The thing with Lalor and Smillie is that they will both be super dangerous resting forward.

As much as I've always wanted FOS, and have been off Smillie given his "limp" arms, if we get those 2 we have two beastly midfielders that are huge forward threats too.

The hard part is, can you build a midfield with Ross, McAuliffe, Lalor, Smillie, as well as Hopper and Taranto? Where is the speed? Would really love to somehow get Jagga too...

I think if we miss Jagga and have 2 bigger kids with 1 and 6 then guys like Lindsay, Hutton and Hannaford are perfect for later picks

We will be trading #10 to Port for #13 + #29 or #36 we want to slide back to get a later pick in the draft

#13 - Jack Whitlock as our Tim Lunch replacement
#18 - Matt Whitlock as a KPD that can pinch hit in the foward line

Yeah well if the rumors are true re Jack Whitlock then we’d be mad not to do that trade. He will still be there at 13 and gives us the option to trade out 23 and 24 for F1’s and still get a target later on and draft 7 this year.

Smart, & makes sense.
Even if its for 13 & 36, 36 will come in 4 spots with the Kako & Ashcroft bids and its a wide draft.
Picks 10 & 11 will be sought after by a number of clubs on draft night.

for picks 1 & 7 it's a good bet

best case scenario = tracca + cripps combo

avg outcome probs but still good = degoey + green

worst case scenario = cumbo + rcd

didn't use dusty in the examples because as we all know there's only one
He's got that Stringer vibe about him.
Nowhere near Dusty.

Well, if that eventuates, then JackW will be our JackR replacement, both taken with pick 13

I reckon picks between 30 and 40 have alot of bang for buck in this draft

Happy to slide down there with some of our picks if it suits us

Couple of months ago, the likely number 1 for us through speculation was Jagga and then maybe FOS. Lalor wasn't mentioned in pick 1 contention.
We were actually linked to Lalor at 6

What's changed to suggest we MUST take Lalor at 1?

If we took FOS at 1, would we be ANY chance of Lalor at 6? Or do we have reason to believe Lalor wouldn't be there at all at 6?

I would be happy with either as I think they are the best 2 to pick from.
I remember when John Butcher was touted top 3 all year before Dusty came into the fold

My requirements for personal happiness post-draft. (Not all of this has to happen, but a couple would be nice)
  • we traded for pick 2 or
  • we picked FOS at 1
  • we draft Hotton
  • we don't reach for a tall at 10 or 11 (unless it's Armstrong)
  • Dusty hands our pick 1 their jumper

Quality article, highly recommend. Someone in the AFL industry talking about how to incorporate data and evaluate player quality in both a player recruitment sense and match day environment

Finally, it was time to fully loop back to the subject which opened this post – the top 10 of the upcoming National Draft. (I didn’t quite phrase the question this way, instead, I asked Bailey who the Crows should take with Pick 4.) Bailey is enthusiastic about the leading group, with some minor caveats. “It's a really even group – actually, probably even the top 10 is really even. Jagga Smith, based on the first half of the year, I wouldn't have touched him. That’s an exaggeration. You'd obviously take them at like 15 right, but I didn't think he was a top pick. He was one of the most selfish players I've ever seen. Then he went and played VFL, and he was awesome. And he came back to Coates League after playing VFL, and it was almost like the penny had dropped. He actually had to play team-first. So he's just been exceptional since. He’ll go early. Each player in the top 10 has a fairly obvious flaw. But some of the flaws aren't really that important. Some of the flaws are kind of more just about inherent uncertainty. Sam Lalor is not a good runner, but he's never done a preseason before. There are some others I kind of don't want to go too much into, but they're being touted as high draft picks and we, I, wouldn't have them anywhere near there.”

I do not disagree with everybobdy, I do disagree with comments I disagree with, like Thailand provides everything for a man especially Pattaya. You can disagree with me but I am not giving up my superior locations, and I am not worrying about high risk unlikely types

I disagree with your disagreements

Thailand does provide everything for every man and im sure Pattaya would even have something for you

Surely Roos fold at their first pick if they have no takers and if they know Tauru will be there at 6. Why take him at 2 when they could get him at 6 and also grab another. 18 for example. Either way I’m happy if we hold off and keep our picks. Or unless they offer us something we can’t refuse.

I have been to Thailand and I know other places are better to the point for me, Thailand simply cannot satisfy me

Thailand would be like eating a dry biscuit instead of a Magnum in other places

The vibe is far better in other places

None of those were in their prime like a lynch or Cameron besides buddy.
Kennedy, Gunston and Ottens were (more ruck than forward though).
