How did this even occur. AFL is an absolute joke. All clubs in opening round playing each other the next week isn't hard to organise. Bloody ridiculous.

We will get pumped come round 1. Personally think the season starts round 2.

It is difficult when you factor in the requirement for the 'traditional' Carlton v Richmond season opener as well as the now also 'traditional' Essendon v Hawthorn season opener.

I am excited to hear that rookie Joe Berry has made a strong impact of preseason and is going to play Round 1.

To possibly have a guy who can be an attacking player to complement the underrated value of Willie Rioli and the hard running of Sam Powell-Pepper is exciting. We also have the unknown quantity of Joe Richards with Byrne-Jones on the back end of the small to medium forwards.

What was a real weakness last year could be turned into a strength overnight.

The Internal Trial in March idea won’t work.

Either you play 2 even competitive teams for a proper hitout (but not team synergy/coherence) or you play Probables v Unlikeliest for an uncompetitive waste of time.

Every chance that in R1 2025, Rioli is the only surviving forward from R1 2024.

This isn't a social competition.
It is a business.

Agree, but most of us did undervalue DBJ’s 2024 season. It will be tight for the two spots between him, Richards and Berry. Although Mead plays a slightly different role, his position as a high HF going up to contest the stoppages seems even more vulnerable.

Mead is next to useless in any half forward role. Not a goalkicker, can't kick over a jam jar. His value is as midfield depth and that is mainly feeding the ball out.

DBJ is much better value as a half forward with dangerous goal-scoring half forwards around him. He can play a defensive role and bob up for an unlikely goal.

I'm actually a bit bullish about us having a strong minor round, our forward line looks much better than last year and I think the loss of Houston can be covered with a tweak of game plan.

That will put some serious pressure on our decision-makers
