Just finished watching it, why in the **** would we do that lol, this guy just lost all credibility. He spent a chunk of time saying how shit next years draft is looking then pulls this doozy.
I don’t think that’s a bad deal. We could end with 2 top 10 picks in 2025 but Richmond will assess the offers v the player we have listed as best at that pick.

I’m not sure we should be overly worried about getting ‘fast’ midfielders in the pure sense of the word.

Quick hands, agility and decision making are far more important than leg speed.

None of Voss, Black, Lappin or Power were really quick (Aker was).

None of Sam Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Shiels or Sewell were quick.

None of Cotchin, Dusty, Graham, Prestia or Edwards were super quick (Bolton is)

Swans won a flag with a midfield led by Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker, Bolton, Hanneberry, Jack …

I’d say quite a few top end draftees who’ve been failures is because they were dominant at junior level due to speed and explosiveness, (Tambling, Dow to name a couple) but it’s largely irrelevant at AFl level if it’s not accompanied by great decision making and/or good ball use…. plus most importantly courage and hardness!

Many players who test really well in the 20m sprint look slow on field as they don’t have great agility or core strength so cannot break tackles.

So I’m not saying to ignore leg speed, but I am saying it’s far less important overall than hardness, desperation, decision making, ball use, core strength and agility.

If we acquire pick 2 from North at the expense of pick 6, does it really matter?

By that point we would have selected our highest two rated mids, and can then look at other needs if we want at 10/ 11.

The premium we place on pick 6 lessens if we hold pick 2 in my opinion.

1. Lalor/ FOS
2. Lalor/ FOS
10. Shanahan/ Armstrong
11. Travaglia/ Lindsday/ Hotton

Given we would have picked mid/ mid at 1+2 .. I feel like we will likely be getting the same player at 10 as we would at 6 (assuming we don't go another mid in the shape of Langford/ Smillie)

In summary, no issues giving up 6 and keeping 10 + 11.
It does matter if you think picks 2-7 are pretty equal. This could be the club’s decision and why we are not offering 6 as part of a trade.

I've known this guy since our kids went to childcare, kindie and primary school together. Used to be really close, drifted since different high schools. He's a straight shooter and I've wiped the floor with him at cards plenty of times. He even said their night is basically Camporeales and they're hoping it goes their way for their 1st pick but pretty happy with the evenness of the top handful but wasn't giving anything away. Once their pick 3 is selected their draft is basically over waiting for bids and he had no ulterior motive to bull💩 me.

Hey it's all a crap shoot. Nobody knew Fyfe, Bont, Cripps would turn out having the careers they had. Who knows which teams get most focussed on and ignored by our recruiters. Wasn't long ago it seemed we'd basically only take kids from Northern Knights, St Pats, WA team? Ellis and Menadue flops from Western Jets ruled them out. We started taking Oakleigh kids. Always wondered if our recruiters bother watching Geelong Falcons as they're top 3 for most kids drafted and don't think we've ever taken any?

Yeh Nah because you didn't get pick 3 and RFC left with whatever falls at 6. Could be Langford. As mentioned previously a combination of Lalor and Langford would be an unmitigated failure when you add Hopper and Prestia to that midfield.

Tigers are desperate for 2 but trying to make out like they don't care.

Seriously. Most of the board has him on ignore at this time of year. All these trade scenarios seem to mess with an already troubled mind.

Was at a barbie for the races had an interesting chat with an old friend who's a talent scout at the Bloose. He was pretty straight faced and matter of fact when talking about Lalor, FOS, Draper, Smith. He was getting pretty pickled and told me a few interesting tidbits. He LOVES Smillie and reckons we'd be stupid to trade for pick 2. I thought I was smart and asked if he'd let the cat out of the and they're taking Smillie, he said they reckon Cripps is that professional and dedicated if he avoids serious injury he will overtake Craig Bradley's games record so the timings and draft hands don't allign.

He reckons Langford will be the slider who might even fall outside the top 15. Same as Trainor he reckons clubs are spooked big ti.e over his concussions and i was shocked when he rattled off all the retirements. He says he wouldnt touch him inside the top 30 as already too risky. He said the most overrated player is Tauru and its only North hedging their bets as he's a swing man and if he's available at 6 Tigers wouldn't take him and rattled off all the reasons Shanahan and Armstrong are better. He reckons if no pick swaps happen we'll take 2 mids with 1st 2 picks and reckons Smillie at 6 is a steal. Also reckons travaglia is over rated. He said Ashcroft is universally considered the best player in the draft. Also reckons Lombard will get bid on very early in the draft in the top 8 and should be top 5. Was spewing we barely got started talking about the talls and kept getting interrupted by the races and his Mrs who hates footy talk. He was running interesting hypotheticals with who blinks 1st with taking talls but kept losing his train of thought.

He's convinced Saints take 1 KPF, was pretty sure Melbourne take 2 mids. Wowee the gossip about Melbourne. Theyre a rabble and gonna implode. I might check their odds for bottom 4 next year lol. He said Port Adelaide will take best available. Reckons GWS are hard to read and antisocial. Also said Vic clubs have all been lobbying against GC academy, he reckons they've got a production line of 12, 13, 14, 15 yo's coming through and they want change before 2025 draft but reckon the AFL will be forced to act after it. He said Freo were filthy on us as we wouldn't budge ensuring WCE get Bo Allen. This guy our kids went to school together and after the Shai Bolton draft wouldn't shut up about how he fought for Bolton over Fisher but the go home factor was the decider. He reckons Bolton is gonna go berserk in Freo and is backing him for the Brownlow.

I'm catching up with him again hopefully before the draft as I'm dying to pick his brains just got to get my ex to run interference talking about kids schooling and shopping and chick bollocks for me lol. If I get him Johnnie Walker Blue he'll let me watch some of his footage (on mute 🤬) I will say this I'm shocked by how unsuccessful the Blues are by how well they look after their employees/ players/ past players/ families.

Great info, thanks .

At this stage I reckon Blair is saying to North that we don’t actually rate pick-2 much ahead of pick-6, as any one of those high quality mids could be better than the other. So while of course we’d have our preference, I genuinely think he’s got the attitude to North that we are not fussed, 6 or 2, Jagga or Langford, Draper or Smillie, FOS or Lalor ….doesn’t matter to us. And in fact it removes a lot of pressure, as we just select whomever is left at 6.

In other words, if we do 6 and 11 for 2 and a F1, to us it’s really just 11 for a F1. So we miss a highly sought after player in a really strong draft, for a lottery ticket in 2025 - might be pick-2, might be pick-8. Might be a strong draft, might be a weak draft. Might have no quality KPP’s at our picks. We also lose 12-months of development.

So I do think if we genuinely rate someone higher than the others at the top end, we’d do 6 and 11 for 2 and a F1. But if we don’t then it’s not surprising to hear pick-6 won’t be part of a deal for 2.

So if rumours are true of trying to do 10 for 13 and 29 from Port, I think this is the play.

North have rejected 10 and 11 for 2 and a F1.

But North will accept 11, 13 and 29 for 2 and a F1. It is overs, but North get 3 x picks in the top-30 instead of 1 in a super deep draft. And not sure what we are allowed to do, but we’d throw in a F3 or F4.

So we end up with:

1,2,6,18,20,23,24 and a F1.

North trade 2 and a F1 for 11, 13, 29 and a F4.

Port trade 13 and 29 for 10, guaranteeing them their preferred player.

If Blair can pull that off he’s a genius … effectively 10, 11 and a F4 for 2 and a F1.

Reckon this is a good point. Robert Harvey was not that fast but no one could catch him. It's how the bloke plays, and how the team plays too.

Both Dusty and Cotch could 180 turning to their right. A combo of strength, agility and smarts can do more than just speed. Menadue was quick, but wanted for too much else.

Fascinating topic.

I'm bored, so I'm playing around, my personal preference is we just keep all our picks unless we get some kind of ridiculous offer.

Not trading any combination of pick 6 for pick 2.
No offering Pick 24 unless it's only for a future pick of decent value.

Everyone here seems to think the Roos will just hand us pick 2 for nothing lol

If we aren't giving up pick 6, so we have to give something, will take multiple picks, 10 & 11 isn't going to cut it, won't get them a pick high enough for Tauru and 2 picks won't give them any room to trade up so they won't give up pick 2.

What do you suggest we offer for pick 2 and keep pick 6 & 24? Just curious.

Trade 10 for 13 and 29 from Port, creating a 3-way trade to facilitate : 11, 13, 29 and a F4 for 2 and a F1 - Roos are desperate.

They need KPP’s … 11,13,29 gets them two or three of Tauru, Trainor, Armstrong, Shanahan, Faull, Dodson, Whitlock’s. They can’t keep waiting on KPP’s … no free agents want to go there and no quality players want to be traded there … it’s the draft of bust for KPP’s and they can’t afford to wait another year to get started developing them.

Clarko is desperate and the Roos will cave - it may not be to us but they’ll drop their pants in a trade for pick-2.

Ok cool, I don't mind it, managed to keep 23 and obtain Nth's future 1st.

Also agree with North needing to stop thinking getting Tauru is the answer and look at all the KPP's available.
