlop also stays in side for mine.

Motts and owies compliment each other really well.

Charlie and Harry have worked reasonably well together in the 2nd half of the year, both have been outlets on a wing, both have hit each other inside 50

As a team, we need to look for Harry to keep Andrews honest to manning a player, rather than playing the intercept role

both work up the ground and back at different times.

Harry just needs to nail a shot early, confidence.
If he dribbler against Sydney had gone through, he'd have kicked 4 (including the howler in the 3rd) and we'd have won by 50+.

I am a massive Boyd fan but to bring him back into a final after missing so much would be a massive call.
One of those conundrums.. we have a few fit players who haven't featured in the last few weeks. I guess Voss and the MC is of the view that unless you're injured, completely out of form, have been a constant in the side for 6 weeks+, or covering for one of the 15 untouchables in the 22, you stay in the side.

Kennedy unfortunately was cover and has missed too many weeks before that through his injury so expect him to make way.

Cunningham, completely out of form... makes way.

JSOS, Boyd, Kennedy just unfortunate timing with their injuries and suspension. Although it might be healthy for those just on fringe to have hope and keep competition up by giving Boyd or a Dow a run this week as sub or for a very sore player or one just hanging on (Marchy? Cinc?)

I think that's the view with Charlies comments on playing a role and sticking to basics.

In essence if Doc is taking it on his chest, the Melbourne player doesn't fall over and Doc doesn't get the opportunity to 180 and run....

You reckon Ollie was thinking to himself "I've gotta put this one on Doc's head so that Melbourne player in the corridor overcommits to the spoil and goes to ground, allowing Doc to mark and play on"?

Undoubtedly the kick worked out perfectly, but the result doesn't mean the kick went where it was supposed to go. I have no doubt that the "correct" kick would have been another metre or two towards the wing so that Doc was marking uncontested. A more experienced or disciplined defender might have just taken Doc's body when attempting to spoil, and made sure that the resultant free kick would be delayed 5-10 seconds to allow Melbourne to get numbers back. If the defender had snuck a fist in, or conceded the "professional free" and put Doc on the deck, then there'd be many more people bemoaning the fact that the kick wasn't to the open space.

Ultimately though, it's fine. It was a long kick with the game on the line and Ollie, at the very least, didn't shank it or grub it or put it to the opposition's advantage. He recognised the opportunity and the moment and he pulled the trigger. In a first year player that's to be applauded. There are definitely others in the team who wouldn't have been quick enough, or attentive enough, or skilled enough to see it and pull it off.

It worked, and we're all very ****ing lucky and grateful that it did.

Not to defend a Brisbane player at the moment, but, as someone who frequents the Gabba (well, frequents 3 or 4 times a year) it actually does get quite loud. Despite its age, in terms of atmosphere and viewing it's a fantastic ground to watch sport, no bad seats and the acoustics get loud. Certainly feels like much more than 30k when the fans are cheering such is the design which is fantastic imo.

Though as you say, he says 30,000 Brisbane fans, obviously he's expecting some significant away support. On the coverage last week Luke Hodge said he was expecting a 60-40 ratio given the extensive support Carlton get up here. I don't know if it will be quite that extreme but 25k Brisbane to ~ 15k Carlton wouldn't shock me. So if anything I think the crowd may be more of a surprise to Brisbane than Carlton. They'd be expecting significant home support so if we are able to take the edge off that it will be interesting.
