Does anyone know if we can actually list 2 SSP players? The list has one spot, but can you actually use a second on an LTI at this time? I mean what would happen if Marshall was miraculously ready for round 20? Can't just dump the player off the list.

Think if you place someone on the LTI then they're ruled out for the season (i.e cannot play even if they are fit late in the season). Then you can take 2 SSP players.

Question is whether we rule out Marshall now or want to give him a chance. Obviously not upto me but my view is that we should put him on LTI and ensure he has a year off and takes the time to focus on recovering from his concussion issues.

Wish 2nd ruck wasn't as big of an issue for us.

Fwd - MG and Luko are locks, and I really would've liked us to have gone small after those 2 with Rioli, SPP, Richards, DBJ, Berry. Those 7 are versatile and can create a fluid forward line and would genuinely force us to completely remove the bombing into inside 50

Mids - JHF, Butters, Rozee, Wines, Drew, Burgoyne, Lorenz

Defenders - Aliir, BZT, Bergman, Evans, Jones, Farrell, Sinn

Sweet as ruck and imo Boak as sub only

That's how I'd have lined up if either Luko or Aliir could have played 2nd ruck but unfortunately they can't. This is also why I would've really liked us to have played Finlayson in SANFL as a 3rd tall defender last year. Started his career at GWS as one and was fine. Then he could play the 3rd tall def and 2nd ruck role.

Now we're forced to play one of Esava, Lord or Whitlock to have a 2nd ruck option and 2 of them I don't really think are good forward options and one of them is brand new to AFL.

Stupid not to rule Marshall out now, everything happens for a reason and when we wouldn’t give him 12 months to get the head right, the footy gods snapped an Achillies for him.

Clearest sign ever to give the bugger a year off.

For anyone who has been at a training session or match sim, is there any evidence of a change in gameplan or the method we move the ball into the forward line?
Bomb it to Luko

A bit of discussion coming through the media and from the odd club interview (Sweet, Cornes) talking up Berry and Atkins as the most impressive of the new recruits. I haven't heard much fanfare yet about Richards or Lukosius. Similarly, not a lot being said about the development of key younger players (e.g., Sinn, Lorenz).

Any observations on those guys from people who watch training?

Thanks

Todd to LTI.
Spot then open for Watto.

There's already a spot available. This would be a second spot, so then do we use that to take Watkins and Lai, or a Marshall-type like Hayes or save it for the mid-season draft.

Lukosius has been very impressive with his skill and mobility when I have been to open trainings. He's the best kick in the team from my observations. Effortless from 60 meters out. Farrell like mechanical efficiency with longer levers. He's not someone you bomb the ball to, so he's not to be used like Charlie was but provided his team mates work to his strengths he'll be a huge addition. He's so gifted athletically he looks laconic but that is simply because he's so smooth and efficient. I'd like to see more defensive pressure and aggression but hopefully that comes out more against real opposition.

Richards is also highly skilled and has really good speed. Set shot kicking is great and he is just as good snapping or kicking on the run. I'd rate him the best small we have for goal kicking but Berry may be just as good. He's not physically imposing, so slow ball movement will mean he's able to be negated by bigger stronger defenders. His pace works to an advantage when he applies pressure to a defender but I'm not sure how he goes in making a tackle stick. Overall he's a significant improvement on Frankie and Narkle in my opinion.

Sinn and Lorenz both look very confident and are impressing. Sinn has a bit less upper body bulk from my observations, hopefully that translates to less leg muscle injuries. His pace and long kicking are standing out along with his assured manner. Lorenz has shown a bit of pace too and although he's still likely on the periphery of the best 23, he's looking capable of holding a spot when he gets the chance.

One thing that does concern me a bit is the over emphasis on handball, run and gun and short kicking at training. I hope this is not the game plan because we know good defensive teams will eat this up.

Appreciate such a detailed reply. Hope all four improve our fortunes in 2025.
