Pretty good. Seems likely we’ll end up with 2 of FOS, Lalor, Smith regardless if North splits their pick. Perhaps the players we drafted with our later picks are too tall, would much rather Berry or Hotton at 13 instead of reaching for Shannahan.
Agree about that pick 13. Think our first 4 should be mids/smaller types (based on all the phantoms so far) then target some value in the talls later Faull, Gerreyn, Whitlock etc later.

Something like Lalor, Smillie, Bo Allan/Lindsay, Hotton/Berry, Faull, Gerreyn/Whitlock, maybe another runner and a trade for F1 or 2 trades for F1.

Wtf is this obsession with us taking so many talls? Have I missed a memo somewhere or something? Yeah we need a developing key forward but f*** me.

This seems the first year that the mock drafts really don’t have any idea of which players are being picked where. They all have groups of players either top 6-7, next batch to 18 or so and then the rest to 30.

With 8 picks it’s easy for journalists to assume we will take a mix of all players- key forwards, defenders, ruck and mid.

My view is we will take 6 players early and trade out 2 picks into next year (likely 20&24). This may see us with a pick later in 30s or 40s.

I also don’t see us getting similar players but ones that compliment each other- eg don’t think we’re taking Lalor, Smillie & Langford- just 1 of them.

What I’d like us to do (admittedly with a fair bit of luck):
1- Lalor
6- Jagga
10- Smillie
11- Lindsay
18- Shanahan
20- Berry (or trade out)
23- Trainor
24- Hannaford (or trade out)

If we get Smillie at 6 I’m steering clear of Allen at 10/11. Only need one 190+cm mid that needs to build a tank. Also if you think Smith has questionable disposal enter Allen.

The issue with taking 6 is the quality of players we have lost. We need to take 7-8 to have any chance of replacing the 5-6 club legends we’ve lost.

1. Lalor
6. Langford
10. Lindsay
11. Berry/Hotton
18. Oliver
20. Gerreyn
23. Jacques
24. Best of the rest or trade.

Some serious talent in the mids, forwards, backs/wings. All excellent kicks, might be a bit lacking in speed but they make up for it in being game breakers, ie; impactful, plus they're leaders. They all have some serious upside.

Target those proven KPF's, Rucks and KPD's through trades, we're going to have access to 2 years of future picks next year and the year after, plus the ability to buy picks with our outrageous bank. Trading for KPP's wouldn't be easier.

There's no point in targeting talls this year, use the picks to build game breakers. I don't see any of the talls being that type, apart from Gerreyn.
Great Strategy - focus on Game Breakers - Gerreyn stands out in Physical terms in the U18 but I do not think that when he plays in the VFL/AFL he will exert such influence. He certainly does not have the mobility of a Buddy Franklin that some one has suggested - Davidson perhaps ?

We have to target players that are elite by foot, Allan is very 'iffy' with his disposals, Hotton also has knocks on his kicking. Lindsay and Berry are light years ahead of those two with their kicking ability, Gerreyn too. Faull is another that projects as a 2nd or 3rd tall forward. Have a look at Harrison Oliver, bloke is probably in the top 3 for kicking.

I like Oliver too in the 18-24 picks if we were to take 7 kids.

For an inside mid I'd take Allan's combativeness and pace. Think his kicking will improve as his midfield craft does with experience.

Hotton I think has a better aerial game and ball winning ability through midfield than Berry. Berry reminds me a bit of Judson tbh. I'd almost add Hannaford in here too. Lacks a bit of polish but super powerful and competitive.

Top 6 nationwide in agility.

3.156 in the 20m, not bad for a 200cm, 100kg bloke

Is dual sided, I can't think of any KPF's like that, maybe Tex Walker, he's 7cm taller than Tex

Can roost a goal from 60m = Gold

Can Ruck

Is a leader and has a bit of mongrel.

This bloke could well be the best player to come out of this draft, the only knock on him is his tank. That can be sorted in a professional environment.

Give me another example of a kid that has this blokes attributes.

Do we need Allan? Lalor and Smillie fit that bill.

Those picks at 10 & 11 are what will make us or break us

North conceded 410 points in their last 3 games after they beat us, IMO it was because they were hoping that we'd somehow stuff it up and get a win in the last game.

I am thinking off the top of my head, we could trade 6 at 6 for 7 and 8 as well as 32 and give Saints pick 11 as well
Wtf are you talking about?

You would think that Jagga playing 3 games at VFL level against men where he averaged 27 disposals 12 contested possessions 6 clearances 14 ground ball gets & 2 tackles would prove that he can mix it with mature bodies, but apparently not.
You would of thought so but apparently no...
Maybe he ran out of puff the next game!?

1. Lalor
6. Langford
10. Lindsay
11. Shanahan
18. Oliver or another tall
20. As above
23/24 trade into next year

2 aggressive mids that can also play forward and take a mark.
Lindsay the classy mid that can start at half back or wing
Shanahan a hard working forward that can take a mark and provide a contest
Oliver - someone to take the kick outs for the next 12 years that can also defend well but set up attacks with disposals
Another tall - best available big man to develop.
Would also be interested in Reid if Lindsay’s not available, Smillie or Allan if we don’t take Langford but prefer Langford.

Lalor and Smillie don't have Allan's speed. Who do you like at those 2 picks?
Allan has speed, but he's like a headless chook when it comes to delivering the ball. I do think though that some of those players that have that speed do suffer with their ability to hit up targets, they're going so fast that ball delivery is difficult. Look at Langford or Reid who aren't fast but they give themselves time to dish off the ball precisely.

Lindsay at 10 would be ideal, I don't think he'll get there but he reminds me so much Jordan Dawson, almost clones. I know that everyone wants a KPF, but I just don't rate any of them, I'm probably on my own here as I don't see any of them being the sort of players that you can build a forward line around, there's better to be had through trading and FA. Pick 11 is the difficult one, Hotton seems like the logical choice, but I'm suss on his kicking, he's identified it as well, maybe he's a bit like like Allan and just doesn't give himself time to execute. Maybe Reid is worth a shot here if he slides
