That’s the problem with the club the 2’s are shit & we have no depth he could play Petty’s role & ruck for 5 mins leaving JVR to play forward 100% of games.
The 2s were shit for a few reasons, yes lack of depth was one of them. But we were also overstuffed in for the forward line if you watched any games. We had Ben Brown, Fullerton, Schache, along with Verall resting for Fullerton, and adding the young Kentfield as well. That's five to six talls then Jefferson had to compete with for space with his development. We finally got two out, we don't need to add them back.

The depth issue for the 2s is more how stripped bare we are in the guts in the 2s because of how our midfield had issues in the seniors. Plus the departure of players such as Harmes and Jordan, along with Dunstan who essentially filled a role in our 2s. Laurie is an excellent case and point for both, he's a half forward that's playing midfield. Because one we can't fit him up forward, and two we need him in the midfield for necessity in the 2s

That's all with the fact that Day comes with a warning label, that his body is both beaten up and older. The same argument applies to our interest in Lynch. They might not even get on the park, like Hunter this year

Then finally our senior coach would prefer to play Petty out of position with no sense or logic, regardless. We actually have talls that could have come in, but he insisted on playing an out of form Petty for the whole season, and a mostly out of form Turner for a long chunk

Brown & Schache are now gone would you like to replace them with an 18 year old?

Don't want to replace them with anyone, we had enough tall forwards on the list, i think i've made that clear. We will have a 21 year old who now has the space to work on his craft and develop.

If i was going to replace them though, yes i'd certainly want someone we can use hopefully for the next decade and not just the next year. We have a great chance to give our list a freshen up at the moment

Now a tall project defender would be okay to draft in the 2s with Tomlinson likely to move and Steven May aging

On Sam Day, like Jake Stringer and Tom Lynch, he is on the wrong side of 30 too. If he was Sandy Brock's age or in the age sweet-spot, then yes.

When your 21 playing as a forward you should have showed a little more. You can’t freshen up with kids look at how long north has been down the bottom Richmond will be the same.

Stinger kicked 42 goals would have won our goals kicking. Doesn’t matter on age as long as you can kick goals. It’s unfortunate our forwards don’t kick 80 points each week has been an issue for 3 years.

Can we just fast forward to the draft. Need to know who my new great white hope is.

Would like to see us trade into another first round pick so 2 players can share the load of my expectations, not sure if the late 2nd and two 3rds will offer an OK points trade to make something happen for someone with an academy pick or father son pick.
We need to be careful about our future 1st Rnd pick, because if things turn out to be hopeful, we might need it next year, plus other future picks IF BigMac comes up for us.?

He could turn out to be Maxy's replacement in future.?

You're missing my point. How is he allowed to work on his craft and develop when the forward line in the 2s is that bogged down and top heavy? Yes he should have shown more, but also it's pretty limiting when you lead and you have BBB and Fullerton wresting in a pack in front of where you'd learn to lead into, that's both personal and gameplan

I think he's somewhat on the right track, won't know until he gets more exposure at AFL, But cluttering the forward line isn't going to help him which is what i'm trying to say. It's two top heavy, yes you need some experience to help them learn up there, but we're stifling opportunities with an over cluttered forward line. JVR and Hogan didn't have to contend with the amount of talls up there that was present this year

Has he shown enough, No. You're right. But have we done enough to give him the proper chances and opportunity to grow? Also No. Would bringing in another older forward help that? I don't think so

Also i'm not advocating to go super young? But we're also a slow looking side, and our older players are starting to show their age. If we make the correct moves now and bring in the right amount of youth, the list could get a much needed freshen up. Does that mean you fully go young? Not at all. otherwise we will end up like Richmond, that retained their older injury prone players too long, and oversold to bring in experienced mids. If they had started planning seriously a couple of years ago, they wouldn't be where they are now. They tried to top of with the right players and stay in the window, and now they're sitting bottom with a shit list they could have been a bit more further advanced into their next phase. We're flaunting very close to what they've done by bringing in McAdam, Billings and Hunter.

I mean look at the Hawks compared to us, they've got the right balance of youth and a few experienced heads along with a gameplan to play exciting footy. That's why they're playing finals ahead of us this season. Then also when Gunston and Breust all make way and retire, they should already be setup for sustained success by then.

Almost thought we had a thread title change "this is SugarHealey's world and we are just living in it" 😄
I get left behind on the weekends mostly, so catchup 1 post at a time.

Sorry for so many strings of posts.

Love his consistent hate boner for Fritch (the only bloke who kicks goals in our team)

And also his bizarre lower case h when he uses hReid as Harley's nickname

I don't hate Fritta. But I hate his selfish play, and non-defence attitudes. He is a culture killer. As is Oli.

We can find plenty of players who can share the footy with, and share the goals.
But the lack of pressure form even one player inside F50 just lets the opposition start a run on, and overlap.
Our Key defenders are getting older, and Lever isn't a one on one player, so will struggle in a fast play-on gamestyle.

Our contest game style is a good one built on solid foundations, as long as we incorporate run and carry, exiting halfback, causing our own overlap, and angle kicks to open up our whole forward 50.

Hope the Dees have a look at Sam Day from the Gold Coast could get him for nothing. Would be a very handy backup forward/ruck.
No, Levi Casboult is a much better mark, and can ruck as well.
Height: 199cm Weight: 104kg Position: forward

Is older but is better, and is still fit, and might yet get another year at GCS. He has the height and weight to do it as a 2nd ruck/forward.

A different type of game this week from Jack who ended up spending a lot more time in the ruck than he typically does. He's an unconventionally effective ruckman at this level, not often able to get hit outs to advantage, but frequently able to use his physicality to push out his opponent and take direct possession of the footy, or follow up post tap with strong ground level efforts. Like most other players last weekend he struggled with his kicking effectiveness in the gale force winds, but showed some excellent judgement of the footy in flight to take a number of high degree of difficulty marks.

Noob... we don't want any talls who aren't dominant contested-marking beasts.
And they need to be at least 199cms.

Its not height we want, but power marks and mobile... who will crash the packs up forward.

This is why we kept Petty. He is our 2nd best contested mark. behind Maxy.
And 2Yrs time, Maxy will be almost cooked.

Then who takes the big grabs in the midfield, to keep us out of trouble.

Brown & Schache are now gone would you like to replace them with an 18 year old?
Yep.
Another JvR would be good, from our 2nd pick.

Who is to say that Jefferson will not be a defender, going forward.?

Some say he's not aggressive enough at the contest.? Maybe he's a budding key back.

IF we ever take a mature age player, make sure they have been already a very good afl player.
Like Goldy; he was the ideal spare ruck.

this is just wrong.

Building from kids is our way forward.

lets see:- Pickett, JvR, LJackson, Rivers, McVee, Chandler, Windsor, AMW, Oliver, Petracca, TMc, Gawn, ANB, Viney, Brayshaw. etc.

This is how we got here. and a Premiership.

Stringer, no thanks.

They didn't keep their list balanced enough. Age wise, and talent from the draft wise.
And now they are being poached from all angles.

Hardwick didn't look after the club well enough, and should have left the list in good shape.

We are about 2 - 3Yrs behind, where they find themselves now.

I said it at the end of last year but we really should have tried harder to replace Dunstan.

Having a strong reserves side is always helpful for the seniors.

We should go out and get a couple of the best state league midfielders with late or rookie picks this year. It’s a good year to do it as we are going to delist a few and will probably have an extra few late picks.

This is the problem of just having role players.

Bring in another soldier.

As the game opens up further, role players will give way to more specialised type players. See Daicos, etc.

I don't even think it has to be a strong side, mid table is decent enough

Of course though i still hate watching aligned clubs in the VFL get ****ed with the availability of players... but i also just kind of hate that once proud competition getting shit on by the AFL

Geelong,Dogs & Hawks there 2’s all played finals our 2’s are a mile off it clubs are as only good as there depth. We as a club have nothing coming through.

This really has become the thread for everything 😉

Miles Bergman has really impressed for Port this year. Out of contract next year, only 22 and a Vic boy who gets a bit homesick. Would be worth a look to sure up our aging backline.
Oops. Sorry. I thought this was the Harvest Snaps appreciation thread.

Some ITK over on DL reckons we got enquiries about Oliver and we said only for 2 first rounders and those who inquired are keen.

Might be a watch this space.

Maybe when Trac was off the market the buyers are now looking to settle for Temu Trac instead.
This is the good ITK too btw.

To be fair it’s looking like **** all else is on the trade table this year other than a the Richmond blokes going West and a whole **** lot of fringe players

Don't you go getting my hopes up this far out from trade week!

I'd be leaking a whole lot of, "Oliver at career best fitness" and Photoshopping the **** out of some training snaps leading up to it.
