That 2nd and 4th trade shows why keeping every small ounce of currency is important. We're a couple pick positions away from being able to get that 27 or 28 from our 36 and 50. Keep a little more currency, or do a little more in our trades and then bang we're in a far better position.
That's ridiculous that you can trade picks on draft night before it's time to take the pick.
ie. Brisbane shouldn't be able to trade pick 27 on draft night until the first 26 picks have been used. Want to trade out pick 27, do it during trade week or wait!

We love to double tap a player type at the draft. Wouldn’t be surprised if we go for Tom Gross tomorrow.
We absolutely can't be going another small forward. We have too many on the list. No point trading for Richards and giving up a heap for Berry of we keep going to the well. We need to be getting the best players to fill our other needs.

They had two ridiculous draft hauls.

Hodge, Lewis and Mitchell in one. Buddy and Roughead in another.
2001 Hodge #1 and Mitchell #20
2004 Roughead #2 Franklin #5 Lewis #7

2005 they got Ellis #3 because they again had a pre round 1 priority pick like 2004. Plus drafted Birchall at 14 - our pick for Motlop which we gave direct to Hawks rather than via North as Hawks wanted and got 2 first round picks for Hay trade to Norf.

I’d stay away from the key forwards from now on. If they were any good, they would have been picked up.

This was always a smalls draft. I think some forward were hyped for being stand outs from an average bunch.
Think the idea of a key forward often outweighs the logical thinking like this. I can understand it though, Luko is no certainty, Marshall could be gone soon, Lord unlikely to make it. So we have players there, but there could well be a hole there very soon we're all desperate to fill.

No problem with Berry.

Does seem a little strange that we skipped on Reid. He's exactly what we need. Gun mid that could play as a small forward.

But the fact that we did that trade is just crazy. Clearly WCE called our bluff. We telegraphed we wanted Berry, they call us up and say give us 45 or we will take him, we get sucked in and bang we lost a decent pick in the draft.
Im not sure Reid could play as a small forward? Dont get me wrong i prefer Reid but he looked exclusively a mid to me.

Brothers, I still cannot get over Collingwood stalking what we'd do with #13 along with Gold Coast apparently turning down every trade offer in the world for it for us to only move it up one pick.
To be fair Freo and GWS seemed desperate for it, the problem was we were just as desperate to take the exact player they wanted with the pick.

Had we not wanted Berry I feel we couldve got something very decent for it.

Personally I think goal kicking mids, that kick them in contest, not just running in from 50, make great small forwards. And in today's congested forward lines their ball winning becomes really important. Also I Think specialist small forwards need to have a lot of tricks to succeed.

If West Coast traded their pick to Fremantle then Fremantle get Berry and Port get Bo Allen. So then West Coast lose out on getting Bo Allen. So can anyone explain to me why they would consider doing that? And if there is not explanation, why did we give them our pick?
West Coast probably knew we werent after Bo Allen. For Allen to slide the way he did im guessing most clubs saw him as a flight risk? He was predicted as high as 6 and rumoured not to get past richmond at 12 if he got there.

We have enough small forwards only problem is apart from Rioli and sometimes DBJ the rest are shit.
Instead of getting rid of some of them we keep them even moving Jed onto the main list.

We somehow end up with another small forward with the Dan deal and then trade up to get another small forward.
A couple of undernourished half back flankers would just top it off nicely tomorrow night.

From what I’ve seen of Allen in the WAFL he doesn’t stand out.
Can’t understand the hype on him.

Moraes will be a good chance at pick 33 if Whitlock doesn't get through. I think Twomey has linked him to us as well.

Hes the type that Hawthorn would try and steal off us in a few years. Outside mid with a good kick.

Gerryn will get to pick 38 and even then its probably not the right pick.
