I wonder which way we'll go if we end up with the choice between Jagga and Smillie at 7?
I'm leaning towards jagga, we're likely taking an upside pick at 1, jagga just seems very safe and given where we're at with our list that is certainly something we shouldn't turn our nose up at. I think he'll perform fairly well early too which will take some pressure of guys like lalor who may take a little longer to adjust. I know some have doubts about his usage but rocking up and averaging 30odd touches in your first three VFL games is nothing to be sniffed at. I remember getting excited any time rcd got over 20

Yes but a lot of people are struggling to understand that there's no obvious ranking for that first group of mids. People like to see a definitive ranking but this year there isn't.
Clubs will pick best available with the first 6 picks, they are not picking for specific attributes I don't think and it's a subjective decision.
How do you know what Blair and Francis think though? They may not see the same thing being spruiked by the media.
If we trade up, there’s a reason for it. If we don’t, they are happy with talent available at our picks.
They’ve done the research

True but they have to pick someone at 1. It's unfortunate there's no Harley Reid or Jason Horne-Francis this year.

I'll vomit if we take Jack Whitlock. Just give me a pure forward. When was rhe last time a Forward/Ruck hybrid was actually genuinely a gun?

Jackson has his moments, but is better as a ruckman.

I'd much rather draft a dedicated forward and a dedicated ruckman.

I am really warming to Taj Hotton. has a bit of X factor I reckon.

I really hope he falls to 18, as I don't think we will take him at 10/11.

Hotton to me will be the type of player we wanted Cumberland to be.

He's much better than Liam McBean. These super tall players are the future of the game.

I didn’t say it but yesterday when I heard we are interested in Whitlock I went back to find some pre draft comments about Vickery

Pretty similar stuff

On paper Vickery wasn’t a “bad” player but he certainly was a let down in terms of what we wanted him to be I just dunno if I’m ready to ride that roller coaster again

195cm midfield beast with 1 contested mark for an entire year.

100% think we have better options.
well lets put it this way, would you take tom green at pick 7? i would

this year and last year tom green has played 47 games for a total of 3 contested marks

there's still room for improvement in smillie's marking but there's no player without flaws in the draft

smillies combine numbers are almost the exact same as cotchin's numbers who also wasn't the greatest contested marker, obviously height should help with contested marking, but if we're not sacrificing speed/agility for height then...?

in petracca's recent 5 years post "breakout" he's had a max of 8 contested marks over 17/25/24/25/13 game seasons with 15-30 goals. i don't think it would be that out of the realm of possibilities to have smillie get 8 contested marks over a full season with 4+ years of development

if the club doesn't back themselves to be able to do that they should fire the development coaches

at the end of the day, smillie is a great mid with a great ceiling and fixable flaws that aren't detrimental

Been burnt by Vickery, CCJ, Ryan etc.

Well they have to try and rank them but that's why we didn't trade pick 6 for pick 2

I cannot fathom why posters keep saying something about not trading for pick 2 proves the evenness or that we don’t rate the trade up?

Pick trading is still allowed up until the pick is made and not to mention they’re shopping pick 2/F1 around the league like they’re Morro in stilettos standing under a streetlight in St kilda.

Just watching Gettable. Cal said that if we don't pick Lalor, there's a chance he slides to pick 6 but it's slim.

For me, it just makes sense to pick FOS at 1 and risk missing on Lalor.

I remind you that this is a super draft and that North's future 1st could be pick 4 which is probably the same as pick 14 this year.

Agree to an extent but on the flip side this could also be the best draft ever to have 6 1st roubd draft picks and 8 before 24

Swings and roundabouts

I don't think that's correct. I'd happily trade out pick 14 this year for pick 4 next year. It would have to be a very shallow draft to not find a gun player at pick 4.
