How did our KPF set up?

FF: Chol
CHF: Lewis

Or it wasn't so formally structured & they moved around a bit?

Thanks!

Chol and Lewis spent most of the game swapping on/off the field. Lewis was watching on for a while (well I thought at least).

Lewis did move up the ground a bit more than Chol - who was absolutely the stand out player. He took multiple huge marks and had about 6 shots on goal.

Since Xmas he’s shown really good intensity ….. sounds like he won a few more coffees today again 👍😄. This must be giving the coaching staff a lot of confidence to work with.

Wardy got caught a couple of times in some shocking fashion in 2022 but can't recall him getting caught in 2023. Mackenzie will work that out of his game.

I had memories of it happening to one of our recent draftees. Couldn’t remember if it was Day or someone. You’re right - definitely Ward. Mackenzie will evolve through it.

Who was manning up Chol?

That’s the challenge with match sims - fo lot every stand out player there’s an opponent who’s not performing.

They were all swapping around at different times. Sicily Blanket and Scrimmers all had a crack 1-1. Sicily looked like a grade prep vs a grade 6 standing next to him .

On Chol- first contest of the game he was involved in a poor kick to him on a lead that put him under a hospital ball and I think it was Imps that smashed into him. He went down on hands and knees, eventually got up dusted himself off and got going again which is a good sign.

I figure that when these young mids improve to the point that they're spending more time in the contest and finding the ball in their hands more often it's also going to mean an increase in the opportunities for them to get caught out. Getting used to that is something that will lag behind. All part of the development.

One of the greatest things I saw today was a mismatch were Sic ended up on Watson :tearsofjoy:

Getting the dynamic inside 50 right will be super important. Chol and Lewis are not quick when the ball hits the deck so we are going to need tackling/pressure machines around them to lock it in.

Mitch Lewis getting stuck into Weddle at one point, not sure how serious but seemed nearly a bit of biffo.

Words I heard "yeah you just worry bout the ball mate" or something similar.

Not sure which little fella he's flying the flag for, but I enjoyed it.
7NEWS website once they see this post: Hawthorn star Mitch Lewis sparks heated scuffle during fiery pre-season training session

Just a find and replace on the Sicily/Butler article from last preseason.

Did you by chance notice the bit of play that created this between the two?

Day used to get caught a fair bit.

I blame a part of it to our stagnant forward line. It was almost as if some of them were allergic to making a lead at times.

Weddle and Watson were going at it harder, then once that stopped Lewis went at Weddle.

I get the feeling watching highlights and reading reports that we're going to play some exciting footy this year but we still have a lot of development to go.

Maybe 6 months behind our 2007 season?
Was thinking about this the other day. I'd have us around the 2006 mark I think, although it's possible that if it all clicks into place this year we could potentially sneak into the bottom half of the top 8.

It takes time for kids to adjust to the pace of AFL level. Most young players get caught in their first year or 2.
