Coach 2024 Coaching Structure – McQualter replacing Yze

With Yze gone, Stafford and Choco both apparently re-signed, and Chaplin rising in the ranks, what do we think our coaching lineup will look like next year? Who are the best options to come in and what roles should change?

For mine, I'd be keen to see Stafford move to being a ruck/stoppages coach, Chaplin to midfield/strategy, Choco maybe forward line coach (incorporating goal kicking), and then recruit for backline coach. Although that all depends on who is available and what their strengths are. Forward line obviously the biggest need, but strategy will be a crucial one as well IMO.

Who can we get? What moves can we make?

Midfield and strategy/game day - But question marks over if he was totally in control of strategy/game day or if it was more like his area to analyze but then decisions by the coaching group.

Yze basically said in his presser he'll be trying to get him to Richmond

Ratten would be good for mids. Former senior coaches are usually a great asset as assistants and he has a terrific record.

is highly rated and was a smart forward. Believe he's at Essendon, would be a good get if we could prise him out as a forward coach and senior assistant.

Yeah, he was put up for some assistant award too recently right?

Not so much that he's not rated, just that he's been around a long time and has been critical in getting the players to buy in defensively - but what we need right now is more fluency with the ball. For me, this will happen with new ideas or voices.

As much as people want to smack us for our ball movement this year, let's remember how we went out in 2018, how we backed up in 2019, and the whole 'bees to the honeypot' game style.

Yeah, AFLCA assistant of the year last year. Premiership winning assistant, has been considered for senior jobs. Pretty good resume if it was someone we were looking at recruiting to fix our issues.

We'll get a new assistant or two anyway, but I don't think you have to get someone new to get new ideas.

That's fair, but since then we've also fixed various strategic areas - namely back half turnovers and crowding stoppages.
