Because the sum total of who we'd get at 6 & 18/20/23 is greater than just pick 2. Now if North want to put their F1 on the table as well, then we'd at least have to think long and hard about it.

I'd love to read that the offer we put to North is 6 & 24 for 2 and F1 take it or leave it. That way we take everyone we want with our first 7 picks and could then the first pick of R2 into a potential top 5 pick next year.

When North rightfully knocks that back we auction of 24 to the highest bidder before R2 begins and it becomes a win-win situation for us with 7 highly rated kids this year and at least 3 top 20 picks already in our pocket for 2025.
Why are we proposing something we know will get knocked back?
It feels like people (not you) are more focused on sticking it to North than actually getting a better result for Richmond.

The general perception I get from this board is that unless we absolutely embarass North then no deal should be done.
I agree that the deal needs to be in our favour as we have the leverage but ultimately I just want the best players. I don't care about North.

Yep take the slug to replace hopper prestia Tarranto good thinking👍
Smilie has taken 1 contested mark in the forward half all year ..Langford is a very good front half player ...great mark ...he also runs all day getting from contest to contest ..so yeah it probably is a good idea 🤏

I believe we are and absolutely should be running our own race

If the club deem pick 2 is worth the price lets get it done, especially if we can do it and manage to keep 6

Couldn’t really care less if it costs us down the order if it means we dictate how the entire draft unfolds at the top end

I’d say we are a near certainty to grab J Whitlock at 10/11. Reason being he’s on an island as a quality forward / ruck. If we don’t take him here he won’t be at 18.

But other options we may bypass at 10/11 have similar players later … if we miss Allan we can get Hynes. If we miss Berry we can get Datolli. If we miss Shanahan we can get Faull.

But if we miss J Whitlock, there’s no other KPF who could be a quality ruckman at our later pick range.

For this reason i hope we don’t get Allan at 10/11. Assuming we get Lalor and Smillie, then I’d want a different mix of player at this pick … Lindsay, Travaglia, Reid …. we can get Hynes with a later pick who is a similar build to Allan.

Keep in mind Sharp is also 188cm … and maybe growing. I know it’s a long way out, but it seems likely a big bodied kid is coming in 2025 draft also.

Terrible

(Also didn't read)

The last six premiers brought in a key forward from another club. Obviously McStay didn’t make GF day and in ‘17 trading in Caddy and Towner helped big time.
And before us Boyd to the Bulldogs and Gunston to the Hawks.

A destination club on the right track can get them.

Ps. I’m not using that as a reason to not draft a key forward; just that it’s not panic stations.
The only 3 examples of that lot where they were driving force to trans success
Lynch
Caneron
Daniher

You’d need to get pretty creative to convince for the others

Also the journey begins now , getting qty kpp means we get to first base sooner than later and that qty is generally assured in r1 , history says so

Trainor sliding doesn't surprise me at all.

Very similar defender to Jack Lukocious, not a KPD, not strong in the contest but a delicious kick of the pill.
Trainor ~ The intercepting defender likes to prowl around the backline and fly for his grabs. He is a penetrating kick and can quickly turn defence into attack with his ball use and game reading in the air, having spent the majority of his junior career as a forward.
C'mon tiges draft him chuck him fwd. Doug Wade blood ~ he'll be kicking 100 in a season

Just listened to cal twomey, smillie is heavily linked to us and said there is a chance he is there at pick 10, also linked us to bo allan and said there is a chance we take him at 6 if we fear melbourne or st kilda might select him beforehand.

Said Port adelaide are likely to take a tall linked armstrong, J whitlock, shanahan so seems we might have to take j whitlock at 11 if we want him.

Also said we've done a lot of work on berry, and that rival clubs view that in relation to pick 18 but there is a chance we take him at 10 or 11.

Still deciding between FOS and Lalor for pick 1

Cal said richmond have been linked to dodson but that is more to do with our volume of picks and spreading them out all over the field. Not sure that dodson is definitely going to the tigers but pick 24 is the start of his range, also linked st kilda

From my watching of key forward vid's, which to be fair does not make me an expert, I can't see any natural markers in the draft. Watched a lot of Armstrong (vid's of course) and have yet to see him clunk one, and he is supposed to be the best forward. A few of the taller boys can take a grab but they are averaging a goal and a half or two a game at Coates level, not exactly ripping it up.

So if Trainer was a forward, and he is a natural roaming marking player, why not take a punt and use him there. As a backman, he plays a lot like Gibcus.

About time Doug Wade was mentioned as a prototype modern day forward, it was only the hoops that made him look like a fat bastard.

Because we're not the ones desperate to deal, so if we're going to do anything with them, that helps them solve their own mess, then it should only be in a way where we benefit greatly. If not then take the picks we currently have to the draft, get the best 7 players we can and auction off 24 to the highest bidder and stockpile picks for 2025.
