Dear .......,

The Collingwood Football Club is pleased to announce the launch of a new documentary, Take the Steps.

Taking viewers behind the scenes of Collingwood’s 2023 AFL finals series, the story focuses on the program’s journey to claim the Club’s sixteenth VFL/ AFL Premiership.

The Take the Steps premiere will be screened in front of 400 people on Wednesday, February 28 and HOYTS Cinema in Melbourne Central.

The 90-minute film will be shown exclusively at HOYTS Cinemas across the country in the weeks following*.

While the documentary tells the story of the entire AFL program, the story follows the journey of four individuals in Senior Coach Craig McRae, Captain Darcy Moore, Scott Pendlebury and Nick Daicos.

In only his second year as a senior coach, Craig McRae navigates the journey to become just the sixth premiership-winning coach in Collingwood history.

Captain Darcy Moore leads the team in his first year as Captain. The son of Collingwood great Peter Moore – who has lost four Grand Finals – Darcy fights to lift his father’s premiership curse.

Scott Pendlebury, 35, nearing the end of his career and arguably one of the Club’s greatest players, has the opportunity to experience ultimate team success once again.

Nick Daicos, in his second AFL season, fights in a race against the clock to return to the field from injury.

The title of the film, Take the Steps, was a motivational phrase used throughout the 2023 campaign. The playing group were challenged in the pre-season and climbed the steps of the MCG on the eve of their 28-week season. Take the Steps became a metaphor of the hard work required to achieve ultimate success of an AFL premiership.

Wow. Not even a free video for the faithful. Can't even watch in the privacy of your own home?

I don’t care about throwing a few bones the club’s way to watch a feature length doco, the issue is restricting it to being shown in a cinema chain that simply doesn’t have a regional presence.

I’m not really interested in doing a four-hour round trip to go to the movies

So the club after getting ever cent out of the supporters through merch sales which seem to pop up in your email daily are now wanting more by having the doco at the cinema.
This is a blatant money grab.

Does anyone know if the club is doing the GF replay on Fox with the players being interviewed, they do it every year and they are really good.

I'm at Frankston & they have one screening a day for the first 4 days. No going for me the wife & our grand kids I guess. perhaps the following week.

I'm sure it will be available online, dvd, Blu-ray, etc after it's been in the cinemas.

I'm not about to give the club a pass for doing an exclusivity deal for a few extra bucks. Do feature films ever get released to certain cinema brands only? Hardly.

Hoyts has zero regional presence across the country. I live half an hour east of Geelong, it's hardly Timbuktu. Yet they are only franchised around Melbourne suburbs.

It's just a slap in the face to the many, many Pies fans who don't live in metropolitan areas.

I don't care. I'll buy it or watch it online, because I live rurally (90 minutes from the CBD) and don't have Hoyts near me.

It was how I expected to see it anyway when I first heard about the doco.

Fair enough. I respect your patience!

Was recorded a few weeks back and will screen the week leading into opening round

I've got no issue with the club wanting to make some money off the premiership, especially given that this may well have cost additional resources to actually produce. But I'm regional too so I can't watch it.

I'd gladly chuck in even $20 to give it a go on a streaming app, especially now before the season starts and it's still quiet.

To save me the trouble of changing my preferred cinema location out of pure hypothetical, how much are they charging per ticket?

$25 per session but I can't remember the last time I paid full tote odds for a movie ticket. Many companies/clubs offer discounts
