I've done a 180 on Dodson, he's a proper talent. I know rucks take forever but he looks blue chip, we're in a good position to invest in him now and it may pay real dividends. No idea if the go-home factor is an issue though

It's ok as we are building a nice contingent of SA boys into our next dynasty team, much like we had WA boys previously.
Add Sharpe into the mix next year and 2017 won't be the only thing Adelaide fans cringe when Richmond is named.

Why on earth would we retain Colina, he has been even more useless than the human statue.
Last I read ( from the very reliable J Ralph) , he was going to be delisted and then relisted as a Cat B.
If that’s correct, I suppose that isn’t so bad, although I get people’s frustration.

Imagine getting Draper this year and turns out to be the star of the draft! The tears would be delicious!

Speaking to one of his coaches at Sturt he rates him pretty highly. Quite a capable key forward aswell. Wont be disappointed if we use a later selection on him

I think a lot of this came down to how we managed his injury as a club.

Apparently we managed his back very very poorly and he was not impressed at all.

I think with the change of fitness staff we owe it to him and ourselves to give him a proper crack at seeing what he can do.

for the games he played I actually thought he showed some good progression. we just need him out there more often to see him grow.

Louie made him cart the digital bricks across the car park for the new grandstand and he did his back.

I can understand how pissed you’d be at that level of mismanagement from the club.

Ideally we gain a F2 from someone and slid some picks with our later picks in the 20s to say pick 28-35 and that’s where we hopefully pick up someone like Dodson.

Picks 20-24 might seem a tad too early for him with the quality still lurking at that point.

Kellaway too ;)

Couple of months ago, the likely number 1 for us through speculation was Jagga and then maybe FOS. Lalor wasn't mentioned in pick 1 contention.
We were actually linked to Lalor at 6

What's changed to suggest we MUST take Lalor at 1?

If we took FOS at 1, would we be ANY chance of Lalor at 6? Or do we have reason to believe Lalor wouldn't be there at all at 6?

I would be happy with either as I think they are the best 2 to pick from.
It’s a fair question and it’s probably due to a lot of factors, especially with such a unique and even draft. However, in reality it’s likely Lalor was always in this conversation the average punter just didn’t realise.

Heard the GWS List Manager about a month ago on "Getable" saying if they had 1st choice Lalor was the player they would pick but they know he wont drop that far in the draft.

I would personally much rather us pick gerryn over dodson if we were to pick one

and I say that as someone that has watched gerryn's highlight vids a few times and have watched zero footage of dodson so you know I'm impartial
ok I finally watched some and will say I'd be glad to take him if we're taking a pure ruck since he still has a lot of improvement left in him

but gerryn as a ruck/fwd is also exciting

would love them both plus jack whitlock to have a nice ruck, ruck/fwd, fwd combo

but alas we've clogged our list with a heap of 3rd round+ talls so there's not enough space in the vfl side to develop them all

This is the junior journo from the Sun being wheeled out to do a mock which he would of got off Twomey, ESPN and big footy.
Chris Cavanagh has worked at the Sun since 2017 and has frequently produced their draft content and mocks for years. He’s a good source!

lol....

No.1 draftees previously scored a $10,000 NAB portfolio, but that was last awarded two years ago, with Telstra taking over the sponsorship and the prize yet to be determined.

Harley Reid last year became the first top selection to receive the Allen Aylett Medal in recognition of the achievement.
Lalor will be looking forward to his $30 recharge voucher for his new Telstra phone..

I don't know how I feel about us leaving Lindsay, Berry, Hotton, Reid on the board and opting for Whitlock but he probably won't make it to our next pick. Neither will Shanahan.
I think we are slightly reaching but only because we don’t have a pick between 12 & 17 where they think he is worth. I’ve read somewhere that Port were keen on JWhitlock so potentially we are reaching to get our preferred tall? I don’t think he lasts til 18.

I hadn’t read that anywhere but given our injury troubles the past two years not unsurprising but very disappointing from a players perspective.

Port Adelaide will not nominate any of its four father-son candidates for next week’s national draft but a Next Generation

Academy prospect could find his way onto the Power’s list.

With the player pool considered to be one of the strongest in years, the Power has given up automatic access to Woodville-West Torrens halfback Rome Burgoyne (Peter), North Adelaide utility Louie Montgomery (Brett) and West Adelaide defender Ky Burgoyne (Shaun) – all sons of 2004 premiership players.

Roosters midfielder Oliver Francou’s dad, Josh, was runner-up in the Brownlow Medal at Port Adelaide in 2002.

Rome – the brother of Power wingman Jase Burgoyne – is the highest rated of the four and it is understood a couple of other clubs have shown interest in him ahead of the draft.

The Power can still select any of the four with its picks, if they are still available, but cannot match any selection from rival clubs.

Port has already announced Francou will play for its SANFL side in 2025 if he is not picked up by another club next week.

After playing 11 games for North Adelaide’s Under 18 in 2024, averaging 24.2 disposals. 6.4 clearances and 4.9 tackles per game, Francou said he was excited about the prospect of having a crack for the Magpies in the SANFL.

“I’m really excited to play for the same club my dad had an AFL career at,” Francou told Port’s website.

“If the draft doesn’t go my way this year, I want to give myself the best chance to develop in a SANFL system at an AFL club.

“I hope I can contribute to the club well, and I can’t wait to get started.”

While the Power has not nominated any of its four father-son prospects, Next Generation Academy member Benny Barrett could find his way to Alberton next week.

If the South Adelaide prospect’s name is not called during the national draft the Power can automatically add him as a rookie.

The 174cm left-footer, of Papua New Guinean heritage, has been touted as Port’s best academy prospect this year.

Impressing in the Panthers’ reserves and under-18s this year with his x-factor, Barrett is viewed as a potential small forward at AFL level.

He has also played through the midfield and won the best-and-fairest for the SANFL under-16s in 2022.

Adelaide has nominated Tyler Welsh, son of ex-Crows forward Scott Welsh.

The Power has picks No. 13, 29, 36 and 50 while the Crows have No. 4 and 64.
