Didn’t Carlton pull this exact move for Liam Stocker who ended up a bust?

I agree it’s ballsy. And I don’t see North rising significantly, still a decent chance at a bottom 4 finish.

Right or wrong we’ll find out in due course, but my broader point is what are your scouts there for if you’re not prepared to back them in?

No they won’t. The price will be long forgotten.

Do you think Gold Coast look at the Pick 6 (from memory) we gave them for Prestia and then Scrimshaw who they picked and then left a few years later, and think "Shit, we got pick 6, we did pretty bloody well" ? I think with any trade you have the initial optics of if it was a good deal and then years later you have to reassess to decide who did better out of it. Whitlock could even just be an average player and if we draft a spud then North win the trade.

Can someone explain to me why the first round is 27 picks? I counted three academy/FS selections, three compensation picks and two assistance picks. Shouldn’t it have been 26 picks? It’s doing my head in.

4 academy/FS. Ashcroft, Kako, Lombard, Marshall.

North handing Richmond Pick's 1 and 2 next year, just amazing.

North have way too much talent to not improve from a cellar dwellar.

I reckon they push fringe top 8 and land about 10th. Could be wrong though

I hope Whitlock can play, they paid a stupid amount to get him.

Of course, in true North fashion, Matt won't even be the best player in his family.

Let’s just hope he goes better than the Liam Stocker disaster one that Carlton did. These f1 trades are fraught with danger

That’s ****ing putrid North.
The 2nd rounder they get from us is likely to be the first pick of the 2nd round next year so it’s not all that bad.

Even North fans wouldn’t say they could go that high but agree even if it’s not wins they should improve

I think they look at it and say “shit we wish we had a better and more stable environment for those kids to come into”.

Nope, that is the crazy thinking that gets you into huge trouble.
Overrating their own judgement. Maybe he will become an absolute star but no one knows yet.
That’s irresponsible

How have they overrated their own judgement?

At this stage all they’ve done is back their judgment in.

Right now we simply don’t know whether they’ve got themselves into huge trouble. They may have, but we’ll only know that in the fullness of time.

we would've been better off asking for 27 and 28 instead of 27 and future second

then taken both whitlocks if we wanted

Nah Tigers know they have you bent over a barrel.

They'll ask for your 2026 first rounder for it.

Not going to happen.

They won 2 games in 2024, 3 the year before. Melbourne finished 14th and won 11 games.

Maybe after 5 years of being ****ing terrible and nobody caring, the expectation to actually be good might help North.
No it won’t they will still suck and we and others are going to look like idiots for not doing that deal that Richmond did. Tigers already were getting an A and they turned it into an A+.

can't trade 2026 picks this year

tigers didnt need to pick tomorrow

27 and 28 for our f1 would've been more beneficial for both sides than the f2

Don't underestimate Brady.

He will find a way.

They expected 6-8 wins internally in 2024.
