List Mgmt. 2024 AFLW trade and draft

It appears that not only are there no future picks but also no live pick trading at the AFLW draft. I think that means there's no chance of us splitting our first pick. Which in turn means we're going to get a great player. If O'Hehir is gone, Fish could be available. Whoever we get should be a ripper.
Still interested in McDonald if O'Hehir is gone. Tall, strong, athletic.

Good. This isn’t the men’s where there’s a thought on splitting. Top 5 picks you take them you need quality

If we could slide back 2-3 picks for a decent second rounder, I think that deserves serious consideration. With players like McDonald, Scholz, Riggs and Belloni mostly likely to still be available, that would be well worth considering. But I'm not sad to hold the pick either.

According to this - https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/news/1263082/sarah-blacks-draft-late-mail-who-will-your-club-pick - there is no chance O'Hehir will still be there and we won't take Fish if she is available. However, we are a strong chance to take Rasheed. There doesn't seem much risk that Rasheed will be gone before our pick. Otherwise we'll have our pick of all those other players I just listed above or, potentially, Painter.

I have something on tomorrow night so I won't be following live but will be excited to check in about 9 pm and see what's happened. I won't be surprised if the entire draft is over and 60 players have been selected even if that could never happen with the men.

See I can’t agree rated trade the other way than down. We need QUALITY not quantity. I like Rasheed as our selection

From The Age:

Draft picks: 4, 58, 76, 94, 112, 130
The Swans have their eye on midfielder Rasheed as they look to gain more strength inside the contest. If Rasheed goes before then, O’Hehir or Belloni would be excellent choices.

Rasheed the worst flight risk ever apparently, which is a bummer. Don't want to waste a pick only for her to bail home.
I think this is very important to understand. It’s one thing the draft officially being national. It’s another thing for the culture of the competition to shift accordingly.

Unlike its male counterpart, the AFLW remains a part-time competition. Players need a life away from football. It is much harder to take a reluctant teenager and get them to feel a part of the club and quickly instill a sense of belonging than it is with the men. It’s also harder to contract them for a few years so they get the time to feel at home away from home.

Many of these young women will be excited by the chance to move interstate. But many won’t.

And both the Crows and Port look like being strong sides for the next couple of years, meaning the lure home will be strong and the chance of getting a high draft pick back will be low.

SA Clubs - they just wait and lowball every single time. Very annoying.

We will bid on Harris (Bidney strikes again) I must say I like the look of Scholz but feel we still need more scoring power down front which should take a priority.

You make a good point and I think we need to use our first round pick wisely with this reality in mind. Targeting a player who would be attracted to attending university in Sydney has worked well with Montana although not sure if there are any top prospects who have that particular interest.

That interview was hard to gauge. Zippy seemed very unexcited about coming to us, body language as she sat down looked a bit negative. Could just be her as she does seem to be one of those reserved, country girl types.

On the plus side, Dad is going to come across to help her settle in so clearly as a family they knew she could be picked up by an interstate club and accepting of this. Zippy is also doing a PE teaching degree so could benefit from our partnership with UNSW (although she is deferring for first 6 months).

My gut feeling is that our on field performance will determine whether she stays with us long term or not.

Not sure what she expected. It's not like the WA clubs had a surfeit of picks in the top 20.

No doubt she's a good player. Just would have preferred McDonald so that we had at least one tall target. Love Privitelli but gee we ask an awful lot of her. I guess we'll be using tall Hamilton and Davies a lot.

Na take the superior talent, reaching in the top 4/5 especially in this league is asking for trouble.
