I'm not super keen on taking a Whitlock,

But if we do take one, we better bloody commit and take both of them.
It will be tough to get them into one club, but you never know…
Jack is seen as the better choice, but Matt played both CHB and CHF very well, so I’m not sure if that (ranking) is just due to the 3cm height diff…
The knock on both was that the first option either doesn’t occur to them, or doesn’t come easily to them…Like it did for Joe Berry and Josh Murphy (why he has fallen away, I don’t know)…Can you teach that…? If we can, you’d take a punt…

Hotton butchers the ball, that's why.
I think calling him a butcher is overstating it, has room for improvement in an afl environment sure, but I would gladly take a "butcher" who avged almost 30d & 2g from his 3 appearances in the coates league

there's at least something to work with, although I think it's unlikely he makes it to our pick 18 (until I see twomey's phantom)

Dustin Martin's bio said that he was an extemely clean user of the ball, the same for Tom Brown. Unless you are Alex Rance there is no room for butchers of the ball at the Richmond Football club.

I would just like to post Smillie's combine results that i found on another site thanks to (lidss)

  • Ran a 3.08 20m which stacks up well against similar guys like Bont and Cripps who were both 3.2+.
  • Ran 8.391 agility which I think was better than what Jagga did? (could be wrong) who should've had him covered here with his body type.
  • Ran a very solid 6:38 2km on a tough day where most of them ran slower times.
    [*]7th in standing vertical

Add to all that the fact that he's a very natural footballer and not just some athlete. Clean hands and one touch at the contest, finds the ball with ease and kicks goals. Also uses the ball well and anyone that thinks he doesn't is objectively wrong. His kicking is one of his strengths.

Get 3-4 pre seasons into all this + proper AFL level training and who knows what could become of this kid ? I agree its a little bit of a risky pick but imo his ceiling is on mars if he can put it all together.

No thanks

Lot of loud voices with outrageous takes that haven’t contributed much in the draft thread in the past 6 months. It feels like they’ve skimmed a few articles, watched a highlight reel, and are now basking in their own echo chamber

doesn’t mean they’re wrong

Have you read the shite that gets posted be you’re regular posters?

Jar jar binks spoke a lot in the Star Wars prequels but i dont think anyone would believe he contributed anything of value other than having a punchable face

Well which are the better picks then? See, not logical.
The way it works would be something like Pick 1 has a 30% chance , pick 2 a 25% chance ect.
The last two years Harley Reid and JHF will be the best player in their draft.
Picks 1 & 2 may have the best chance of being the best players from the draft but rarely does it pan out that way and that's my point. We shouldn't trade up for pick 2 and give away another top 20 pick in the process. Take our picks as they stand and add as much talent as possible across the board so we fill as many holes as possible.

Selections 1 and 2 are most likely to secure the best and second best players. Certainly more so than any other combination of picks. And as recruiting gets more professional and scientific this will increasingly be the case. However, variability and the number of possibilities means it will not happen regularly.
The pertinent question in each year and particularly for us, is have we identified on our recruiting criteria the two best, or best fit for us, players to a reasonable level of clarity.

PS: But pick 6 looks cursed!!!
Well aware of those numbers, but it should be noted that just because they average more games it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be the best actual players.

Given that pick 6 seems likely to be one of Smillie, Smith or Langford, I am in the camp of "do not trade for 2" unless North make an offer too good to refuse.

If North throw a stupid offer our way we'd have to consider it, but I think we'd get more value trading a late pick to the Bummers.

Thanks for introducing yourself.

Do you enjoy long walks on the beach as well?

If we can turn 24 into one of the F1 that Essendon holds its a massive win for us as there's a chance it will be a top 10 pick, maybe even top 5 if Melbourne were to shit the bed again.

Feel like we'd have to do 18 or 20 for Essendon pick. 24 you'd think would be a team that plays finals.

Pick 6 will, effectively, be pick 7. So curse averted.

But our current hand 1,6, 10, 11, 18, 20, 23, 24 is great cos 1 and 6 guarantee young mids. Hopefully a 182 & 195 type. Maybe a KPF or medium sized player, Bo Allan at 10 11 or 18 ruck at 24. Small forward maybe.

Picks 1 and North's 2 will be a haul of 2 gun mids. Anything involving our Pick 6? nah. Pick 10? yeah

I found the ESPN write up very interesting
“His question marks revolve around his ability to accumulate and win contested ball. If those areas improve at the next level, O'Sullivan will become one of the most damaging midfielders in the game.”

They are 2 very big question marks
A. Win contested ball
B. Ability to accumulate.

If that’s a concern at u18 level, it’s not getting any easier at higher level.
Based on this, FOS may be on the Table at 10.....

Has played midfield all year so some saying he won't be ready seems odd especially given his combine results.

Watching him he is very nimble for a 194cm player, which is backed up by his agility result and the fact that he reads the ball well.

The only reasonable knocks on him are that he had an underwhelming carnival, which is fair enough, and that he doesn't use his frame/size to max effect. He probably never needed to because like Smith, he seems to read it so easily and has the agility to not need to barge through. Aggression will come with age.

Will be a very good footballer, so if we got him at 6 no problem, or if he slides, 10 would be great.
