Take it with a grain of salt but apparently we have put a lot of time into Luke Trainor in the last few weeks. Combination of concussion issues and behavioural stuff is expecting to see him slide into the late second or as far as the rookie draft and we are firming as one of the few teams expected to take the punt. Have heard this from several sources.

SO IM TOLD

Top 10 pick on talent so could be a steal if it happens.

After plenty of three-vote games this season, Lombard also got top honours at the Draft Combine. He won the agility test with a blinding time of 7.812 seconds – fifth fastest in Combine history – and was then second in the 20m sprint (2.851 seconds), which was the sixth fastest in Combine testing. It was the final reminder of Lombard's high-powered game before he officially joins the Suns as an Academy product next month. Gold Coast has moved its picks knowing a bid will come early for the midfielder/forward, whose defensive pressure will also see him be edging for a game early in his debut season.

Cal hates Leo. Happy for him to slide. Obvious top 5 guy. Really couldn’t have been any better this year. Dominated at U18s even tested well where most top guy don’t give a crap on combine day

Unfortunately he won’t win the rising star because he’s 100% doing something stupid to get suspended. But hand him the best first year player award already

It’s weird hey. Played in the VFL granny last year. Best and fairest in the Champs and 8 full VFL games this year to top it off.

Happy for him to slide but wtf lol

Gold Coast

Arrivals: Elliott Himmelberg (free agency), John Noble (trade), Daniel Rioli (trade)
Departures: Rory Atkins (trade), Sandy Brock (delisted), Levi Casboult (retired), Sam Day (delisted), Brandon Ellis (retired), Oskar Faulkhead (delisted), Jack Lukosius (trade), Darcy Macpherson (delisted), Jack Mahony (delisted), Hewago Oea (delisted), Will Rowlands (delisted), James Tsitas (delisted)
Draft picks: 39, 41, 51, 61, 70, 76, 78
Uncontracted: None
Contracted: 38 (one category B rookie)
Academy prospect and midfielder Leo Lombard will be among as many as three selections the Suns make at next month’s national draft, with rookie Bodhi Uwland set to be upgraded to the primary list post-draft. Lombard could receive a top-10 opposition bid – possibly from St Kilda, who hold picks seven and eight – after sharing this year’s Larke Medal as the most outstanding player at the under-18 championships. They have already committed to adding ex-cricketer Zak Evans, who represented Australia as a fast bowler at under-19 level, as a category B rookie. Evans played five VFL games for Gold Coast late in the season after last playing football six years ago at Xavier College.

He may be a closet Suns fan and he's talking him down for us

I don't think he hates him, it's just one of those years where everyone has different opinions on players. It's so incredibly even that only a few weeks out there is no consensus top 5, nothing. Richmond could legit pick one of 4 or 5 players with pick 1 and someone might not rate that player top 5.

Hello, I guess you probably won't complain but why is Leo not rated higher? Is it his height? Already fully mature?

Yeah, most of us are a bit puzzled by his rating I don't know reasons.
I think Leo at 10-15 is about right. When he was being talked about at 5 it was way too high, in my opinion.

He is not as clean as some of the other players above him by foot, or as tall. Obviously has the speed/burst, maybe the tank, definitely the effort/pressure. Has experience at a high enough level too.

But not sure what he is like off-field. Heard some mixed reports, but nothing significant.

Plus it’s a deep draft with good enough players all the way through, and less standouts. He may end up being a better player, but I’d say there are players clubs would probably want before Leo (as a smaller inside mid) hence him sliding as the year went on.

Doesn't seem the type to be an off field drama, personally think it's his height.

If you lack height and don't have an elite kick or goal kicking instincts then the long term upside is capped. Tell me an elite player at his height he reminds you of?

Don't know why everyone seems so keen to match a bid so high?

Gold Coast is also expected to take two or three players at the draft.

🤞 Luke Trainor or Joe Berry is one... or Malaki Champion but he is an eagles academy player

Boomer Harvey? For argument's sake. Leo will he his own player, and a very good one at that
