Frost, Scrimshaw, Sicily and Weddle is still a tall backline. Add in Phillips and that may be too tall
Out of those four only Sicily has the ability to stand the really big, talented key forwards.

Frost, Weddle and Scrimmers better suit s in second / third talls or even smalls in Frosts case.

Much rather give Phillips the role as the stopper on the likes of McKay, Hawkins, etc and let Sic do his thi g roaming free across half back

Seems to be backline players for some reason is there training routine different to other parts of the team.

The Hawks however will be without a few familiar faces for Friday's game, with Karl Amon and Luke Breust (managed) missing the clash, alongside several injured Hawks including Will Day (foot) and Dylan Moore (illness).

For those unable to make the trip to Whitten Oval, the match will be broadcast live on Fox Footy, available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

You can stay up to date with all the action from the day across hawthornfc.com.au and HawthornFC on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Anyone know what parking is like at whitten oval for the praccy game tomorrow, I’ve had a look on google maps and there seems to be a decent sized carpark right out the front of the oval but I’ve also read that it’s not accessible to the public. Anyone been or know anything?
There is plenty of street parking in walking distance , you might just have to drive around a bit

Difficult to see how Phillips doesn't play the majority of matches for the year now.

It's a bit of a case of last man standing regarding our KPD stocks!
Shouldn't change anything. Don't think we were expecting to see much if any McCabe this year.

Dogs' squads are interesting. Mixing senior players between the two matches.

Poor Box Hill players having to line up on the Bont lol

Well all the talk on Phillips is that he is an elite interceptor/ball reader and loves to turn defence into attack.

Could he play the Sicily role and leave Sic to man the KD post, win one on ones and still do his thing?

Nope...he cant kick like the Sic which is where the pain is really brought.

Think our S&C team is doing the wrong type of wrestling.

Ok, I'm sick of writing this as people probably are of reading it. So one last time

- we have plenty of tall defending options despite a few injuries. This isnt really an issue as much as people seem to want it to be . We just need to get the mix of personal right , then apply decent downfield pressure .
Get that right and we are laughing as our defence looks so versatile and skilled in the air and ground
- Blanck is a good prospect , but he was never stopping the 'gorilla's' anyway without all around the ground help.
Not many clubs have the 6'5-6'7 monster hence why an average player like Ben Mckay got big bucks .
  • injuries are annoying but DGB and Mcabe weren't best 22 . DGB has become Chris Langford since his injury . I really like DGB but seriously .
  • very good AFL forwards exist at all clubs . If we fail in the pressure area all over the ground , they will kick goals on us . And any team for that matter .

The lack of 'tall' defenders just seems an easy default reaction . It may have been try a few years ago . Not now .
