Lukosius is the definition of a training track star. His talent has never been in question. I bet you he's kicking bags for fun in intra club work. His hardness, work rate and competitiveness are absolutely the question marks on him, when he hits the ground in a real game against desperate opposition and they have been for years. I ain't getting my hopes up on Luko until I've seen how he's performing by mid year.

Or we could have just appointed Butters.

FWIW, I don’t have a major issue with the Rozee appointment. Unlike Shaun Burgoyne who was overlooked for a far inferior player against the coach’s wish at the time, I don’t think Butters’ inclination to stay or leave the club will hinge on the fact he wasn’t appointed captain. If Butters leaves it will be for family reasons, much like has happened for many others. I fear the growing trend for players to go home (JHF, Houston, Amon in our recent experience) and for our club to be so accommodating of it, does make it easier for Butters and Bergman to follow suit. You just hope the examples of Wines, Boak, Gray and Drew convince them otherwise.

I leaned towards butters for captain but I can definitely see why they went rozee.

Both weren’t ready if we are being honest but the strength and weaknesses of the two as leaders would’ve complemented each other nicely, and perhaps less pressure if they shared the load. Other clubs have had co captains without the sky falling in and I’m open to change.

The only other option was Wines, and in hindsight the time to give it to Wines for a 3 year period was at the start of 2023. Letting Jonas hang on for one more year as captain was a mistake and Wines would’ve been a fine stop gap for when rozee or butters were genuinely ready to lead the team with a new coach at the start of 2026.

Bloody hell willsy.

Stop posting.. your ****ing drunk.

Yeah I knew it wasn’t going to be popular, I don’t think it would’ve been the worst outcome. They would’ve bounced off each other nicely I reckon but anywho.

I must admit though I get really worried about the rumours of butters leaving and it was in response to the suggestion that we need to pick up Watkins to keep him happy when the more obvious thing to do would’ve been making him captain.

But then again, that’s not appointing a captain for the right reasons. But it’s genuinely concerning our best player isn’t locked in long term.

Make every interstate recruit co-captain, so none of them ever leave. I think you've hit on something - good call

He’s our best player, not just any interstate recruit but yeah it was an against the grain suggestion. I don’t want butters leaving.

Neither Rozee or Butters are natural leaders. They're trying to mould them into leaders and that's fine but don't expect premierships when your on field leaders have training wheels.

Not to mention the Club's leadership program is run by our favourite disruptor, Holly.

Hugely unpopular opinion here but i think Butters and Rozee would've made good co captains, and also would've eliminated any concerns of Butters leaving. Whilst i prefer the one captain model for most situations sometimes where there is no clear standout as leader and two guys that both seem equally qualified is it actually as catastrophic of an idea as many made it out to be when we did it with Jonas and Wines.

Bringing Watkins over is a bit of a worry.

Dyl Williams observation, please?
Williams looks very fit (better than I have ever seen him) and he's slimmed his frame significantly. As a result he has picked up in pace and agility. His composure with the ball and his kicking is really impressive. He looks very determined, like someone who knows their time to cement a spot has reached a critical point. I hope he can make it because Williams at his best is a cool head and great user of the ball.

In a lot of ways he’s the most like-for-like as a Houston replacement.

Similar size and build.
Good footy brain.
Good composure.
Good overhead and intercepting mark.
Nice kick (albeit left foot).

He needs Houston’s intensity, work rate and agility which together made up for Dan’s lack of explosive pace.

I’m excited for Dylan Williams this year and hoping he can recapture his 2023 form.

With Houston gone, there’s now plenty more room for him so I hope he can take his chance.
HIs 2024 would have to be right up there with most disappointing seasons ever. Went completely backwards and reverted to pre 2023 form. Barely played and when he did, he looked miles off it. Unless there were unreported injury issues, it really raises some questions about his ethos - level of effort and desire.

Agree, which is why I have such low expectations of him this year.

Needs to gain a yard or two of pace and he’ll be fine.

Hopefully the new body shape is for that.

How the hell did they happen when our 2004 Premiership captain is on the panel

Though I'm not certain, I'm fairly sure Holly has been running the leadership program far longer than Tredrea has been on the Board.

Footy department has kept Tredrea at arm's length. He's on the footy committee and provides input there, but he has no dealings with the actual operation of the department.

It shows. People like Holly are the reason everyone who isnt a narcissist doesnt want to work in the office.
