Not so sure on that. May also mean a player has an awareness that coming into an AFL system mid season, from a lower level, and doing enough to not be the easy cut a the end of the season, is a big ask.

Well yes, it's not necessarily the 8 or so worst players on the list getting cut each year, it's the ones that don't already have a contract for the following year. You can simply be unlucky to be without a chair when the music stops. Best defence is to never get to the second half of the season without a contract.

That's obvious, but for the Club's benefit knowing whether they should never have been selected in the first place, or if we just failed to develop any of them would help. Can't believe within that 20-25 we couldn't even develop a handful to be bog standard role players at AFL level.
If we want to have an honest look at it, you'll find the majority of players delisted by any club don't get picked up by anyone else. I mean, Collingwood delisted six after winning the flag last year and none of them are on another list - does that mean their development program is terrible, too?

18 month terms is fools gold imo unless you really are assured that you're rated an AFL level player imo.

6 months makes you a more attractive prospect and getting a bonus 12 months on a list if it's clear to all in Sunbury you're not up to it a few months in, is probably actually an opportunity cost to better uses of your time.

I'm looking forward to the melts when we pass with our second pick.

It'll be the same deal as last year. We had one or two we liked but they were gone so we passed. I know our list isn't great in particular at the bottom end but it makes no sense to add a player to the list for the sake of it, with two LTI's and the extended rookie list no guarantee (however likely). I'd rather we held the list spots for a player from another club or a 2024 draft prospect.

Unfortunately far too many here/online think the saviour could have been taken at pick 19 in the years worst draft.

Especially if they are after an 18 month contract

I'm completely with you. We have 8-10 players on our list that we thought might make it, but won't. We probably need a change of approach, but taking players that we don't think will make it would be an interesting way to go about it.

Would be lazy by us

There will definitely be KPF available at that second pick so may as well give it a try
No. If we don't rate them, we shouldn't take them. Our development team are struggling with the kids we already have. We don't need to waste their time on some random, just so us supporters can have a shiny new toy.

If they can’t handle one extra kid for 6 months without maintaining effort in rest of list sack them on the spot

We need to trial another KPF and with the flexibility to cull in 6 months it is low effort/risk for maybe high reward

It's incomprehensible to me that wouldn't take two players for 6 months given our situation.

It'd be a pisstake. There are hundreds of players who weekly beat the shit out of our VFL team. We can't find two of them?

Give it a rest.
Why in 6 months time you will only be complaining about the 2 that we picked.

Even if we don’t rate a kpf we should take someone like Jez McLennan or Brynn Teakle or Cooper Keogh for ruck depth

The counter argument is with our 2nd pick every other club with arguably better drafting staff would have passed on them.
