But a trade with you blokes would have to involve 10 in some capacity so we can take Lindsay. (You would imagine)

I’d be perfectly happy swapping 7,8 for 6,10.

We take Smillie at 6 and Lindsay at 10.

I know a lot of people are complaining about Adding Lalor, Allan and Smillie into our midfield would make us slow, but their ball winning and defensive capabilities mitigate this.

Look at Sydney a few years ago with Keiran Jack, Tom Mitchell, Luke Parker and Josh Kennedy. They weren't very quick midfield but they were a very good midfield unit because they could all win their own ball, and worked hard to shut down the contest, not allowing teams to explode from the contest.

Reckon we will try to model this as well.

There any chance we have tapped Smillie up to play well within his capabilities in the 2nd half of the season? If we overlook higher performing mids for him that theory will gain some weight with me.

No chance.
Though he did have some injury and illness issues latter part of the season, before he came good in the last couple of games. Fit he would have averaged very close to 30 disposals in CTL, most with good decision making and execution. Puts him up there.

If we pass on Smillie at 6 for Allan..then he 100% goes next pick to saints. That is an absolute certainty. For someone who was touted pick 1 for majority of the year, this seems absurd.

According to Twomey, Smillie, Allen and Travaglia are the three possibilities at 6.

Saints have pick 8 for sale. I wonder if we could use 18 and 20 to buy it and guarantee ourselves at least two (possibly all three) of the above three players?

The only thing that worries me about Smilie is his Contested Mark. He took 1 for an entire year against other 18 year olds.

He takes solid marks, but not pack marks. Neither does Cripps or Dusty or Buddy for that matter.
