How I see it playing out,
We trade p13 to pies for noble and their F1st
Collingwood trade p13 and Richards for Houston
We get ports F1st for luko.
Maybe some other pick swaps but seems pretty fair for all clubs.
I have seen this a few times and I don’t hate it, it always seems to be us doing the gambling, I don’t think we have won any to date.

Entering next year with 3 firsts again is insane work

Our cap opens up again next year after a few clubman leave

I’m not sure we should be helping the pies…. Bringing in Houston and Perryman is a pretty good trade period for the pies.

I’d say better then Rioli and Noble.

Houston and Rioli similar value
Noble and Perryman I’d rate Perryman well above Noble.

My own opinion anyway.

And 2025 picks won’t help us play finals next year!

We actually need to beat the teams in 2025 that we are getting these future picks in… otherwise what’s the point of going sideways.

Should we be prepared to let Addisnall go rather than banking 3 first rounders for next year? We already have Touk, Rowell, Flanders, Rogers, Lombard and probably Uwland as undersized 180cm mids, should we be prepared to let him go if a bid comes so early that we can't afford it, so we can target somed positions of need in this years draft?

I understand we want to take as many academy boys as possible, it takes out the go home factor, encourages boys and girls to choose to play footy on the Gold Coast, I think it builds a strong team culture and makes us a family club, there's lots of benefits for taking him, but for list management's sake, would we be better picking up our positions of need now and hoping he slides, and if he doesnt, and we decide we want him, crossing that bridge when we get there?

It's a good question, and also applies to Jai Murray. I'd love us to get Joe Berry this year, a gun small forward is desperately needed to replace Rankine. Also think we need to trade a KPD to replace Collins in a few years. But maybe this can be done with later picks? Or next year.

Regarding the midfield, Addinsall can't play until 2026 and probably would need a couple more years to get up to speed. That puts him at least 3 years away from being in the midfield rotation. Touk will be 32 then and not an issue. Anderson/Rowell/Flanders should be at their absolute peak and hopefully Humphrey is at that point too. You really want at least 5 good midfielders so there is room for another.

I don't think Rogers will ever be a full time mid at AFL, he's just too small imo. Lombard possibly the same. Uwland looks more like a Gulden type to be, more outside so his size is less of a problem.

The other factor is academy access. Does it last forever? Are there younger players (that us the public are unaware of at this time) projecting to be as good? If there are maybe we pass on him, but if the club feels the players in 2026/27/28 drafts aren't as good it might be prudent to take as many as possible.

Remember also if we make finals we can only match 2 first round bids, so it may not be possible to get him. I like the look of Patterson as a fast (and how we need pace) outside player. Not sure what happens if we have to choose between them.
