Swans could move a home final this year to Stadium Australia as they would get a crowd that would easily justify it. Won't happen though.
Wouldn’t do it for a final, but it would be interesting for a big match late in the home and away season to be moved…

Round 22 against Collingwood could have huge potential

Doubt it. There's been a big generational shift in the last 10 years to support footy in inner west and inner north Sydney. Becoming a bit of a trendy yuppie gen Y thing to go to. Those people aren't travelling out west.

As evidenced by the lack of crowds at Showgrounds for Giants games. Plenty of tickets left for the ‘battle of the bridge’.

All Swans home games and home finals are contracted to be played at the SCG until 2047.

When we signed the deal with the SCG in 2014 to begin in 2017 we had less than 5000 reserved seat memberships available at the time and knew capacity would become an issue at some point.

The club is able to put a premium on reserved seats as a result and make more money long term rather than lose money playing games at Homebush which was hated by our members and fans.

Our crowds this year are the result of getting our flexi members (3 game members etc) turning up in greater numbers to our Red Zone members reserve than ever before.

Incredible to think that in 2007, the Swans drew 63,000 plus to three Homebush home and away games

Would bring 60k of their own IMO, let alone travelling fans especially against a Carlton, Essendon or Collingwood

Looking forward to you blokes responding after last weekend’s performance. A big Melbourne crowd will be turning up tomorrow!
lol, will be similar to tonight. 60k bombers, 25k Carlton and 3k neutrals.

Was a magnificent Essendon turnout. Will expect the same breakdown for Collingwood and Melbourne (25k of us for an away game is still great)

On a night where there are genuinely 50,000 plus maybe even 60+ Essendon supporters here, their team lets them down.

Similar to my own team when we all show up.

Yes it was a big turnout by the Bomber army, let down by a wasteful and inefficient team.

As I thought the bad weather during the day would have knocked off at least a couple of thousand neutrals from attending but all in all still and excellent crowd on a mongrel day weather wise.

Maybe the AFL should count their crowds like a lot of the major US sports do and have the ticket sales as the crowd number not those who actually turn up.

Some trivia from tonight's match:
  • 19th biggest H&A crowd in VFL/AFL history.
  • Carlton's 3rd biggest H&A crowd in their history.
  • Essendon's 6th biggest home crowd.
  • Essendon's biggest home crowd against an opponent that wasn't Collingwood and didn't occur on Anzac Day.

Do we know where it sits for a non public holiday home and away game? I believe only 2 have ever made it to 90k?
3rd highest I think.

Rd 20 2000 = Carlton vs Essendon (91,571)
Rd 1 2018 = Richmond vs Carlton (90,151)
Rd 13 2024 = Essendon vs Carlton (88,510)

It was a huge Bomber rollup, they came in numbers on the night. It was a less balanced crowd than I thought it would be, possibly due to Blues in slight lull when tickets were selling and Bomber fans reawakening and coming out of the woodwork.

Blues have the week off and then Geelong at the MCG...that should draw a reasonable crowd on form given then last game was a Cats home one and that pulled 87,775

also this was the 5th match this season to top 80k....and the 4th involving Carlton.
