[Is it a rule to include a mention to Schultz in every single article about freo? Especially that exact photo? Like they really just insist on finding a way to bring it up at every opportunity.]

Part of the sport reporting contract, along with billing Harley 2-games Bennell as a Dockers player first and foremost.

"...there was a lot of flesh smacking on flesh". The West's training notes appear to be written by someone wanting to write in a different genre.
They need more practice.

Hope we don't * around and extend him soon.

Yea that’s not how we roll. We’ll wait till he’s played every game & kicked 20+ goals half way through the season & Vic clubs are putting 2-3 years in front of him & then we’ll begrudgingly start offering another single year deal with clauses.

That’s after we’ve locked away Corbett, Hughes, Worner & Banfield for 5 more years

I've been down for a few months, my Mum passed away in July and I'm executor of her estate and its been doing my head in dealing with all the crap one needs to to wind up an estate.

But yeah I've been extremely disappointed in the way the club has handled list management the last few years. Signing up players who aren't AFL standard while letting really key players go. Hamling and Shultz were icing on the cake.

I just don't understand how you can't make the effort to keep a premiership level backup defender like Hamling around. Its the ultimate opposite moneybag style of list management, just like Acres was. Yes I know its an old argument and its been done to death.

I'm sorry if my current style of negative posting is bothering some people (and I appreciate your asking about my mental health).

Yes I like to have a vent her sometimes, its my way of working through negativity at times.

I'm fine and I have good support around me, I'm just not seeing the world through rose coloured glasses at the moment.

I’m really sorry to hear about your mum along with the added stress of being the executor of the estate. Your posts write what I’m saying in my head.

I quite like Sturt and hope that we extend his contract soon.

Sorry to hear about that mate. Sounds like you've a good support network and at least are realistic and accepting of where you stand emotionally. Accepting you're a bit down, especially for valid reasons is important. The wheel will turn!

On the footy stuff, i'm 100% with you. I feel the same and am equally quite negative towards the club these days, which i dont like to be, but that's just where i'm at! I feel like my positive energy has been burnt out after 28yrs of limited success, poor club management etc. and I really dont have anything left to give - then as you say losing Schultz and Hamling to me were also the "icing on the cake".

Like i said on another thread, right now it's easier (emotionally) to expect failure and be surprised when we win, than the other way around. Not a great way to be but i'm struggling to find the energy to hope. I've been through too many pre-seasons where you get excited by the kids and how fit they are, return to form of senior players etc, full of hope for the season ahead, only to witness loss after loss as the mob down the road rise and ultimately achieve success. The club media post so much positive, hopeful stuff, but we've seen it all before. This stuff doesnt excite me anymore. wins on the park and strgon competitive games do.

Wife wonders why i'm so pessimistic about Freo's chances and general direction all the time. I say to her - "that's what 28 years of frustration and going backwards will do to a man". As a casual supporter up until 2 years ago, I don't expect her to understand, but she gets it in fleeting moments. ^This was one of them.

It's a sign of a strong character.

Sorry about your mum mate - hard even when expected and the executor stuff is something having done, I understand the extra load combine with grief isn't easy.

To the team stuff - I am glad Bell has been moved and think he should have been moved out of the club. These are massive misses. Acres not on one wing not only hurt us last season and likely this it hurts development of younger players. Shultz should have been locked up before the start of the season. There are/were ten players minimum on the main list that should have been booted if needed to make way.

So now we lose a small forward who should have helped lead the next generation when Sonny leaves, and we get younger and less experienced again. Hopefully the new head of footy gets us on the right track. My hopes aren't high though, sadly.

This is ridiculous. He was. it the trigger and had a contract for 2024.

He was offered 4 years, which he turned down, and the club was working through a 2 year extension. (on top of the existing 1 year he had triggered for 2024 anyway).

He was never staying, the club was hopeful of another year or two from him.

Seems like whatever happened with his gfs family in the past 12 months or whatever that he alluded to ended any chance of us keeping him long term. The only way we could have avoided that was extending him long term in 2022. Which made no sense considering he signed a deal in 2021, and still had two years (with the trigger) left on his contract. Ironically if he didn't have that extra year trigger then we probably would have tried to extend him long term in mid to late 2022 and probably could have kept him until the end of 2026ish.

I still don't think it matters. We've traded plenty of players with multiple years still on their contract. Once they offer big overs, you really need to take it and move on.

It's not like he's irreplaceable, structurally vital or a leader.

Agree with above.

There seems be a fair amount of negativity around the place. I'm in the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" school. At times you need to make decisions, some you make, some forced on you.

Now that the smoke has cleared, it appears that Schult was going to leave (pull on the curley's + family + Collingwood). No amount of money from Freo or re-assurances was going the change his mind. Accept his decision, and this club gets the best compensation.

Acres in good form was a need, but it opened the door for Henry. Acres out allowed a youngster to get a chance in his position. The query was about Acres periods of "so so form", and Freo felt he was expendable V upcoming talent.

Henry was going, that is the simple fact.

Hammer was going to be delisted 3 weeks before the end of the season (this boards consensus), is that a Freo stuff up for letting him go to a multi year Sydney offer ?.

Yin & Yang to me. You need to look at decision's in the short & long term.
