I'd say given our form line and the blues being quite solid that we're more unlikely than likely to win this.

As many have said a lot of this will come down to the midfield battle, and our ability to defend on transition.
Fyfe and Young will be very important to combat the weaknesses that Carlton have exposed previously.

You'd love one of Cox or Darcy back for this game, preferably the former, but even with Cox in we'd struggle if we don't slow down the ball movement.

If we turn up sharper than we did against Adelaide, more akin to the Brisbane game then we're in with a chance.
If we don't then Carlton's twin towers will be too good to effectively defend the turnovers.

Carlton's back 6 is not as good as I thought. McGovern and Kemp (likely replacement for Marchbank) on Treacy and Taberner, should be a win for us.
Who ever is on McGovern must stop him marking the ball.

Cripps, Cerra, Hewett vs Brayshaw, Serong, Fyfe should be a win for us.

Obviously, McKay and Curnow is a big win for them, but if we control the midfield and slow the ball down it should be ok. If they get a lot of 1v1 opportunities, especially who is not on Pearce then we will be in trouble.

BLUES

B: C.Marchbank, J.Weitering, Z.Williams
HB: A.Saad, M.McGovern, N.Newman
C: O.Hollands, P.Cripps - C, B.Acres
HF: M.Owies, H.McKay, M.Kennedy
F: E.Hollands, C.Curnow, L.Fogarty
FOLL: T.De Koning, A.Cerra, G.Hewett

I actually rate that backline apart from Marchbank/Kemp.

Agree stopping the intercept marking is key. This is a game where Jackson forward would have been really helpful match up wise. I think Tabs’ defender will roll off all game.

That said, I think the midfield is what matters most, can see either team edging the other.

If we keep bully boy Crisps floundering in the centre, Pearce dominates Mackay, Draper turns in a game worthy of a Rising Star nomination, both Jackson and Amiss put on a clinic, and my old mate Bailey kicks a couple of very handy goals, we win this.

Too easy😎

Carlton board saying Cripps has just had his baby this morning.
If so then I’m guessing he’ll be playing.

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com
Surely the baby is too young to play, that’s ultimate disrespect to us on the part of Carlton.

Edit: though to be fair, may be more mobile than the old man.

That's a lot of ifs.

Acres will get a shock when he sees his old mate Hayden Young 💜💜💜

Hmm just watched that video. where did the umpires steal the game from Freo. There was a free kick awarded down field after a late bump by Fremantle player on the Carlton player kicking the ball in from a deliberate out of bounds. Fremantle are my team, but looks like lack of discipline caused the loss not Umpires

Docherty played on outside the boundary line and ran 10m before re-entering the field of play, and it should have been called a throw in or at best for Carlton he was made to take his kick again.

The down field free kick was then placed about 10m closer to goal than it should have been. Look at where it lands near the cameraman/fence, and simple geometry (straight line back to Docherty) shows it crossed the line near the 50m line, about where #40 is waving his hands around before he knew it was a down field kick. They also gave the ball to the incorrect person who was a longer kick. It should have been a midget kicking from 55m, and the ball wouldn't have even made the distance.

Three absolute howlers where if even one was judged correctly then Freo win. And 2 calls against Taberner and Brayshaw that while I can admit were correct, I am also certain they would not have been paid against Carlton at the MCG or Marvel.

Interesting interpretation.

I am sure many if not most will agree with you.

The hatred of Carlton by Freo supporters is an interesting thing, many of their supporters are bemused/surprised by said hatred - as a club we really don't rate in their collective realm of Carltank Consciousness. Personally, I haven't had too many negative experiences with Carlton supporters (even at Optus/Subi home games) - there can be no comparison with Blues supporters to Richmond, Collingwood and St Kilda flogs who've nearly driven my pacifism to its absolute brink upon occasion over the years.

In our dominant era of 2012-2015 we dispatched them regularly, even during our dreadful rebuilding phase up until 2019 we beat them often. It was that last gasp victory in 2019 that they never should've won that started it, and then in 2020 the same circumstances at Optus but with massive Umpiring support. Outside of that 35pt win in 2022 they've bullied and smacked us around regularly.

The other evidence would point to them stealing Cerra and Acres off us, and the drafting-w***ery with Liam Henry back in the day.

Is there anything else I've missed?

It’s mainly a bigfooty thing. Aside from what you’ve said, the Carlton posters are often quite… confident, particularly for following a team that hasn’t done much in 20 years.

They also were off course the team that took Motlop when in our NGA

Sure, but outside of that, what have they done that's so terrible?

If it had been at the MCG and the Blues tapped it out of bounds it would have been a throw in. Game over.

They literally pride themselves on having massive egos, they call it swagger. Pretty sad.

Judd splitting Pav open with an elbow. No case to answer. He then won the Brownlow. Meanwhile Fyfe gets robbed of a Brownlow due to a bulldust suspension.

Cripps acting all tough man by taking cheap shots against Brayshaw and Serong when they were teenagers. Dropping elbows and knees into them at the bottom of packs and that sort of thing. Trying to rough them up in general. Wouldn't dare try it on Fyfe. Can't stand Cripps as a footballer (seems like a nice enough guy off the field though). Another Blues player who won a Brownlow when he should have been suspended.

The VFL making us a play a home game against Carlton at the MCG after already playing them once in Melbourne. To rub salt into the wounds, I have never seen a side dominate by so much yet lose. So very Freo.
