Prefer Murphy Reidthe knocks on Allan are his kicking and his lowish possession rate.
I reckon neither is a major concern.
Occasionally he blazes away by foot, but I reckon that’s easily fixed in an AFL system.
His numbers can be on the low side, but he doesn’t get many cheapies, does all the hard defensive, team orientated stuff, which is one of the reasons he’s rated so highly.
Having a guy his size, with his aggression, busting open stoppages, is just as important imo as someone running behind packs racking up cheap stats.
I genuinely would not be against us taking Draper at 1 or trading up to take him at 2.
I hadn't looked much into him till the last few nights, he is seriously impressive.
Could almost argue the pick of the trio when comparing Lalor / FOS / Draper.
Was previously gravitating towards the idea of keeping our picks instead of trading up, but it would be seriously good to get Draper at 2. Lalor as that inside beast who can kick goals, and then Draper with his pace and agility who also goes in hard. Won’t happen, but it would be pretty great. We need faster midfielders. Hopefully whatever we do works out though
And when he does, he butchers it, hard passI really hope we are not into Allan
Has way too much RCD vibes
Doesn't get the ball enough
Good playerPrefer Murphy Reid
Remembering Mcauliffe has a lethal left foot, Lalor has the same weapon on the right side! Those two could form a solid combo. The class of FOS or Jagga and even M.Reid/Lindsey would fit perfectly next to those two.
Another taller defensive type mid and that’s a solid midfield group.
Had a go at it. Just what my gut says will happen.
North trade 2 + F2 + F3 to Adelaide for 4 and F1 + F4
Richmond trade 11 to Port for 13 + 29
Richmond trade 23 to St Kilda for F1
Richmond trade 24 to Essendon for F1
1. Lalor - Richmond
2. Draper - Adelaide
3. Ashcroft - Brisbane
4. Smith - Blues
5. Tauru - North
6. Langford - Melbourne
7. FOS - Richmond
8. Smillie - Saints
9. Lombard - Suns
10. Armstrong - Saints
11. Reid - Melbourne
12. Kako - Essendon
13. Lindsay - Richmond
14. Travaglia - Port
15. Allan - West Coast
16. Hotton - Richmond
17. Shanahan - Fremantle
18. Berry - GWS
19. Marshall - Brisbane
20. Oliver - GWS
21. Hynes - Dogs
22. J.Whitlock - Richmond
23. M.Whitlock - Sydney
24. Gerreyn - Richmond
25. Faull - GWS
26. Dattoli - Sydney
27. Dodson - Saints
28. Trainor - Essendon
29. Gross - Dogs
30. Davis - West Coast
31. Hannaford - Richmond
Lalor, FOS, Lindsay, Hotton, J.Whitlock, Gerreyn, Hannaford
4 mid/fwds, 1 mid/wing, 1 fwd/ruck, 1 ruck/fwd
Two 2025 F1s
Had to reach for Gerreyn to get him before GWS / West Coast / St Kilda. Dogs a chance to snipe Hannaford at 29, but I feel their midfield needs more help now with Smith and Macrae leaving.
if you believe that, why are you saying we'd surely pick jagga over smillie? If it’s true that the likely top pick next year is a big bodied midfielder, then if Smilje and Jagga are both there at 6, surely we pick Jagga?
I believe an agile and ‘smaller’ midfielder is an important part of the midfield mix.
Feel like FOS is the only optimistic part, but the reality is someone out of FOS, Smillie, Smith, Draper, Langford will be there; Smillie most likely, which is still totally fine.My Favourite so far, great job even if a little optimistic.
He looks like he plays quick.Competitors are great, but if he is average speed with poor foot skills then it's an avoid for mine.
Xavier Lindsay and Murphy Reid are two I would love to get at 10-11.
I don't really rate the combine's agility test. It looks very little like what you'd see on a footy field. Jagga's strengths aren't truly picked up by it.if you believe that, why are you saying we'd surely pick jagga over smillie?
smillie tested better in agility:
jagga - 8.484
smillie - 8.391
and their 20m sprint times were
jagga - 3.038
smillie - 3.090
if you really believe a smaller and more agile midfielder is important, you should be championing for hotton
agility - 7.807
20m - 2.882
running vert - 93cm
those were his preseason testing numbers, which if he replicated them, not even improving on them, at the national combine he'd have been
agility - 1st
20m - 3rd
running vert - 2nd
i agree but for a smaller mid he got outdone by almost every mid plus tauru, armstrong, faull, etc, the only people he didn't beat were slow kpfs/rucks & gross, oh and langford (from the top 30 that there's numbers from)I don't really rate the combine's agility test. 100% - we need leaders with a win at all costs attitude (a la langford/jagga/hynes).the knocks on Allan are his kicking and his lowish possession rate.

I would hate to invest a pick 10/11 on a player that might become a good medium defender (maybe)Allan can play as a good medium defender. So he’s unlikely to be a total bust. He’d be a hard to stop on the run.

RCD weakness was never strength !! It was he just couldnt find enough of the ball inside & OutsideAllan’s strength was RCD’s weakness. And that is physicality. Gotta remember he was a 17 year old playing in the senior WAFL getting those numbers and competing, give him a pre-season in a pro system.
I think he would be a great addition next to Broad and Vlastuin early days, developing next to them would turn him into a beast! Would play most games next year if we get him imo. Vlastuin was pick 9 and a pick 9 well spent. Allan could be long term replacement with plenty of time to develop under him and Broad.
I reckon Jagga still has a lot of physical development in him too.A couple of points.
Players are drafted for their perceived output in 4 to 6 years.
Jagga completed school last year and has concentrated on footy all year. He has trained all year. That shows dedication but also elevates his output compared to his rivals.
Lalor hardly trained. I think he had one training session prior to starting the season because he kept in cricket for 120 overs straight which led to groin issues.
FOS entered the season as clear number one but broke a finger first game and then a thumb on his return leading to an interrupted year. He then copped a severe calf corkie in the first quarter of his VFL game with us and refused to come off and played in the forward line, kicking 2 goals. He hasn’t had more than 20 possessions in any game this year. First game in last year’s championships, he had 32 possessions, so he can get the ball.
Nobody this year is a standout.
Draper has played with men and has great numbers but his kicking is not elite which is tough to carry as a potential number one pick. He has speed to burn though.
Our recruiting staff have some really tough decisions.
I would hate to invest a pick 10/11 on a player that might become a good medium defender (maybe)
genuine quality mid or KPF at these selections
Very rare to see an attacking weapon like this at 18 year of age who is also elite defensively. In fact thrives off it.How can anyone watch the Lalor highlights and still say he isnt the #1 pick?
strength, skill, speed, aggression
has it all

Literally just needs an elite tank to have it all.
