Bloody hell, I can't wait for us to win a premiership, maybe then we can stop hearing about GF 2010. Those guys didn't get it done, big deal - every year, there is a team that loses the GF: Let it go. I am sick of hearing about it. I get we haven't been close since - maybe that's our punishment. I'd rather hear about the rest of the season or even the earlier parts of the game.

"Players literally poured out their blood, sweat, and tears" - Joey, please look up "literally" in the dictionary. I would have gone with "Players literally worked incredibly hard" or "Players metaphorically but in a very real sense poured out their blood, sweat, and tears" perhaps?

Sick of this loser history, really hope Bassat's plan comes off and we can actually create something worth reliving again and again.

Not sure I agree. It's what happened, we can either pretend that it didn't or we can own it. It's a highly-charged emotional moment for many supporters so I reckon it's ok for the club to acknowledge that.

Weird question? Not at all. It doesn't seem like you watched the video because you decided to comment only on the loss but not the other half of the video which was the win. It's a doco that tells the history of the club, irrespective of wins or losses. Flipping out about it is the weird bit. The overreaction is bizarre.

It's the first part of a six part series by the way. How about waiting until it's finished before flipping out lol. This woe is me bullshit gets tiring after a while. Accept it for what it is.

Flipping out? You are quite a strange person at times.

Yes, OK I'm a bit bored of hearing about Barry Breen's bloody point as well.

I want more. So do you. I accept our history but doesn't mean we can't write a new chapter with reading and I'm sure all Saints fans want that.

But regardless, there's already so much to talk about in our MCG history, I've already given just a few examples off the top of my head.

No one is "flipping out".

I think most of us are strange but you are comfortably stranger than I am. This is a 6 part documentary by the club, about the club. Wins, losses, the lot. You took the first 3 minutes of a 6 part series (5 parts in which you haven't seen yet) and turned it into a whinge fest. If that's not a flip-out I'm not sure what is. Ignoring parts of our history is stupid.

If you didn't expect people to challenge you on your opinion you shouldn't have posted. Blowing up about 150 years of our lack of success every time the club decides to talk about it is ridiculous.

Yes, there's other things to talk about - that's why you wait until the doco is finished? Wouldn't that make sense? Yes we can write a new chapter. That's beside the point isn't it? This is a doco on our history, so they'll discuss our history...

As you are totally sick of hearing about the GF losses I'm equally sick of us continuing to complain about it. It happened, it sucks, but it's part of the clubs history. Every year they show it on GF week. It sucks, it's part of history. Gotta accept it and move on.

Listened to Kosi a lot since his retirement and that's so sad to hear about. I think it's probably 18 years since the Gia hit and Kosi collapsing on live TV. Very scary to think about how concussion will impact players post footy. Definitely changed him as a person.

He was never the same footballer after that

Let’s be honest….getting close is all we’ve got.
Still better than 8000+ days without winning a final.

I’ll take getting there and missing (as bloody painful as it was - and it was!) than never getting there at all.

Ok I'm done with this discussion. Moving on.

Edit: it's clear reading your last response that you didn't really get what I was saying, I ont want to keep going back and forth but for others who are interested:

I accept I've watched the first part of a series, and my criticism is solely about the part I've seen not the whole series. Like people who might not like a particular episode of Game Of Thrones even if they love the series. Both facts can co-exist. You want me to wait until the whole series is shown then patiently critique each episode one by one, or better still, just shut up and consume. I won't.

Not blowing up, not flipping out, just whinging. I look forward to a future where our takes on our history can be more varied. Not sure what's so objectionable about that. I have detailed other more original St Kilda instances involving the MCG specifically, which was the subject of that episode.

I know it's about our history. But our 150 yr history - even just the MCG moments - contains so much more than a wobbly point, a great specky and an errant bounce.

Ixm not confident that you get where im coming from, but I'll try to make that my final word on the matter.

Yeahhhh not sure TBH. 8000 days without winning a final isn’t great but at least they experienced a premiership in 2000 and at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about. I’d take Essendon’s drought over ours.

Fair enough I just don't understand what you're whinging about. It's a doco on the history of the club so they will discuss the history of the club which includes Grand Final losses. I think the first episode had more to do with Grand Finals than moments at the MCG.

What I don't like about it is that the history seemingly only goes back to 1966 or at least a period in which many of us were alive. And that's not particularly a criticism of this doco but any time the history of the Saints is brought up it's rarely anything prior to '66.

I would enjoy it more if they got the club historian Russell Holmesby in to narrate or provide stories, particularly the replay of the 1913 GF in which we won, players like Bill Mohr and Roy Cazaly, the move up the ladder in the late 50's under Alan Killigrew, stories on Baldock Howell Ditterich Stewart Smith Neale, move to Moorabbin etc. I have properly read up on the history of the club as I'm sure have a few others and they could've expanded on the timeline of events for the doco IMO. A few of us could've done a good job in sharing stories with them although Russ would have all that already.

Anyway, wanting a better future has nothing to do with this series so I don't understand why you brought it up.

So that was four years after we arrived in Aus - my Bombers supporting family don’t care about a premiership 23 years ago, it’s long forgotten - they’re just living through the frustrations of no finals for donkeys years.

Will anyone at the presser this week point out to Ross that it was in fact Steele himself who reported on his knee and not something that was just “out in the media”?

Blind Freddy can see he isn’t right…
Ross says that because the idea is that if a player steps onto the field, they've declared themselves fit to play.

He rides Steele pretty hard. I get the feeling he thinks Steele has got to a comfortable level and happy to drift along.

Our list has more to give as far as sacrifice to the success of the side and until that happens we probably stay a side between 5th and 15th. Gresham, Steele, Ross types are the guys who were lauded for not being shit for years and they are happy cruising along being big fish in a small pond.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a new captain for next year, Wilkie the obvious choice

Agreed, but what’s the point basically having a starting contest, waiting for one of parties to blink first and declare that “You are/I’m not fit to play.” It’s not like it’s just been a couple weeks like this, it’s been two months.

Steele’s probably played a handful of impactful quarters since he’s come back, hardly worth the potential long term damage he could do by aggravating the knee.

Sometimes we have to protect the players from themselves, they don’t players play after head knock even if they don’t have concussion symptoms afterwards (Owens).
