Hawthorn Football Club wishes to advise that its Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 12 December 2024.

Unfortunately I have other commitments and can’t attend.

It should be a really interesting AGM with Dingley development progressing, the AFL team achieving above expectations this year and drawing towards the end of the Tassie deal.

Don Scott wants a board seat according to the latest email from Gowers
But has "declined to go through the Nominations Committee process."

Sorry then, Don. 👋

Honestly - I am grateful, eternally so, for everything Don Scott has done for the club as a player and as the public face of Operation Payback. We all owe him a debt of gratitude. That being said - **** off, mate. You have publicly stated on multiple occasions you don't attend our games any more or have any interest in the club. Running for the board isn't for grandstanding and point scoring. Now we have a complete waste of money for an election. Hoping beyond hope that he is soundly defeated.

If you want to get involved in the club, Don, how about you come and watch some games?

76 years old. Jesus. Is this like the old man who has nothing better to do than be a neighbourhood watchman?
to be honest, in so many ways he is so very similar to the other attention seeker we just got rid of.

Hawthorn legend Don Scott nominates for election to Hawks’ board

After saving the club from a merger with Melbourne in the 1990s, Scott has decided to run for one of the two vacant seats on the board.

I'm ok with an election being held if a candidate still chooses to run despite not being endorsed by the board or nominations committee. It's important to maintain the democratic process and avoid situations like we had with Kennett exceeding term limits (ironically put in place by him) and setting up succession for seats at the table with people aligned to the President rather than the club.

Happy for Don to throw his hat in the ring even though I won't be voting for him. But I do think he should have taken part in the nominations process first or at least taken Gowers up on the offer for a personal meeting. I don't think he should have any reason to believe the nominations committee wouldn't be impartial.

If he is just running to be an agitator, then he is wasting members money the same way he claimed Gowers would be if the club settled the racism case.

Assume they hold the AGM at Waverley now as they don’t really want attendees. Used to enjoy going to the town hall - easy to access.

Already announced today that it’ll be at Waverley.

If that's the case then it at least forces any media person wanting to find out to have to buy a 3 game membership.

Even Derm when I asked last week as to what Don could bring to the board couldn’t give an answer other than “well he’s really good at being in opposition to whatever other people are saying and sometimes you need that on a board”.

He then went on to say “ what experience or things Don could bring to the board that could help the club…He’d probably need to convince me of that”.

Do you though? You don't want a board full of Yes Men and it's definitely good to have someone capable of putting forth opposing views every now and then, but there's quite a difference between that and being an antagonising prick. Can't really say where exactly Don falls into that spectrum, but I'd be willing to bet it's closer to the latter than we'd like/need.

I think the fact that not even Derm could explain what exactly Don could bring to the board other than just being someone who would be in opposition to other people’s opinions said a lot.
