Sounds better to me that trading into 2.

If Jagga and Smilie are there at 6 then maybe we offer 10 and 23 for 7.

* Disclaimer. I have no idea whether that would be a good idea or not but I'm guessing that if we got 3 mids with 1, 6 & 7 - Say Lalor and 2 of Jagga, Smilie and Langford. I would think that would be ideal.

We then use 11, 18 and 20 for 1 tall, 1 hybrid and 1 small - although I feel like a small is our least needed option unless it was Hotton.
Pick 24 to the Bummers for a future 1st and more.
Saints would likely offer up pick 8 instead of missing out on Jagga or Smillie at pick 7.

I would offer pick 11 and 23 for 8 and pick up Xavier Lyndsay who IMO is next best mid after the top 7.

Don't get the hype on Travaglia. You always take the gun on baller ahead of a half back because most on ballers can go and dominate at half back. Travaglia isn't that quick and the stuff I've read up on him suggests his kicking can be a bit iffy.

Not sure what I am missing but I'm only a highlights watcher.

He is the best competitor in the draft pool, that is why he is a guaranteed top 15 Pick

I really hope we are not into Allan

Has way too much RCD vibes

Doesn't get the ball enough
It’s an interesting one, I at first wasn’t that keen on Allan but I think he could eventually be a replacement for Vlaustin or Broad.
Allan himself has admitted that he is still raw as a midfielder and sees himself starting in the backline in an AFL side. Whereas I don’t believe RCD had any other ability other than a midfielder.
If we are to draft Lalor and Smillie it on paper looks like we are just getting 3 tall mids but I think Allan is a safe pick as a half back that has the potential to be a very good midfielder but if that doesn’t happen it seems like at worst we’d be getting a courageous half back with strong leadership.
Allan is another that in this draft is touted as a potential future captain. So far I’ve consistently heard Lalor, Jagga, Smillie and Allan have strong leadership and are potential future captains. If we got 3 of them in our first 4 picks than id be happy that we are getting 3 talented kids with attitudes that aim to set high standards and work hard which is all we can ask as supporters at the early part of these draftees careers.

If Jaggas there at 6 we take him surely. If not Smilie. Bearing in mind next year were spoon favourites and the touted top pick is a powerful bull mid so Smilie/Langford might be less of a need.
Irrelevant imo, you pick the best player that early

I know what it was. It’s called a rhetorical question.

That’s what they’ll be looking for. Tell me how it’s done genius.
You condescending git. I was not arguing that we trade for him

Your point was we don't have the draft currency when you don't know what picks we will have next year.

Had a go at it. Just what my gut says will happen.

North trade 2 + F2 + F3 to Adelaide for 4 and F1 + F4
Richmond trade 11 to Port for 13 + 29
Richmond trade 23 to St Kilda for F1
Richmond trade 24 to Essendon for F1
North also in the mix to trade an F1 for something between 20-24

1. Lalor - Richmond
2. Draper - Adelaide
3. Ashcroft - Brisbane
4. Smith - Blues
5. Tauru - North
6. Langford - Melbourne
7. FOS - Richmond
8. Smillie - Saints
9. Lombard - Suns
10. Armstrong - Saints
11. Reid - Melbourne
12. Kako - Essendon
13. Lindsay - Richmond
14. Travaglia - Port
15. Allan - West Coast
16. Hotton - Richmond
17. Shanahan - Fremantle
18. Berry - GWS
19. Marshall - Brisbane
20. Oliver - GWS
21. Hynes - Dogs
22. J.Whitlock - Richmond
23. M.Whitlock - Sydney
24. Gerreyn - Richmond
25. Faull - GWS
26. Dattoli - Sydney
27. Dodson - Saints
28. Trainor - Essendon
29. Gross - Dogs
30. Davis - West Coast
31. Hannaford - Richmond

Lalor, FOS, Lindsay, Hotton, J.Whitlock, Gerreyn, Hannaford

4 mid/fwds, 1 mid/wing, 1 fwd/ruck, 1 ruck/fwd
Two 2025 F1s

Had to reach for Gerreyn to get him before GWS / West Coast / St Kilda. Dogs a chance to snipe Hannaford at 29, but I feel their midfield needs more help now with Smith and Macrae leaving.

not every pick needs to be an elite kick

a tauru or a bo allen would be very handy

there are lots of roles on a football field
the knocks on Allan are his kicking and his lowish possession rate.
I reckon neither is a major concern.
Occasionally he blazes away by foot, but I reckon that’s easily fixed in an AFL system.
His numbers can be on the low side, but he doesn’t get many cheapies, does all the hard defensive, team orientated stuff, which is one of the reasons he’s rated so highly.
Having a guy his size, with his aggression, busting open stoppages, is just as important imo as someone running behind packs racking up cheap stats.

If it’s true that the likely top pick next year is a big bodied midfielder, then if Smilje and Jagga are both there at 6, surely we pick Jagga?

I believe an agile and ‘smaller’ midfielder is an important part of the midfield mix. Lachie Neale. Serong. Daicos. Gulden. Walsh. Butters. Merrett etc…. or from recent dynasties : Cotchin, Prestia, Edwards, Selwood, Kelly, Mitchell, Power, Aker…

I’m not talking short people or lightweights … I’m just talking mids who are not 186cm+.

We can get big bodied mids after the top-10 : eg. Allan, Hynes. This is of course in addition to Lalor.

And we already have TT, Hopper, McAuliffe, Banks, Hugo and Ross who are all 187cm+.

And our smaller mids are the soon to be retired Prestia, plus Sonsie and Dow who both look doubtful to make it.

Jagga is better credentialled at U18 level nearly all other ‘smaller’ midfielders in recent times, with perhaps Naicos and Ashcroft the only ones who’ve had superior underage careers than Jagga.

If we had a plethora of small mids id take Smilje … but for balance I’d go Jagga if both are there at 6.

We just take the best avaliable at 1,6,10 IMO.
No need to be cute.
The comp is so even, if we get everyone on the park we could win 7-10 games.

I see the good ole drafting half back flankers is still in vogue with some 😜 🤦‍♂️

Pick 1 Highlights

Full Season Sam Lalor highlights .... Not sure if this was posted

Just re-watching these, its obvious why he is almost a lock for Pick 1.

His marking, his don't argue, elite kick and then he does something strange as a high end pick.....he defends and tackles....
