I wonder if Orthodox Easter has a small impact on the crowd given it’s Good Friday this week?

Both clubs have a strong following among those communities (e.g. Greeks, Macedonians etc.)

Selling tickets so far in advance for this game will surely make the no-show % higher than usual, not sure what that turns out to be in actual numbers.

18 degrees and no rain in sight expecting a bumper MCC turnout, hopefully can offset everything else and can pull 90k. Won't be surprised at all if 86-87k goes up on the scoreboard.

It’s a shame about the torrential rain forecast for Sydney. Would have to be one of the most anticipated H&A Sydney Derby’s of all time with both in good form and top 4. Regardless, ticket sales still look very good but it’ll all come down to members and ticket holders turning up on the day - which will probably be very rain dependant.
It will be interesting - it looks to be all sold out beside restricted view. The Gabba got 30,000 a few weeks ago in a game that just didn’t stop raining.

I can see a lot of people not turning up to a run of the mill match that they haven’t paid much money for, but the quality of these teams may just persuade a few to get soaked.

Obviously it will effect families/ elderly/ people travelling on PT that may go haywire, but hopefully not too many.

Funnily enough the restricted view seats are all undercover (albeit still $54) so they may be better than the $100 seats in the rain.

That's a great result, particularly given the rain. I don't think the derby at the scg usually sells out.

For obvious reasons, Melbourne v Geelong at the home of football isn't being discussed as much as another game but it is going to be a big game with two in form teams.
Surely a big crowd is expected?!

Not going by ticket sales. They haven't opened up the top decks in the public stands as there are still plenty of seats unsold on the bottom level. The AFL Members is a similar story, with plenty of seats available at the bottom.

Presumably there'll be plenty of people just walking up, and the MCC should be well populated so hopefully it will get a decent crowd like the matchup deserves.

Worth bearing in mind though that these 2 teams have only ever exceeded 50k 6 times, and half of those were more than 60 years ago.

Anything over 45K is acceptable imo but hoping for it to get to 50K. AFL/MCC/Public Sales are all way ahead of the Melbourne Bulldogs game which drew 44K.
Saturday night not great for crowds especially for geelong.

I was thinking maybe 60k but it looks to be a massive overestimation

Although if you break it down for a top 4 clash, Melbourne should/could bring 35k and Geelong 25k or am I well off the mark?

Probably more neutrals for this game than the game in R1 as well, every chance this is a finals preview

Marvel had opened up a lot more seats to the public than usual at a Dogs game across level 1 30-40 and 20-16. Similar on level 2. Not suggesting it will be massive just something I noticed.

Way off, we will bring 30 and they will bring 15-20 plus whatever neutrals show up.

Amazing how few Port Adelaide supporters there are at the showdown. I'm guessing they get a member allocation of 3,000 or something as the away club.

Anyway, good to see the showdown on FTA nationally. Should be standard.

No different to any other Adelaide home game and why should it be.
Adelaide gives the away team the bay behind the goals in 145 or 146 and that’s it. You have to buy tickets in the general public if you want to go.

When port are the home team, away clubs get bay 543 as well.

Yep I personally don't like it, just feels like any other South Australian game against an interstate side. I mentioned last week I'd prefer if the showdowns have finals like seating of 50.50, it would add to the atmosphere and provide something those cities never get to experience, with big away support at a game.

Adelaide Oval crowd: 52,106. Record home crows showdown crowd. Beats 51,140 from 2003.
That is a great crowd for Adelaide and meanwhile at Australia's biggest football code according to its chairman had 8000 at the former Sydney Olympic Stadium!

And now for tomorrow night at the MCG maybe 90,000+?

The 1963 record of 81,550 will take some beating.

I was hoping for 60,000 tomorrow given the ladder positions, but that’s looking very hopeful. 50,000 is probably a more sensible target.

The mcg app says general admission only between q1-q10 row K and back. This isn’t very much; I wonder whether this means the top of ponsford and Olympic stands won’t be open, or whether this a typo? Do Melbourne have any reserve seat members up there? Being forced up the back of the Shane Warne stand would be a bit frustrating when there’s empty seats on the wing in the Olympic stand.

We dont have any reserved seats on Level 4.

The app isnt correct, if you scroll to the bottom of the app, you will see it is a copy paste of the Collingwood Hawthorn game from last year.
They haven't published the GA areas yet, will only be much later today.

The GA areas are going to be Q1-Q15 in the Southern, Q49-Q57 in the Olympic and all level 1 and level 4 Ponsford.
Im actually suprised they have put all of level 1 of the Southern Stand on sale. M4 in the Souther stand will be GA but I think reserve for Melbourne.

MCC they are now selling to row T in Q39-Q48.

Suspect it will get to 50K, maybe a tad more.

Terrific to hear mate. This game is big and deserves a strong 50-55,000 crowd!

Yes, Melbourne still has plenty of crazy records from the late 50s and early 60s that mostly seem unlikely to change any time soon.

There's only one record crowd between two clubs that dates back earlier than 1974 that does not involve Melbourne, and that's Carlton/Swans (unbelievably dates back to 1934, and which is almost certain to break whenever they next play at the MCG).

Whereas Melbourne have 5 records between themselves and other clubs that are all 60 years old (or will be next year).

Yep the 1939 - 1964 years were Melbourne's golden era when they won 10 of their 13 VFL premierships and were part still of the MCC during that era.

Might be a tad hard to beat the 99.5k against the pies lol.
