Our forward set up at the moment would be…

Locks: MG, Luko, Rioli, SPP

Lord, Finlayson, Ratugolea, Soldo and Visentini have the fight to claim that last tall spot.

Then there is 2 spots for DBJ, Berry and Richards while the 3rd out of these 3 could be the sub as well.

Plus also have to take into the equation that Butters/JHF/Rozee will often be resting there as well

Hope Esava is training as a forward with Marshall out for season now
Nup. We have very little depth of tall defenders. Esava wasn’t the solution late last year as a CHF.

It needs to be Lord, or one of Soldo or Visentini, with Finlayson or Whitlock a long way back unless their form is irrepressible.

Mead is next to useless in any half forward role. Not a goalkicker, can't kick over a jam jar. His value is as midfield depth and that is mainly feeding the ball out.

DBJ is much better value as a half forward with dangerous goal-scoring half forwards around him. He can play a defensive role and bob up for an unlikely goal.

I'm actually a bit bullish about us having a strong minor round, our forward line looks much better than last year and I think the loss of Houston can be covered with a tweak of game plan.

That will put some serious pressure on our decision-makers ;)

I like your optimism but if it's the same decision makers, the decision making won't change.

Agreee on esava but I feel that finlayson is the best equipped player to take that second ruck role. I know people have had their issues with him not jumping in the ruck contests but I think he will have first crack with lord as first backup. If he can get his head in the game, which is understandably difficult, he could be very handy as a third tall, almost flanker if we play a less congested and more mobile forward gameplan.

Having said that I could see them going totally left field and playing both of soldo and Sweet, but that just leaves us too top heavy and immobile in my view.

Gotta be a bit horses for courses you'd think. DBJ is a defensive forward. Richards and Berry are offensive forwards. No?

Don’t think Richards is an Offensive weapon as a small forward, not a Riolli or Stephen Milne. He is a work horse who is very good both ways. I think he is better suited to a Wing/Midfield role than a small forward.

Gorilla forwards rely on having good crumbers. In 2024 we only had BIGWILLIESTYLES as an offensive forward. If we can get Berry and Pep in to that mix, then they may also improve the value we can get from Rat.

This sounds word for word like what people were saying about Narkle
Richards is a lot quicker than narkle. I also think he will be better in that hybrid higher up the ground role assisting with ball movement. But will be adequate when it’s his turn to play as a deeper crumber while others are resting.

From the limited exposed form I have witnessed, he is an upgrade in every way imaginable on Narkle, who I did not mind. However, let’s not forget he was plucked out of Wangaratta Rovers only a couple of years ago.
