jagga is the best player in the draft. If we somehow manage to miss out on him with our draft hand, then we'll have officially returned to the dark days. another 3 plus decades in the wilderness.
Jagga is just a better version of Dow and Langford is just a better version of Hopper these are 2 players we must avoid or we will be back in the dark days imo.

That's how I was saying it but I think Tough and Darth are right if it is pronounced the same as the place
Even the way the place is pronounced isn’t super consistent

The guy who it was named after was pronounced law-ler but the common way to say the place these days is lay-lor but both get thrown around

Langford looks like a clone of Pendlebury from pies the game just stops for him class not sure what your watching

Looks like Essendon have amassed way too many points for a bid on Kako if a bid comes in around the expected range of 8-11.

So their picks 28 & 31 should be on the table to trade out. They will want to get back into the first round after a bid on Kako.

Let's say one of the players that's high on their board has slipped and is available at pick 18.

Would we entertain sliding pick 18 to 28 and take one of their F1's for the privilege? Or is that unrealistic from the Bombers perspective?

28 & 31 will go when the bid happens though. If we did it before the bid then 18 gets used.

I'm expecting there to be plenty of similar opportunities for us. Just a case of picking the best deal at each opportunity.
Slide a pick and gain a future first - then possibly slide again for future second.
End up picking up Sam Davidson or other speculative flanker types with later picks - there will still be quality deep in this draft.

lol not this s*** again. He’s basically the same height as FOS
Nothing to do with his height. Lachie Neale is shorter but has core and hip strength to break tackles.
The question is whether Jagga can put on the size and strength to apply defensive pressure to others and stand up or maintain balance when physical pressure is applied to him and reaches him far more often than in juniors.
Other prospects have different questions on them. Depends on how you weigh the risks.

Personally, I'd go FOS first, then Jagga with pick 2 if we get it, then whichever of Lalor/Draper/Langford/Smillie with pick 6.
This probably means we lose 10&11 and a chance at a couple out of Travalgia/Lindsay/Allan/Berry.
Can still look at Cooper Hynes, Jesse Datolli around 18 or so, along with Shanahan, J Whitlock, Faull, etc.
Fair chance of Berry or Hotton still available at that selection also.

Can't work out what trading to Port gets us and can you imagine the response here if the offer was the other way around, we'd tell them to ggf. Giving up a second round pick for moving three whole places.
It's not about moving three places. It's about getting ahead of rivals for the player they want. In this case, supposedly to get ahead of West Coast and beat them to Travaglia.

B: Trezise Young ??????
HB: ?????? Blight ??????
C: McIntosh Dow ??????
HF: Bauer Fawcett ??????
F: ?????? Gray ??????
R: Ryan Prestia ??????
INT: Hayes-Brown Colina ?????? ?????? ??????

I know I've posted the depth chart before and I think it's worth posting again along with a current best possible 23 & VFL Line Up using just players on our list at present so we can see where the holes are in the list and where we should be focusing in terms of addressing them with our picks at 10, 11, 18, 20, 23 & 24.

When looking at the above the first thing I want to point out is that obviously not all the ?????? will be filled by draftees. We should add at least 7 but my preference would be to take all 8 picks, the question that needs to be answered is whether we do that by holding the picks that we currently have or we make some trades where we might trade for a combination of F1 & later picks in this draft by using some of our picks at 18, 20, 23 & 24 to do so.

The next thing that stands out is that our KPP/Ruck stocks while plentiful in number aren't necessarily a strong group. Nankervis Lynch & Balta are proven players, but the rest have question marks against their names for various reasons, so IMO we should be looking at taking a KPP & ruck in the draft

Finally the issue that is causing the most discussion on the board and that is the type of midfield talent that we target. There is a strong push for us to go and get Lalor & FOS at 1 & 2 and there is certainly merit in that approach. However my belief is that we target the player we believe will be the best of those 2 and then look at addressing the lack of outside class that we're missing.

When you look at the outside midfield group, it's Ralphsmith Banks & Sonsie with McIntosh who should be a break glass in an emergency player next year. Campbell and Clarke who I have as forwards at the moment could both become outside midfielders in time, but that shouldn't stop us from looking to add more depth to that area. The inside midfield group is stronger & deeper with everyone bar Prestia capable of being part of the side for the next 5+ years, yes I'm including Dow in that much to the displeasure of some no doubt.

For me if we were to hold our current picks then I'd like to see us target these midfielders in order

1. Smith - inside/outside mid
2. Draper - inside/outside mid
3. Lalor - mid/forward
4. FOS - mid/forward
5. Smillie - inside mid
6. Reid - mid/forward
7. Allan - defender/mid
8. Travaglia - defender/mid
9. Hotton - forward/mid
10. Lindsay - inside/outside mid

With picks 23 & 24 I would then target the best available KPF & ruck on the board at that point. Hopefully Dodson is there as the ruck and we could then look at one of the Whitlocks or Faull or maybe trade that pick out for a F1 and possibly a later pick in this draft to get a look at someone like Sims Gerryen Nicholls.

Now I know that the above isn't everyone's preferred option, but that's the beauty of the board, everyone has slightly different opinions about how they would do things with our draft hand. Between picks 1, 6, 10, 11 18 & 20 I believe we could land at least 4 if not 6 of those midfielders and that would allow us to really fill out the list and give us a better balanced midfield mix heading into 2025.

It's also worth pointing out that many consider us to be locks for the spoon in 2025 and a kid like Dyson Sharp who is another big bodied midfielder tipped to be in contention for the first pick next year could very well make up for not putting all our eggs into the FOS/Lalor basket that many seemingly want us to do this year and unlike a lot of posters who seem to only focus on the current draft crop, I'm sure our recruiters will have their minds also looking at the bigger picture when it comes to the list build.

Probably right for 2024, but will he be the best player 2028 & beyond?
Bingo

It’s all about looking at what positions they will be able to play in the future as well

Jagga will essentially be a full time mid, very handy to have but when we think about the very best players in the comp it’s the guys who can be both mids and threats up forward

They provide versatility and the ability to change key match ups and ultimately win you games best case scenario it comes down to

Would you prefer a Lachie Neale or Butters vs a Dustin Martin, Fyfe or Heeney

As soon as I posted my previous mock I started with my doubts. I’ve added back in trades and based some selections on rumours that are circulating.

So here’s yet another mock draft to be taken apart.

Pick 1 - Richmond - Sam Lalor - why? Seems as if the jungle drums are all beating in this direction.

Pick 2 - Brisbane - Levi Ashcroft (matched bid)

Pick 3 - North Melbourne - Alix Tauru - why? North unlikely to find a suitor that will give them back a pick + assets before someone else takes him.

Pick 4 - Carlton - Finn O’Sullivan - why? Best available and links abound

Pick 5 - Adelaide - Sid Draper - why? Local boy and best available

Pick 6 - Melbourne - Harvey Langford - why? Best midfielder available

Pick 7 - Richmond - Jagga Smith - Cal Twomey said that he was one of four in the race for pick 1; why I’ve moved him over Smillie.

Pick 8 - Saints - Josh Smillie - why? Best available. Wonder if Richmond trade up to get Smillie here?

Pick 9 - Essendon - Isaac Kako (matched bid)

Pick 10 - Suns - Leo Lombard (matched bid)

Pick 11 - Saints - Bo Allen - why? A few links to Allen to Saints.

Pick 12 - Melbourne - Cooper Hynes - why? Rumours have it that Melbourne are interested in Hynes. I think Hynes goes higher than most think regardless.

Pick 13 - Port Adelaide - Tobie Travaglia - why? In a move that gets 13 (pre bids) + F2 (and maybe a swap of Port’s F3 and Richmond’s F4) Port get ahead of the pack to select Travaglia, a possible Houston replacement.

Pick 14 - Richmond - Harry Armstrong - why? Best KPF available

Pick 15 - West Coast - Murphy Reid - why? - best available and Matt Clarke is known for taken good users that may not be the quickest (Sonsie, Banks).

Pick 16 - Richmond - Jack Whitlock - why? Long been linked. Interesting if they go 2x KPF in back-to-back picks, but also could be a KPD

Pick 17 - Fremantle - Xavier Lindsay - why? Not really in need for much, and best player available.

Pick 18 - Giants - Taj Hotton - why? GWS tend to draft high athlete types, and there’s some links to Hotton

Pick 19 - Giants - Alex Dodson - probably the biggest hole on the Giants list is ruck.

Pick 20 - Brisbane - Sam Marshall (matched bid).

Pick 21 - Western Bulldogs - Joe Berry - why? WB are pretty well covered, Berry the best available small forward

Pick 22 - North Melbourne - Jobe Shanahan - why? In a trade around North Melbourne’s F1, North get back in and trade for a CHF after taking a back with pick 2.

Pick 23 - Sydney - Jesse Dattoli - best available, and a high IQ player.

Pick 24 - Richmond - Jasper Alger - why? Seemingly garnering strong links with both Richmond and around the 20s.

Pick 25 - Essendon - Luke Trainor - why? In a trade that involves one of Essendon or Melbournes F1, Essendon trade into the draft and grab a KPD.

Pick 26 - Sydney - Tom Gross - why? Feels like a Sydney pick, athletic types that have midfield potential.

Pick 27 - Richmond - Hamish Davis - why? Richmond nabbing two mids, two KPP and a small forward; an outside runner may be the go.

Pick 28 - Geelong - Jonty Faull- why? In a trade around Geelong’s F1, Geelong trade into the draft and nab a KPF.

I’d prefer to see Richmond package up a few later picks to move up, but not involving pick six. If North accept that, great, if not (and I don’t think they will), I’d hope we’d target 7/8 from Saints as I think one of Langford/ Smilie and Jagga Smith will be there. The opportunity to grab two of those three may be hard to pass up.

Ultimately in this scenario Richmond’s haul will be Lalor, Smith, Armstrong, Jack Whitlock, Jasper Alger, Hamish Davis, Port R2, North F1 and Geelong F1.

North will accept 7 + F1 for 2 from St Kilda IMO

Horrible take. Probably the worst call since this thread has opened.

It depends how you look at it..... Fyfe is banged up as his that type. Dusty obviously had alot of off field stuff go wrong for him (not much of a leader). Heeney is way to hot & cold (goes missing in big finals). Heeney has been marked as the next Lethel for how long? His 29 in May...... Butters is consistent, quick & explosive. Neale is a leader & a ball magnet also stands up in finals.
Imo and obviously in the minority but I feel Jagga is the exact type we need. We DONT get hands to the ball first! Not since 2017 & peak dusty. We got mauled by Neale just waltzing it out of the middle in the 2022 EF, people have short memories and delusional thinking Lalor will be the next Dusty FMD lol. Dusty is a generational player! We will be shiaate for the next 4 years we need to go safe bet early then we can take risks with drafts later on. I'd be happy with FOS as pick 1 over Lalor to be honest.
