take Lalor and FOS, I am less confident about some of the others and I like some of the options with later picks and being later, less risk as value is not as great in terms of investment, with deep draft more bang for buck

other clubs have to make selections but RFC, being where we are at, are able to look a little longer term with some options a little later, if the cost is less the risk to us falls as we are looking longer term with more flexibility in terms of our path and projections

If I was RFC, and we had 6 I would pick Tauru for sure, no doubt it, which North do not want I assume
Alright who’s hacked magics account

This post is coherent with sound reasoning so definitely not our OG boy magic

If Smith is available at 6, we're taking him.

Holding 6 is a play for Smith, with Smillie as the backup.

If we don't rate Smith, we'll trade 6+18 for pick 2 and take Lalor+FOS.

we could have traded Shai for 10 & 18
Baker & 10 for 3

Taken Lalor & FOS and kept 18

Instead we now have 10 11 18

I can't see us including 6 for any deal thats 2 alone, if we want 2 alone it will be for 10&11
only way i can see 6 going is if Norths f1 is included in the deal

you know who we need in a trade for 2?? We need North to agree with whatever deal gets decided

I doubt Jagga Smith slides to 6, and for it to be possible, I think we would have to force North to use pick 2 and take Tauru.
But just imagine:

1) Lalor
6) Smith
10) Smillie
11) Armstrong
Late teens/early 20s) Shanahan/Faull/Gerreyn
Late teens/early 20s) Berry/Hannaford/Alger/Hotton
Trade whatever's left to the future.

  • 3 midfielders with very different skillsets. Lalor - attacking, X factor, power. Smith - endurance, extractor, accumulator. Smillie - presence, midfield height and grunt
  • 2 Key Talls. Armstrong - mobile and athletic key forward who plays deep. Shanahan/Faull/Gerreyn - physical key forards/
  • 1 Small forward

Because someone will probably grab him next year if he does want out.
If I'm Cadman, I'm milking as many years out of the GWS premiership tilt as possible before coming home.

What clubs both need, and can afford him next year?

Carlton have Curnow and McKay. Don't need.

Dogs have JUH Darcy Naughton. Don't need.

Collingwood need, but can't afford (traded F1)

Hawthorn need, but can't afford (traded F1)

Melbourne need, but can't afford (traded F1)

Essendon need, and can afford.

Geelong need, and can afford.

North need, and can afford.

Saints need, and can afford.

So depending on what clubs do with their F1s in this draft (words around all of those last 4 clubs trading them out for 2024 picks), the 2025 sniping competition could be gone, and we may be able to kick the can down the road and pick him up for cheaper in 2026.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. No certainty that FOS is there at pick 3.

North won't do 2 for 10+11. It's a fantasy.

I agree that 6+11 for 2+F1 is probably still in consideration. Maybe even 6+10 (but if we're the only decent bid, why would we bid against ourselves).

We're in a good spot. No need to reach. Pick 6 is very very valuable. We could get some great offers for it on the night after the first 5 live picks are done.

Right now they won’t do 10 and 11.

On the night they might just get desperate enough though……

Don't forget that next year clubs will be able to trade 2 years of future picks

Thank you for sharing.

I disagree, west coast, north and essendon have worse key defenders than us, Adelaide and bulldogs are also probably equally bad.

We have Vlastuin, Broad, Brown, and Gibcus (if he stays on the park) plus one of Young, Blight, Miller rotates down there.

I have no doubt that at least one of Young, Blight and Miller can eventually develop to be a strong defensive roll player if we back them in to play.

Key defense is clearly currently our most competitive area, we need to invest all our picks into mids, tall forwards and small forwards this year

Next year

Vlastuin is 31
Broad is 32

How much more can Young, who will be 27 and coming off ACL, or Miller who will be 26 continue to develop? Kind of who you are at that point.

Brown is overrated, basically out of the contest once the ball hits the deck, looked worse than Dusty this year trying to bend down, not to mention can’t find the ball. Never had 20 touches at afl level, and out of his 26 games at vfl level he’s done it 8 times the same amount of times as he’s had less than 12.

Gibcus is a talent but has now had 2 season ending leg injuries.

Blight is a flyer in the msd.

Trezise and Banks to me look the most likely 2 in the backline unless Banks moves onto wing/midfield.

Balta is A-grade.

Midfield is our greatest need but our defence is a shambles, with none of our inexperienced players cementing themselves as a future AFL player. I.e. if brown, Trezise, young, smith, miller etc were delisted in 2 years would it be a shock?

Football (like most sports) is a turn over and intercept game, defence wins championships! Getting one of Barrat/Trainor/Mraz and one of Lindsay/oliver/jaques is a good move with our 8 picks.

agree, defence wins flags and we're a long way from having the building blocks of a premiership backline. Barrat & Oliver with later picks would be mint.

Bauer will end up in defence.

You might say if we're confident Armstrong's gone by 10/11 and he's the stand out kpf we should do the Norf pick 2 trade and score their f1 to facilitate cadman.

Would be crazy to trade for Cadman end of 2025. We need at least one more draft bringing in elite young talent with multiple top-30 picks. We need to realise that only 3-4 of our selections this draft will become very good or excellent players … at least a couple will be duds.

A few elite youngsters plus Cadman isn’t enough with Tassie coming in. Go hard this draft and next on elite young talent, then see how we are positioned end of 2026.

And regardless, with Lynch gone soon and question marks on all of our other KPF prospects, we need someone else even if Cadman is on our radar - so at least one of Armstrong, Shanahan, Faull or J Whitlock are are an absolute must this draft.
