I think Gowans has done a great job but I really don't like his disparaging comments about GWS. I understand he most probably wants to light a fire in the team and also try to help stoke the rivalry between the sides but just feel he has been a bit too inflammatory.

The Sydney Swans will unveil seven debutants against the GIANTS on Sunday afternoon, including four AFLW debuts in Tanya Kennedy, Julie O'Sullivan, Alice Mitchell, and Montana Beruldsen.

In the very first Sydney derby, round three last season, the Giants posted their highest ever score and their largest ever win, debuting young forward Zarlie Goldsworthy in the process. Goldsworthy, alongside that day's leading ball-winner Alyce Parker, present as two of the most important players for the Swans to contain if they are to snag their maiden win.
GWS wants to play attacking footy, applying immense forward pressure to trap the ball in its front half. What Sydney needs to be hyper aware of is remaining calm and composed in defence rather than allowing that Giants pressure to force poor skills and ill-discipline. New recruit and co-captain Lucy McEvoy will be key to leading this considered approach behind play.

Tip: While the Swans will show immense improvement, the Giants will still prove too strong. GWS by 15 points.

If you're gonna trash talk you gotta walk the trash walk, if you know what I mean. Hope that doesn't rebound.

I have high expectations for us this year. Not finals but being a competitive mid-tier team.

I'm expecting a big improvement this year. We have at least a couple of quality players per line with Smith, McEvoy and Heads out of defence, C Hamilton, Gardiner and a very fit looking Morphett in the midfield and Molloy, Hurley and Lochland up forward. It's a good sign that a decent player like Szigeti is on the bench and we still have Ham to come back. I'm not necessarily expecting finals but we do have an easier draw and if we get on a roll, who knows? As our men's team has shown, a season of footy is not without some left field occurrences.

I'm getting excited about this one .. What a statement if we could get our first ever win to start the 2023 campaign against our annoying Orange neighbours! Would be a nice extra Fathers Day treat.

Lot of familiarity with the mens side. Backline holding up against repeated entries. Some exciting play through the middle and a semi functional forward line. Oh and of course plenty of frees against.

FFS. Going to cough one up by punting the ball straight into a teammates face. Came about from trying to move it around rather than just trying to move it forward. Not sure we are ready to possess and switch yet.

Reasonable start and probably should have kicked at least one of the two, if not both. Pressure has been better, particularly up forward, than we saw last year.
