Josh Sinn has been widely considered a frontrunner to replace two-time All-Australian Dan Houston in Port Adelaide’s backline next year.
The former first-round draft pick is showing promising signs that he can vindicate those opinions. The 21-year-old has only played 10 games for the Power because of injury issues since being selected at pick 12 in the 2021 draft.
After going to America with teammates Jason Horne-Francis and Lachie Jones, Sinn looked leaner and moved impressively at the Power’s pre-season training session at Alberton on Friday.
During match-play Sinn was stationed in the backline and while some of his kicking might have been too ambitious, he provided drive that could have been lacking after Houston’s switch.
When his kicking did come off it was extremely impressive and if Sinn can keep his body right then Power fans might finally get to see why the club rates him so highly. While it wasn’t full match-sim there were still a couple of insights into what the Power might be thinking when it comes to who plays where in 2025.
Esava Ratugolea was back in defence after his late-season dalliance with the forward line.
New recruit Jack Lukosius was playing as a key forward for most of the day, working well with Todd Marshall — who while still wearing the pink hat was right amongst it in match-play.
Draftee Joe Berry spent time on Power star Zak Butters and had some nice moments.
Jeremy Finlayson was back in full training after recovering from a lacerated spleen, while key defender Aliir Aliir put in a gruelling running session on the sidelines.

From the above article, watch out for JHF in 2025.

His kicking and fitness were exemplary, and he worked as hard on the track as Zak Butters who is the absolute benchmark.

Moraes is continuing to impress.

The comments about Moraes were very interesting ...

Christian Moraes
The draftee impressed last week and continued to do so on Friday. Clubs do like to ease draftees into it but in potentially a sign of how much the Power already likes him Moraes was involved in one of the half-field drills on Friday, as his fellow draftees watched on from the sidelines. He took a fine contested mark as he continues to hold his own with his more experienced Power teammates.

Josh Sinn needs to fix his ball drop before he ever plays consistent footy at half back

“When his kicking did come off…”

Yikes
I much prefer Sinn continue to practice being “ambitious” with his kicking from the back line. Practice will improve him, mistakes will teach him, and will increase the number of times his kicking is “extremely impressive.”

It was one of the differences between Cahill and Ebert as coaches. If you went for the ambitious kick and missed it under Russell the runner would come out and you would get dragged. If you did it under Jack, the runner would come out and say he knows what you were trying to do, don't stop but get it right.

Moraes is gunning for Boaks spot.

Moraes is gunning for Boaks spot.
He’s almost the perfect type of midfielder for us. A player who’s handy in clearances but most adept as a running, endurance-based link up player. Well suited to the wing but also able to kick goals from HF. Given that Butters, JHF, Drew and Rozee should be dominating the centre square for a few years to come, Moraes and Lorenz are the ideal type of midfielders to complement them. Jackson too if he could stay fit and come good.

A four-game pre-season suspension derailed the Port Adelaide leader's season before it really got going, and then an ACL rupture against St Kilda in round seven ended his 2024 campaign. Powell-Pepper's bullocking style will be welcomed back into the Power's mix, complementing Willie Rioli and pressure forward Jed McEntee at the feet of key targets Mitch Georgiades and Todd Marshall. Now coming into his ninth year in the AFL and turning 27 in January, Powell-Pepper should be ready to go and add extra grunt to Port's already formidable forward half.

That summary does an excellent job at completely ignoring the players we've traded for and drafted.

All about the pressurey.. goals pfft.

The funny thing is that Jed is one of the best finishers on the whole team, would be nice if he and the rest of them didn't have to do it with 34 players in our attacking 50 at all times.
