The whole point is that he would be doing a full preseason program starting november if they do stabilising surgery now.

A 'managed' preseason program could mean anything up to and including him jogging laps in a sling in november.

No compromise to him showing up to preseason... sure.

But as I said earlier- if we are merely setting the bar at max being present at pre-season training... then we are a joke.
Do you actually understand what a ā€œfull pre season looks likeā€ for Max?

Because it is non contact up until a few weeks out from the practice games and even then - Max may only play once.

I went numerous times pre Christmas and RTB was very very strict on contact/match sim.

He will get in a full weight/ strength and conditioning program.

Yeh very few people have no experience in this "field".

Ive have a a number of arthros, neck, shoulder, ankle, back and achilles surgeries in my time (and almost all related to football injuries) and as ive noted clearly my concern is not with the surgeons advice, its with the decision made by the club medical team.

Surgeons dont give bad advice, but they can have their advice ignored or misunderstood though.

Also not writing off finals this year, just noting that winning one final now and potentially derailing the career of a former number 1 pick and best player in our team for one final win, maybe two, versus setting us up for longer term success is not the trade i would personally make.

Hayes and Coff suffered completely different injuries.

Agreed with Membrey.

This is however a different injury to the reco for King. Albeit the same shoulder.

Our medical staff seem to have NFI about getting players right though. Are we looking at moving medical staff on. These ones were meant to be good but they have a treble record.
 
Experts are actually very rarely wrong.

People who have opinions with no expertise in a specific area are often very wrong.


Well our experts haven't had a stellar year to be honest. I have no issue with King coming back this year. But people getting pissy about some posters preferring the safest possible option for one of our premium players doesn't seem outrageous and especially as we seem to have a medical crew who can't get players on the park regularly and seem to bring players back only for them to immediately break down again.

I look at that injury list from March compared to the injury list now and most of the injuries started in pre season and were either A. contact injuries or B. Players with a history of injuries or C. Combination of the two.

Blaming a specific medical group for bringing back players and them breaking down seems to me a path leading to great disappointment when the next batch prove to do the same thing if you're using the same bodies.

Our football department not being able to manage out players with a long history of soft tissue injuries on the other hand...

It gives it a different context when you realise that it was written about all-male oil wrestling.

And again, i cant believe i have to say this again, im not concerned with the surgeons advice, im concerned with the decision made by the club medicos who have been wrong a number of times this year already.

So the club medicos follow a surgeons advice & the issue is with the club docs?

Or are you suggesting the surgeon didn't advise the club that the best option for Max is to rehab for a month & do the lesser surgery at season's end?

Re: Membrey, he wasn't mismanaged, his degenerative knee was much worse than thought when they did the scope on him. The one week timeline was fine if it had just needed the small clean up that they thought it would.

The other players you mentioned had either totally unrelated injuries (Hayes, Billings) or had issues that quite commonly happen after a serious one (Coffield's calf).

And a heap of our injury issues this season have just been bad flipping luck.

In what cases have the club docs been found to have been wrong in their strategy?
 
Maybe you don't know as many doctors as I do, but they're humans and they have opinions and egos like the rest of us. The human body isn't a machine so there are always variables they don't and can't account for. Ask two medical professionals a question and you'll probably get three different answers.

It's not what we think Georgy...

It's what a bloke who's studied for 10 years, practiced in the field for 20+ & is renowned for being the best in a very small pond thinks.

Happy to back him (or her) over what a layman with nothing more than a senior first aid certificate 'feels'.
