I wonder if the retention of Craven is pending who is available in the later part of the draft. If we have two prospects available to us who are high on our draft board do we select 4 players, overlook Craven and recruit Day?

Or is the more likely option if we draft 4 that we retain Craven and pass on Day?

If reports were right that we told Craven and Joyce we would re draft them I would be surprised if we reneged on that commitment unless we told them it was a possibility depending on who else is available.

Most draftees are in that situation. Would whoever gets selected by Richmond at pick 6 be pissed they didn’t make him the number 1 pick?

Depends on your stage of rebuild, what you need, etc.

Also depends on if they need a Rayner type to stick around.

At the same time though if you get picked at pick twenty you surely know that the club would trade you in a heartbeat to get the number one pick of that year.

Obviously it's different when you get to later rounds, but in the top 20 or so? I'd feel differently if I were in their shoes. The top 20 is where you are expected to start the build of a team from.

Yeah I don’t think any of these late pick trades are a sign of a change in our selections, just pure maths to maximise points.
