I heard Clarry is heading to the US, maybe Utah this offseason to do a training camp to get his fitness back. Not sure if that’s true or not if anyone can confirm
That was reported at some point post season.
He also said today he would be commencing training on November 11 with the younger guys. So not sure if he can go on the US camp between now and then. But seems it wasn’t mentioned today.

He wasn't going to the US for training, it was suppose to be in QLD with Maxy Gawn.. but I suppose attending the races takes far more priority then wanting to give yourself every ounce of opportunity in getting fit after the year hea had..
Getting heavily on the gear while at the races gives your heart a good work out. Same/same.

Max is just in Queensland for a holiday, yeah?

Gawn's family holiday with Oliver. Attention Max gawn your son has been arrested. Attention Max gawn your older ginger fatter son has also been arrested.

I find it so embarrassing that Oliver gets treated like a teenager still. Bloke turns 28 next year ffs
Wasn't Gary Ablett snr similar? I remember some stories about that bloke being just as bad if not worse. Pretty sure there was an interview from a club official saying the club used to pay his bills because he had no idea how to do it and couldn't be bothered figuring it out so the club just did it for him. Some blokes are just built differently.

Uh, this probably isn't a great comparison.

Completely different era's to two completely different players.

There is simply no comparison.

The stuff that Clarry did over the last 18 months was completely unacceptable, period. You can't compare to Garry Ablett snrs.

Don't just say "Oh but Gary Ablett sr, did worse" No. Ablett Snr isn't responsible for Clarry.

I don't think that's the point Crusty Demon was trying to make. He's not justifying Clarry's behaviour because Ablett's behaviour.

Yeah definitely not comparing the two and what they've done on or off field. From what I hear GA was a lot worse than Clarry in a number of ways. Just highlighting that some players regardless of age need extra support, even to do simple things. Not saying it's right, but generally the better players will get that extra support from the club. The biggest issue is when they leave football and that support isn't there. GA and Cousins good examples of what can happen. I hope Clarry doesn't head into that territory. Some people are just wired differently and just because someone is turning 28 doesn't mean a person is all of a sudden going to smarten up. Ox as well had serious issues while at the club with gambling. Lost it all after football(i believe) but thankfully had an unbelievable wife who supported him through it. Whatever Clarry's issues are, they aren't going to simply disappear because he's 27.

Doesn't matter what era a player is from. Ablett, Cousins, Schwartz, Clarry etc. In fact mental health issues are vastly on the rise across the board. All these blokes still carried their issues well into post career. Like I've said, club's can support and monitor these guys closely while they are playing, but once they move away from that club environment it can fall apart quickly. I'm guessing this is a concern of the club. Not saying it's right or wrong, but these guys with issues can't just flick a switch and be different because they are getting a bit older.

Port just axed Tom Scully.

Imagine 2 more Sparrows in the team!!
IMO we have enough big bodied mids on the list, as of now. Tracca, Oli, Viney, Rivers, Sparrow, Tholstup... the thing we just don't have is, 'Class over the ground' from stoppages.

We need classy mids with lively feet, to get thru traffic with ball in hand... and deliver lace out to our forwards.

Foot speed and foot skills/smarts, is where i would be putting our draft capitol.

And i would keep a list spot open, to see if any rated players miss the draft cut. Rookie spot, or delisted pre season spot?

Age Article for Sunday paper:
Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver has broken his silence after the trade period, pledging to atone next year for his self-described “stinker” of a season in 2024.

Days after the Demons shut the door on a move to Geelong, the four-time best and fairest winner was pragmatic about the failed trade and is “keen to get back” to training with his Melbourne teammates when preseason formally starts next month.

The Dees kept their word in not trading Oliver, who had met several Cats players at ruckman Rhys Stanley’s farm heading into the player exchange period.
“That’s alright, Melbourne are looking good, we’ll be right,” Oliver said at the races at Caulfield, where a horse raced by his friend Darcy Mangan was victorious.

Oliver spoke bullishly of the Demons’ chances next year after a disappointing 2024 in which the club missed the finals for the first time since 2020.

Melbourne can spike next year if Christian Petracca gets a full season after having his year cut short by a serious internal injury and Oliver can return to the form which made him a force in the club’s drought-busting premiership in 2021.

Prized picks at five and nine in this year’s mooted super draft will provide further cause for optimism that the Dees can rise after tumbling to 14th.

“We were there a couple of years ago, we fell short 2022 and 2023, last year we had Gussy [Angus] Brayshaw retire, Trac [Christian Petracca] got injured, I had a stinker of a year, Maysy [Steven May] was a little bit off,” Oliver said.

Oliver said he was over the fitness issues that interrupted and disrupted his season.
“I’m alright, got my hand fixed up, metal plate taken out, my knee’s all good, I had a couple of broken ribs, they’re all fixed up,” Oliver said.
“I had a stinker but that’s all right, it happens.”
Oliver said he remained in constant contact with Petracca, who is training overseas in Europe after patching up differences with the club.
Olivier cut a relaxed figure at Caulfield, celebrating Niance’s victory in the listed Alinghi Stakes with friend Darcy Mangan, who runs Ace Bloodstock.

A lover of the turf, Oliver has part-shares in several horses but knocked back an offer to buy a share in the Grahame Begg-trained sprinter.
“I got offered it. He gave me first choice, but I was into the footy season, so just worried about that,” Oliver said.

Thoughts everyone???

He'll be a Cat... or elsewhere, for the 2026 season.

Depending on his ability to recharge his efforts, and his ball use.

2 x 1st Rndr's... plus a 2nd or 3rd Rnd pick should do it.

Otherwise, if he plays up again, we sack him and his contract... and he can walk.

I hope its not a way of taking a short cut to fitness.
I'll wait til as late as I can, then go to the Pro's O/S to get me in shape.

I hope its not a short cut clarry.

Oli is nowhere near GodS ability.

Ablett Snr also played midfield along the way.. he would just take the ball from Oli's grasp... & if he were matched up and if Oli didn't release it, Ablett would just take Oli with the ball into the F50... oli along for a ride.
