That trade makes no ****ing sense at all. We literally had pick 32 before we handed it to Brisbane and massively overpaid to get pick 20. Why would we be trading out one pick to get two shitter ones when we only have enough list spaces for our current picks.

It would make more sense if we were trading 18 and 20/23/24 to get 13.
Because if the guy you're picking at 10 is going to be there at 13, you're getting pick 29 for nothing.

That gives us the flexibility to trade out one of the other picks and still have enough to fill our eight list spots without using a rookie pick.

Who can North finish above? Their defence is putrid. Midfield is good but still very young. Not sure if adding an over the hill Parker to it will sort their problems. Darling is also just about cooked.

I have us last, WCE second last and North third last. Essendon probably round out the bottom four.
I can see North finishing above us, WCE and the Dons at an absolute minimum. Agreed their defence is a huge issue but it's not inconceivable they finish above Stk, Ade, Melb, Collingwood and Port, too.
Dons will finish last, imo.

That being said we all have nfi what'll happen next year but it would be pretty darn presumptuous to think North's F1 is an automatic top 5 pick; it'll fall around the 6-10 mark I reckon.

It’s all well and good but Richmond have said they could try Judson off half back to far better kick that Travaglia. Both have a high IQ, big engines.
Travaglia more superior runner than Judson. And like another poster brought up. Judson is a forward half player, we shouldn’t be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Judson more of a wing/HFF. Trav breaks lines off the back flank, kinda similar fashion to Dan Rioli tbh. Trav is more natural running off the back flank. Developing next to Vlastuin would turn him into an absolute weapon imo.

Wouldn’t be disappointed @ pick 10 or 11

Just watched a few vid's on James Barrat. He won the Pioneers best and fairest. He is 194cm but played midfield/forward in some games, kicked 22 goals in 13 games in the Coates League before going back and being named Rookie Me team of the year at Full back. This on top of missing his entire 2023 season.

Okay he looks and moves a bit like Rance, so maybe that got him the gig, but he seems to have some sort of upside. Looks a good pic around our 23 mark. Any one know more?

The pick swap could be something like this…
Pot give 13, 29 =1865
Get pick 11,23 = 2144

NM give pick 2 =2517
Get 10,18,F4 = 2587

Rich give: 10,11,18,23,F4
Get: 2,13,29

Rich = 1,2,6,13,,20,24,29
That makes no sense whatsoever. Port are making out like bandits. What’s the point of even including them in the trade above if North don’t end up with any of their picks?

Also the idea of Richmond turning 4 first round picks into 2 is horrendous and something we’d never do.

Ok hear me out.

As it stands we hold 1/3 of the picks in the first 24. So how do we cash in and get the best value?

Well let's look at the rumours

  • North wants to split pick 2 to get at least 2 picks in R1.
  • Saints looking to split pick 8 for multiple 1s.
  • Port interested in getting 10 off us as part of a multi team deal with 13 involved.
  • GWS possibly involved in the multi team trade and have 15 16 & 21 to deal with.

So here's my plan

FOOK EM ALL

Hold all our picks until the night of the draft and let North come to us when pick 2 is on the clock, desperately looking to trade and get pick 2, their F1 & F2 in 2025 to get pick 11 & 23. Take it or leave it.

Then, when the Saints are on the clock at pick 8 and are looking to trade the deal is pick 8 & 32 for 18 & 20

Now that we've got pick 8 we call GWS and tell them 10 & 24 is on the table for 15 16 & 37.

Essendon having matched a bid for Kako are looking at getting back into the draft and with Melbourne a good chance of fighting us for the spoon as they implode we want the Dees 2025 R1 for 16

Final draft hand is:
1 2 6 8 15 32 & 37 in 2024
1. Lalor
2. FOS
6. Smillie
8. Reid
15. Best Available KPP
32. Best Available KPP/Ruck
37. Davidson

Or North like a player in the 25-30 range (there’s some KPP who are tipped to go there) and pick 2 trade is as simple as 6 + 29 for 2…

Would love to see more of him. But the little I’ve seen and heard/read I’m a fan. November baby too.

Since we won’t get Tauru I’d love this kid as an intercepting defender.

So I’m not the only one who is pissed about handing the Lions too much for pick 20. We got bent over. We gave Brisbane the biggest points gain ever in the draft. I know I’m going to hear points don’t count bullshite but in this case they do.

If Richmond had not given Brisbane so many points, then to get Ashcroft they would have had to go into 2025 deficit. This would have left them with no points for Marshall and he’d have become available. The kid will be an absolute gun.

I keep hearing what a top negotiator Blair is but I also think we got unders for Bolton. Rioli and Baker were wins.

Lol I’m so glad posters on this board aren’t our list managers. Your complete focus to try and f every other club will ostracise RFC from the competition, and clubs will stop dealing with us.

Other real scenarios from the above:
-North say f you, take FOS at pick 2, then trades their F1 to GWS for pick 15/16 and takes the best KPP on the board (note - there’s plenty!). NM are paying overs, but it’s still a far better deal than what RFC had proposed.

-StK then say f you, we are absolutely more than happy with 7 & 8, why are we paying overs to trade down? Much like RFC, StK are in an incredible draft position and would only need to trade if it’s mutually beneficial to them.

-GWS have already taken the far better trade option of pick 15/16 for Norths F1, so that deal is off the table.

-We don’t have pick 16, so we’d need to offer pick 18 for Melbs F1 with the bombers. This might be the only deal to happen.

Then, when the dust settles, Richmond is left with the exact same hand as when the trade period ended sans pick 18, all because of our giant egos and inability to come to a mutually beneficial trade arrangement… (which hey, I’m not arguing isnt a bad position to be in…)

Actually the last line should be our plan period. We already pretty well have the perfect draft hand. Just keep and use the picks we have except for the last two which we use to trade into next year’s first round.

Of course if Norf with their begging bowl comes to us naturally we listen. But we inform them that we are happy with our draft hand, if they want an extra first rounder they will be ones that will have to pay a premium for the trade not us.

The fact we refused the West Coast offer of pick 3 for Baker and 11 is instructive. This draft is deep and strong.

The ball is squarely in Norf’s court to make something happen. We’re fine either way.

I think if we were going to select Davidson we would have done so in the MSD. Little chance we pick him up in the ND I'd say.
This GIF is slightly overused but can't see a better use for it than here...

Probably in the rookie draft if we have any spots left

May as well do the footy for 5-10 years and then do the doctoring after that
CTE much more of a concern if your brain actually has the capability to support you throughout a whole career with (on average) a higher earning capacity then what he’d get from football

There was a relatively early pick player at West Coast that had delayed medical school and then packed in his footy career after one concussion from memory

I think Davidson would be a riskier pick from that personal point of view on concussion and it affecting his life which would be much different to the everyday footy player
